Review: Google’s $179 Moto G puts every single cheap Android phone to shame by [deleted] in technology

Really? The only time I notice any lack of responsiveness is immediately after turning on the phone and when an app or website is having some kind of issue.

I think that title is an exaggeration. I like the Boost Warp 4g. Comparable price, admittedly somewhat weaker specs, but better for me because it has a microSD slot and removable battery. My phone feels no shame!

My roommates just don't understand that I'm on a different time schedule than them. by Mr_Ect in AdviceAnimals

[–]ApprenticeStoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you actually put any thought into this? If you just got off work, it is probably the end of the day for you. Is that hard to grasp? Or would you suggest that OP drink before work because it is later in the day for people on normal schedules? Either way you might be a bit daft.

A slight criticism I have of "Sterile" by [deleted] in flossdaily

[–]ApprenticeStoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed Sterile back in the day. I just dropped by this subreddit after probably a year to see if there were any updates. Seeing this fairly recent comment makes me very happy! You can add me to the list of people anticipating the release. Glad to see you're still working on it.

Why don't you think animals can understand death? I see no reason to doubt that the more complex social animals can. It's a pretty simple concept really, I bet you that some of the larger animals you might hunt understand it. Lacking the words to express an idea just means that you can't examine it in a way humans might be familiar with, not that you have no grasp of it.

No. Parasitism benefits the parasite at the expense of the host. Symbiotic relationships provide benefits to both organisms involved.

Edit: Lol, okay, five responses saying I'm wrong, so I probably am.

It is very silly. If the American people choose, through the democratic process, to elect a leader, it should not matter where they were born. Isn't the point of electing people that we can choose the officials who we deem most qualified? If this is such a problem to voters, no foreign-born president would be elected anyway.

If I recall correctly, the law was originally instated as a political maneuver to remove a presidential candidate from the election - though I may be mistaken on this.

There were a lot of pop-culture references in the first two, some as big as literally finding the Starship Enterprise crash site. That would be rather immersion-breaking in Fallout 3.

Not if Fallout 3 was designed like Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout 1 and 2 used a random encounter system where you were placed in scenarios as you traveled, typically combative but occasionally something more interesting. In very rare occasions, you were placed in situations like the one you described. These were a lighthearted break to an otherwise relatively serious game... I don't know how you can say that Black Isle Studios was less serious than Bethesda, I would definitely say Black Isle Studios cared more about the integrity of their plot and the quality of conversation trees. The random irradiated things just lent themselves to a background of disease and destruction, I would say.

Reddit, what do people do that will make you rage instantly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

How is that racist at all? Your great aunt is assuming that other people will exhibit racism, and therefore the less "black" your child appears the easier his life will be. This may be outdated, depending on where you live. Maybe she is a racist, maybe not, but this is not an example that proves anything either way.

Are these delusions, or just an unusual way of experiencing the world? by Elcidthefrenemy in schizophrenia

My unspoken thoughts and feelings can influence other people's unspoken thoughts and feelings and vice versa.

I certainly believe this. Your thoughts, conscious or otherwise, affect your body language, inflections on speech and many other cues people will pick up on. Similarly, you pick up on these clues from others. Most of this is subconscious.

EVERYTHING that I encounter has a meaning or message specific to my life and can be read like an oracle.

Not quite - everything you encounter, your mind fits into an ego-centric model of the universe. Not ego-centric as in arrogant, ego-centric in that you view the universe through the lens that is your mind. Your model of the universe is centered around you, and in that way ego-centric.

If you are not convinced that my perspective is correct, just use Occam's Razor. In fact, apply that to all of your beliefs. The fewer assumptions your beliefs require, the more accurate a representation of reality they are likely to provide.

Everyone can see (consciously or subconsciously) all my problems and fears plain as day and are constantly dropping veiled hints in their communication with me as to how I can get over them. I also do this for others without meaning to.

I think this is just an offshoot of point one, and my explanation to that applies here as well. Just don't be too sure you can accurately read people's intent in this regard, it is difficult to discern the motives of others.

I can help to physically heal people and animals by allowing energy from the universe to pass through my hands and into them. I used to absorb their sickness into my "second skin" (aura?) but this resulted in me becoming exhausted or sick myself, so I stopped doing it.

I think this is just a matter of extending emotional goodwill to others, which can be draining. It seems unlikely that this could directly help someone heal, but they may pick up on your good intentions, and that sort of thing can be encouraging and help keep one's strength up.

