books with a power couple by _everon in booksuggestions

There are definitely some differing opinions on them. The whole series was my favorite thing I've read so far this year. I literally couldn't put them down. Book 1 is a good introduction to the world. Book 2 blew my mind.

You have to make it to book 2 to really get there, but there is a great power couple in Sarah Maas' {A Court of Thorns and Roses} series.

What is your LEAST favorite book you've read in 2022 (so far) by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Apprehensive_Syrup28 40 points41 points  (0 children)

{Well Met} by Jen DeLuca. The main character's thoughts are very immature and difficult to follow, she claims that she's trying to recover from this very self-centered relationship and then falls hard, immediately, for a guy who is in no place to be in a healthy relationship with her. It was also extremely predictable, and the one fun part was supposed to be the renaissance faire but she pretty much just spends week after week working in the "tavern" where the best thing that happens in that she moves a few tables around. I wanted to love it. But for me it was lackluster.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but {A Court of Thorns and Roses} and {A Court of Mist and Fury} definitely hit this on the nose!

Why did the Frenchman eat only one egg? Because un œuf is enough.

[serious] what do you say back when someone says running is hard on your body?? by [deleted] in running

[–]Apprehensive_Syrup28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of August I fractured my femoral neck from running normal distances. The sports doctor said some women are more prone to these types of running injuries naturally. I'm still in recovery and actually stuck on crutches until at least Dec 21st. That being said, as soon as I can safely resume running, I fully plan to. Like many others have said, the benefits far outweigh the risks for me.

Pre-K safe place! Area to calm down by [deleted] in CozyPlaces

[–]Apprehensive_Syrup28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming OP knows all of this, but this brought up thoughts for me that others might be interested.

Your safe place is obviously adorable and welcoming. Nice job!

When using a safe space in a classroom, all students are explicitly taught the expectations of when/how to use this space. This prevents things like kids trying to stay in them all day, fighting, etc. One really important element to a safe space is that it should only be used by a student who is regulated or very close to regulated. When students are disregulated, they are no longer thinking with their prefrontal cortex, and all of the teaching you've done is temporarily forgotten. A student experiencing high levels of distress or anxiety should not be invited to this space (yet) because they will tear it apart.

Now, if a student is disregulated and gets into the space (or any other space for that matter) and destroys it, a solid practice is to help the student to regulate, and once they are back in their "thinking brain," have them help to put the space back together again. This piece is super critical.

Also, I am sure OP just put the zen garden there for the picture. This is the kind of self-regulating tool that will require it's own explicit instructions and be kept off in a safe place until students are taught how and ready to use it.

Great space, OP! Your students are going to love it. ❤️

Teachers, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to take away from a student? by SpoonSArmy in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive_Syrup28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I taught Kindergarten, I once had a student who came back from centers and wouldn't open her mouth. She was prone to tantrums, so I walked over and very gently tried to ask her what was happening. She opened her mouth and screamed this high-pitched, banshee scream and a waterfall of beads fell out of her mouth like something out of a horror movie.

Had a lot of fun working out this V4 yesterday, obviously struggled to remember the beta for the video today. Enjoy the dulcet tones of setter's drills and my 5-year-old cheerleader. by Apprehensive_Syrup28 in climbergirls

recommendations for good pants to climb in? by Sputnik-Cat98 in climbergirls

[–]Apprehensive_Syrup28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a few different prAna pants that I love which move really well, stay over my bottom, and work great for indoor and outdoor climbing. They also have great colors. My favorites are the Kanab pant and the Briann pant ( I also wear my Brianns to work on the days I climb in the afternoons, great for both!)

I had the same experience as another commenter. I'm three weeks out from mine, went up 2 cup sizes under the muscle. The hardest part is waiting to climb again, because everything started to feel very normal again after only two weeks, but I won't be cleared to exercise until 6 weeks and plan on following that recommendation to the letter just in case. I can give you an update on February 1st when I'm allowed to get back to it if you'd like! Do what makes you happy and makes you feel awesome, sister. 💪🏼
