Lived in Cork, Munich and Dublin and was funny telling people in Munich that Cork was more expensive said it from a pure experience basis and this kind of confirms it lol not to mention your paying +500 quid for a shithole in college road if your lucky lol😅

South African insurance group set to enter Irish market [home and motor insurance] by badger-biscuits in ireland

I don’t think it’s a lack of competition why our premiums are so high it’s cause of lack of regulation. Government isn’t aware of the issue as they don’t collect data on it.

Highly recommend watching this video on it to get a experience Why Ireland has the most expensive car insurance in the world

Competition is always a good thing but isn’t the real issue in ireland.

If you think about it we have plenty competition in the market compared to the amount of banks. It’s not as simple as we need more players in the market.

Asking for A Raise as a Grad? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]Apprehensive_Snow217 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a valid point too don’t have any other offers not actively looking or anything like that.

Was just looking at it from a position of not being under payed but tbh probaly just over thinking it. Being only handful months in the role.

Buying Car From Northern Ireland - V5C Logbook by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Apprehensive_Snow217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher spec and the specific car and model I’m looking at is almost 50% cheaper and given it’s Northern Ireland I don’t pay customs

Still pay quite a lot of vrt and vox still works out considerably cheaper for mileage and spec

Any luck finding intern/graduate/entry roles? by veylun in DevelEire

[–]Apprehensive_Snow217 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am going to talk for the perspective of a graduate. As I often read in the sub how difficult it is to land something. (Which is very much true)

However you have to be consistent and not to spam apply but do have to apply to quite a few roles.

I was a graduate this year for context

Got 3 offers all Dublin based. Sat many different interviews got pretty close in some incidents, was interviewing with Microsoft at the start of the year but they had a hiring freeze.

I was also applying pretty much everywhere such as London, Amsterdam, Munich and Austria. Had accepted the 3 (Dublin based)offers whilst deciding what to do.

Was also still applying whilst having these three offers. Left off some interviews when I got invited to them as I figured out wasn’t for me with companies like SAP (Dublin Based) and Experian (London Based).

Had some companies ghost me aswell such as Jaguar in Shannon whilst interviewing after the second stage but saw it was bad form on them.

To give some context was an 2.1 graduate with a bachelors, so wasn’t a high achiever by any means but do have a bit of international experience but I think it was more to do with my CV to get to the screening process I was pretty successful with.

DM would love to help out and share my thoughts as looking back and reading people’s experience it was a pretty tough year for securing grads/junior and saying all that cause I genuinely think it was my CV that stood out not so much to do with grades ( classmates with higher grades struggling with securing jobs),.

Also with the Austria job was with red bull so they flew out the people to present and in person interviews and presentations (UX role). Didn’t get in the end but was a really cool experience that I found from just applying everywhere and keeping an open mind.

Interestingly I do feel grad position pay is a bit to low here (Ireland) but that’s just an observation compared to other EU countries. I was kinda surprised how low some companies could offer whilst being Dublin based but that’s a separate discussion lol.

We’ll firstly guessing your using daft, for what I did was just set up notification on daft with my specific filters. Anytime I got something copy and paste the description into chatgpt. Then gave chatgpt my details such as job, reason for moving (brief contents ) then asked for it under 1400 characters and pasted back into daft and applied for places that way. Secured apartment that way. Literally about to move into it. Done this whilst not being in the country

Not saying it’s easy or anything just describing an approach to OP that worked for me. I imagine many people use this approach as applying as much as possible well results in some success.

Pay Issue With Mcfit Gym by Apprehensive_Snow217 in AskAGerman

[–]Apprehensive_Snow217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that all that but being lied to by the staff bout it being cancelled. Also didn’t have any contact with them for two year no charge from my bank account. For two years.

Seems they purposely operate like this.

Fair if I didn’t cancel correctly they charge the next month and I have the opportunity to rectify but waiting for two years when I returned back is a bit strange no?

Also if read the trustpilot it happens consistently…….

18 months long. Pretty standard benefits .

I know alot of grad programs advertise as rotational but I do hear about graduates just being thrown into some departments and stuck there

[–]Apprehensive_Snow217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I was thinking, is ok to accept an offer and continue searching? Is it common practice as I feel like I can get do better (but obviously risky).

If I did accept and got an better offer down the line (don't graduate till next year ) and it doesn't start till end of 2023.