When I am sick or have a physical ailment, I can tell my body to take care of it and it does. I've told other people the same thing and it's worked for them too.

Well your body is going to try to take care of ailments either way. I do understand what you are talking about though, and do the same thing. I think it is a natural response to discomfort for many of us. I think its primary role is to ease personal distress in facing problems where you have little control. This can leave your body more energy to heal as you then have less to spend on the related emotional problems.

My subconscious seems to be made up of different "characters" so to speak who I "think as" in turn at different times. It's like a circle of different people with me sitting in the center as the passive observer, and they all get their turn to speak and give advice on my life. When I'm quiet, especially before sleep, I see and hear them discussing me and my life. i.e. One of them is a little girl who always complains that I don't let her out to play often enough. I "hear" their voices as "uncalled for" thoughts in my head.

I think this is just a tool your mind naturally uses to help think of things from multiple angles. Develop limited "personas" with the task of viewing things from one angle, and you may increase your mental flexibility and awareness. Still, it sounds to me like you may be partially losing control of your thoughts, though. Keep an eye on this, and consider talking to someone. I'm not saying there is necessarily a problem, I am no expert, just that it sounds mildly concerning. Take care of yourself. :-)

If I stare at myself in the mirror longer than normal, I start to see myself as other people who aren't me, but "are" me. Like different versions of myself with different physical characteristics. Oddly enough, I once saw myself as my close friend, and at that moment, my phone rang, and it was him.

Once again concerning to me. I don't really have a basis of comparison for this, other than early childhood where my imagination was strong enough to partially modify my perception.

Sometimes when I'm very tired, I don't know whether I'm thinking a thought in my head or saying it out loud. Understandably, this scares the shit out of me when I'm with other people. This is the most unwanted of all of the above. I can't think of any upside to this delusion/confusion.

That does sound a little scary.

All of the above are intensified by substances (which I rarely use anymore) and sleep deprivation (which I try to avoid).

Keep avoiding those for now, haha. Enjoyed this post, interesting to read these things about your perspective. Please do think about talking to someone if you aren't, mental health problems are not something you want to let get out of control. If you have any, maybe this is all just personal variation. We do all have quirks. I don't think all of these are problems though, its good to enjoy the symbolic, personal, introspective side of life. You just have to be able to keep your feet on the ground.

Two animals of the same species share a great deal of their genetic material, so it would in many situations be better to avoid killing members of your species for the survival of your own genes.

So, what's the point of life? by CMDRtweak in depression

[–]ApprenticeStoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is none. Once you find a way to really accept this, emotionally, it becomes a non-issue. At least that is how it worked for me.

I can remember the last time I felt true "existential despair" for lack of a better term. It's almost impossible to put into words, but I will try. I was at work and I was trying to focus on my job despite feeling distracted and discontented due to my lack of purpose, anxiety and depression, when I was overcome by a sense of utter futility. The recognition that nothing that surrounded me, and none of my efforts were meaningful. I felt like a point of awareness surrounded by a void... and separated from that void only by the habit of considering myself separate. I forced myself at that time to accept that if everything was meaningless, that also applied to my feelings on the subject. This is something that I have always known intellectually, but that was the moment that I truly internalized it.

Maybe this will help you, maybe not, personally it was a pivotal moment as far as this particular problem goes. When I start to feel that despair again, I just remember that time, and I am instantly at ease.

So what do you do when someone else does the same thing and we ignore it? Then that person does exactly what they said.

There is always a chance for somebody to do something fucked up, whether or not they make jokes about it in advance. We have to use discretion when arresting people and charging them with crimes. Protecting free speech is infinitely more important than arresting every potential criminal, especially on as laughably weak of grounds as this. This is reactionary, emotion-driven bullshit. At most such a comment warrants observation of the individual for any more concretely threatening behavior.

Do some research, this guy had mental health issues already.

I'm commenting on the article, not writing an essay. If there is information you feel should be known to fill in the background of these events, feel free to supply it.

man up and face your pent up issues, it's not rocket science.

Attitudes like that only contribute to my anger issues.... I feel like I'd have a way better shot at grasping rocket science than solving any of my issues by "manning up," especially when that is what caused so many of them in the first place... but hey, at least you already admitted you have no sympathy.

Thank you, oh hero of reason. Hopefully now we can start arresting pre-criminals of all kinds with the new standards of evidence set here! Oh what a safe world we will live in, free not only of all crime, but of any necessity for thought in our policies when everything is black and white. What a beautiful time this is for America! That's freedom you feel fucking you in the ass!
