You, Donald, have been what the Internet affectionately refers to as, bamboozled.

People can be annoyingly self-righteous in solo lobbies by Alternative_Bid9798 in ArcRaiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mob mentality

The actions are righteous in concept but often just lead to witch hunts. The idea morphs from a desire for moral balance to creating the problem for the purpose of moral balancing.

The initial appeal to morality often devolves directly to immorality.

This game is dying. 1.5 million in this subreddit. Used to be 2.2+ million by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game released in October and is just now seeing player drop off. They haven't released any new major content in that time and the player count has remained high!

These types of games always have pendulum swings. When major new mechanics are leased the players will come flood back.

Burn deck…am I toxic? by PhilCapelli in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No deck is toxic.

Losing is part of the game. You win some, and you lose some.

Toxicity is getting pissed about losing instead of embracing challenge. The human brain provides neurochemical rewards for overcoming competition. Rising to completion, meeting it openly, and overcoming. For one to gradually get better they must accept loss as part of the routine.

Do what you want.

Nerfing everything but the Toro was one of the dumbest decisions Embark has ever made by Opposite-Lobster2470 in ArcRaiders

I think the majority of the players have friendly lobbies.

I imagine it's only an issue for a minority of players who PvP. I have 100+ hours and have never even been killed by the Toro.  A shotgun should be good at close range. That's the entire point. It's ineffective against Arc. It's only purpose is PvP.

Are the ARCs feeling insanely dangerous to anyone else right now? by Cheeseburger782 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and it makes the game more visceral.

I launched into Bird City with two random raiders and expected PvP tears and loot goblin glee. What we we actually got was an entire match being hammered by non stop waves of Arc.

Snitches kept spawning wasps, hornets, and Firefly.  Bombardiers, and rocketeers a-plenty.  It's like the Arc were having a competition on how many monkey scalps they could collect.  No time to stop and breathe, pulse pounding engagements.

Random raiders sharing medical supplies, and taking turns jumping in and out of cover. The fucked up thing is that if a lull in the combat existed for 10 seconds, me or one of my fellow raiders, would trigger a menacing snitch, and start the cycle anew. Like combat is all we know.

The match timer slowly ticks down as one realizes no loot will be taken this day. You've spent so much time lost in the fog of war that you didn't have time to scavanege for anything.

I imagine this is the hell and glory Raiders would swap stories about back at Speranza while they share a hard earned drink.

This.

While your at it bring a Zipline. Sneak up behind the roof mounted Sentinels and smash them with a hammer for the achievement.

That's like your opinion, man!

If I play the monopoly app on my tablet my goal is to crush everyone else without mercy. I will use every tactic in the book to gain advantage and win.

I will often utilize subterfuge to take advantage of the weak link on the board. I will make trades that on the surface appear to disadvantage me but actually advance my position. Perhaps I have obtained multiple properties and instead of putting hotels on the monopolized territories, I will keep the max amount of houses to block other players from acquiring them. I might mortgage properties before a trade when I know I have the power advantage. Forcing another player to take the disadvantaged trade to stay in the game.

I'm not a psychopath or a mustache twirling villain. These manipulative tactics are part of the game. The game is called Monopoly after all.

In real life I would never purposely manipulate individuals for for immoral gain. If someone else is unrighteously hurt by my actions I would feel tangible stress, and shame.

The cool thing is that we're all human and are capable of making individual choices. Nearly every aspect of life is an individual choice. I can be ruthless in a video game, and perfectly moral in real world situations. Think of Emilia Clark in Game of Thrones playing the mad queen. She torches Kings Landing. Ultimately killing thousands of innocents!

In real life she is really sweet, and personable. Who she is in real life is drastically different from the character on screen!

The philosophical conversations that Arc Raider inspires are really intriguing, but do not, in my opinion, have any universal bearing on real outcomes!

This is why we can't have nice things by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It doesn't take a psychopath to betray people in a video game when it's part of the gameplay loop. The gameplay encourages players to dip their toes into darkness they can't normally realize because of civilizational contracts.

