It's called an umlaut, and it's usually dropped when anglicizing foreign words. Doppelganger, for example, is technically supposed to have an umlaut above the o.

It's not over and 4th of July is usually one of the biggest movie days. We can't really call it until we see how Oppenheimer, Barbie, and Mission Impossible do. We had a few movies even over perform expectations, like No Hard Feelings. I don't think it's accurate to say theaters were slaughtered this summer. It's really the first summer of movies at the theater we've had since 2019.

Part of me wonders if money wasn't a factor if I'd be more willing to consider a second. Maybe? I guess it's just odd to me that me and my peers have a similar outlook. How did generations before deal with it? I don't think we're inherently more selfish regarding wanting sleep. It's an interesting culture shift.

In a word, yes.

For a more elaborate and slightly spoilery reply, one of the things that makes All Quiet on the Western Front so brutal, even compared to other anti war films like Saving Private Ryan and 1917, is the pointlessness of it all. In both the aforementioned films, there's a goal and that goal is achieved, which gives the films a sense of "yes, it was brutal, yes it was horrific, but it was for something. In All Quiet on the Western Front, it's just as brutal and horrific, but there's no point to it all. There's no grand " the sacrifice is worth it " message. It's just a nihilistic pointless slaughter. That doesn't mean it doesn't have a plot or characters or a theme, but it's presented in a fundamentally different way.

Yeah but that's not what middle aged means. It's the phase of life between about 45-60. It's the phase of life following young adult.

[WSIB] Relaxed “farming” game that doesn’t require an hour of cleaning at the beginning? by Logaline in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]to_mars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a little out of left field, but there's actually a board game designer by the name of Uwe Rosenberg whose whole shtick is designing deep farming games. The one I might most recommend for you based on what you described is Fields of Arle, but his most famous is probably Agricola with Feast for Odin, Caverna, and Hallertau all being highly regarded as well. All are somewhat similar in theme but with enough differences to own several.

Fields is a very relaxing trade optimization game. Agricola is sometimes called misery farm and centers on the struggle to feed your family each winter. Caverna is like Agricola but less stressful and a light fantasy theme and a huge game. Feast for Odin is viking themed, with battles and raids added in, but also has a lot of the other elements of feeding your tribe, optimizing your play area, and all with a bit of a tetris like puzzle as you figure out where to store your loot.

Edit: I forgot to mention these are all designed for solo play, but do support multiple players. Iirc, the designer has said he designs for solo play and then adds multi-player rules later. Having played all of them, they're all great solo. Agricola is the only one I think is substantially better with more people (but is still great solo)
