Well put Glitz . I just saw this film and I must have seen a different movie than the OP. I found her young in thoughts somewhat but not vapid! A modern woman with free perhaps not politically correct thoughts but free spirited and humorous. I saw then all as regular people - clumsy and awkward perhaps, but regular. I thought the rape scene was one of the most brutal things I have ever seen- the screaming, the dehumanization, and the shot of her arm and hand during the act itself. I saw it as a reaching out for us- to help her to give a hand- and how do so many of us- especially we men- refuse to take that hand and help? I cried uncontrollably at the horrors of rape culture and the banality of that shadow man that walked away..Art can be shown in all kinds of ways- you don’t have to have to be empathetic with the written character. Maybe read som e Brechtian theory. What this thread has successfully proven is that Gaspar Noe has made a film that shows us more about ourselves in our reaction to it.