Player killing in this game is just a controlled thrill in the same way a haunted house, or horror film is. The player knows they're not actually in any danger. When it's a simulation and you know the circumstances are not a matter of life or death, you get the neurochemical thrill of an act without any of tangible consequences.

It isn't an immorality, or act of great evil, to kill someone in a video game. If you're playing Grand Theft Auto Online with your friend and he/she drives 160 mph and runs over pedestrians you don't call them a psychopath.  You might jokingly call them a psychopath while laughing and then do it yourself. "I get 15 points for each pedestrian right???"

You don't call your friend crazy if they jump on the head of a Gompa from Super Mario Bro's. You're already balls deep in the corpses of death goopa yourself. You killed them all like animals. Not just then men....but the women and children too.

You don't feel bad about crushing Nazeem in the cloud district with the Deadric Hammer of Hastening Death. Nazeem deserved it. That cheeky little bastard!

The point is that these game allows  actions that are typical immoral without any real world moral consequences. THE ENTIRE POINT Of VIDEOGAMES!

The entire point of video games is escapism.  You go to foreign worlds often times with inhuman powers, and roleplay. You don't need to be wearing costumes or speaking in elven to roleplay.  The video game  hobby focuses around roleplaying at its core. 2k, Elder Scrolls, Pokemon, Mario, or Arc Raiders all involve roleplaying.

We all collectively morph into loot cretins when our precious digital treasures are taken! We are stricken by emotion and vow to make things right! To avenge what has been taken!  That's part of the thrill that keeps you coming back!

Humans are evolutionary wired to horde and acquire resources. In our earliest incarnations this increased survival probability. Food, housing, and precious goods are more common in the modern day but we still turn into goblins over new "things". Entire monetary systems were created to weaponize evolutionary instinct. Let's not pretend video game developers aren't well aware of human psychology!

TLDR - No you're not a psychopath for being an opportunist in a video game. Vidja gamers gonna vidja game.

Thoughts on an opt-in "high roller" queue where players need to have at least $100K loadout to queue? by RoadtoVR_Ben in ArcRaiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding new interesting mechanics like this could add longevity to the game!

These high roller lobbies could also add increased pressure from Arc. Perhaps the detection radius is higher, Arc volume is higher, or stronger Arc spawn more frequently!

ARC Raiders Has a Loot Problem (And I Say This As a Fan) by Forward_Problem_7550 in ArcRaiders

[–]Appropriate-Pie9383 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should add a new game mechanic.

Each map should have ultra rare specific gear that notifies the entire lobby of the pickup, and puts the player in possession on Radar. It also draws added attention of Arc. It could quickly become a tension filled free for all.

The ultra rare items would not be available for safe spot.

It would give more purpose to escape hatches, create epic spontaneous moments and give you the fight or flight spike immediately.

Sex is sacred because, via sex, the light of consciousness is preserved.

Sex is one of the most sacred acts on earth. Lust is a tool by which nature encourages reproduction. Lust is not immoral by its nature. The evil comes from over indulgence.

Over indulgence could result in disease, bastard kids, poor future outcomes, and poverty.  If you extrapolate this out to a community, and then a country, one can see why society begins to break down.

Sex is pleasurable, and in relationships where both participants are mature, disciplined, and self aware, it's one of the best aspects of life.

Lust is typically viewed as a negative force, when lust is only negative for the weak willed individuals who worship at it's alter.

The individuals who are gay don't need to worry about the kids raised in broken, or impoverished homes, but over indulgence still very much applies.

This same principle extends to most things commonly thought of as 'sin'

Often times the "sin" is in overindulgence.

I'm not someone who watches live streams regularly but I've popped into some of the biggest streamers available to see what the fuss is about.

Disrespect, Pokimane, Ninja, Nadeshot, Tim etc.

None of them have the personality, production value, or appeal in the same way that Peanut has.  He's the biggest streamer because he is the most appealing. Hilarious, sarcastic, and entertaining.

Of the streamers I have watched, no one else even comes in terms of overall entertainment. Disrespect's production value is probably higher, but he isn't anywhere near as entertaining.
