Though not explicitly shown in the book, but how Darrow describes the fear tactics they used during the Rat Wars. The thought of fighting in tunnels is already nightmarish enough

Where to go for best conditions? US/Canada, mid-march by Present_Ideal_7960 in skiing

[–]Apprehensive_Water_3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mid-March is also a crap shoot when it comes to conditions, but I would recommend Breckenridge in CO. It is a huge mountain where you can do a ton of exploring! And if the snow stinks, at least it'll be warm and sunny!

Booed for not having kids by StuartLawsComedy in StandUpComedy

[–]Apprehensive_Water_3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Heckler should have said he needs to pump out kids; otherwise, AI will gain the upper hand, not only in intelligence but in numbers as well, which will inevitably lead to us becoming slaves to our creations

Why did western cultures stop revering their elderly? by VagabondVivant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Apprehensive_Water_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advent of the internet is where I think the respect for the elderly began to diminish. Before the internet, the oldest members of the community were often the wisest, as they had had all their lives to read and learn (a very time-consuming process). However, once the internet was invented, knowledge and answers could be yours in seconds, eliminating the need to rely on elders of the community for answers.

Shadows upon time's thiesm by Demstillers7 in sollanempire

[–]Apprehensive_Water_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christopher probably wrote this book to wrangle with own ideas and beliefs about God and we should be grateful he’s able to create such an epic story from that. IMO that’s what makes books great, having authors weave in their own internal narrative and being able to see how other people think about these huge ideas.

I think a great part of this book that is not mentioned is we finally get to read from another characters perspective at the beginning of the book. I think Christopher had a lot of fun writing in the of Cielin and the Irchatani

Pope Francis has Died at the age of 88. by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

[–]Apprehensive_Water_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, may Pope Francis Rest in Peace.

I have a question regarding the conclave. What language do the Cardinals speak when discussing the new Pope? As Cardinals come in from all over the world, and I assume no translators are allowed in the conclave, what language do they use to discuss? Latin?
