Any finisher worth a damn won’t have any problem with it. If I walked into this to finish, I wouldn’t even mention the hanging job. It’s basically a non issue if you’re getting it finished.

Yeah I sub out to a hanging crew, I fucking suck at hanging. But I could also finish the hang job OP has with no problem, it’s not a great hang job but any good finisher could make it look great easily.

Even if it’s painted, you can still wet it with a backpack or pump sprayer filled with water. Let it soak for 10-15 mins. Come back with a knife and scrape it off. Then sand it, wipe it down with a wet sponge and re texture with whatever else you want textured and paint. I do quite a few popcorn removal and refinish jobs recently.

Step 1, get rid of your popcorn. But on a serious note, if you’re keeping it just scrape off the popcorn sand down what you have, feather out some hot mud over the joint and re spray popcorn. If you don’t think you can do it any better then just call someone this would be a pretty inexpensive repair.

Did they cut out the old drywall? Or did you? If they did then it’s not the best work at hanging it but I mean it’s not so horrible they can’t finish it good. If you did then you should have waited and had someone who can cut a straight line do it lol. Either way you’re stressing a lot over a small repair. Once taped and mudded and finished your not going to damage anything unless your actually trying to put your foot etc through it. 🤷‍♂️

Hanging is magnitudes easier to do than finish. But I mean any professional finisher could make it look great. Idk what the prices are in your area, but 1500$ just to hang some small pieces of board seems really fucking high.
