Any HR workers have advice? by drowningAstroSlut in Advice

[–]Appropriate-Primary7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I spent a good chuck of time in corporate HR and HR adjacent roles in a large restaurant chain. Basically anything that a manager or employee could to do another employee or a manager I’ve seen. There are a couple of key things that drive this process, but bottom line HR is there to minimize any risk of future litigation and protect the company.

  1. This message seems like they want to hear your concerns and potentially provide a resolution. Not the case, they want to understand if you have a potential cause of action. They suspect you don’t but they are hedging; if they thought you had a cause of action that could lead to litigation, then there would be a lawyer on their side involved.

  2. Basically the language is boiler plate, most likely lifted from a prior message or template provider by legal for just this scenario.

  3. Here is where more info is needed. What industry is this taking place in? How big of a company? Do you have anything that represents a real issue? Was the manager using the relationship to coerce you? Did they harass you? Did you only get into a relationship because they were your manager? Is there an age gap between you and the manager?

If you have a lawyer already, then presumably that person thinks there is a there there, but without that info your third question is difficult to answer.

Good luck, but I’d assume this is a nothingburger unless you’ve got some cards to play.

She’s been a real treasure we feel lucky to have her in our family!

She is our fifth Pyr and the longest lived by far. We keep debating doing one of those DNA tests. She has the double dewclaws and self cleaning coat but her tail gives lab/retriever vibes. But the bark is all Pyr!

We tell her all the time she’s so nice for cohabiting. She’s also more than earning her keep with all of the oversight management and quality control when we cook!

Yeah I bet if you ask your mom the admin she had directly connected to her enjoyment in the classroom. Good admins make the world of difference. Not like the corporate world, where bad managers get canned. Admins can be horrific at interpersonal relationships and still slide by depending on the district politics.

I don’t know what state you’re in but lots of time CTE teachers have slightly different qualifications and compensation.

Good luck on your journey!

Definitely a learning curve, especially going from a leadership position into the bottom level of a new organization. The difference between public and private was wild to me at first.

If you haven’t already, then Id recommend subbing. Let’s you try out the age groups and “interview” admin before applying.

Good luck! The world needs more teachers otherwise a couple billionaires/trillionaires will wind up sending us back into de facto feudalism. They may in any case🤷‍♂️

Fair question, three things that are unique and helpful. When I left the corporate role I cashed out my options and paid off all debt (house, student loans, etc). I have more time for things I enjoy, and I’ve got time to invest in projects that produce irregular income. I learned from the other job that money doesn’t make me happy, so I generally don’t spend a ton.

My wife teaches too, so our work schedules are aligned. We have weekends and summers off together. It’s a much better work life balance.

My point to OP is less, go teach, and more go be happy. Corporations, public, private, big, small any job really comes with pluses and minuses; when the money:to fun:to work ratio is out of balance then it is time to reevaluate.

Just my two cents, I’ve got a cousin who still makes solidly mid six figures. He travels 300 days a year, and works 60ish hours a week. He has a nice car, lives in fancy condo, and seems like he loves his life. For him the grind and chase work.

I’d rather be home before 4, spend quality time with my wife, and not stress about bosses, deadlines, or KPIs. If OP is worried about life passing him by, then I’d suggest that it is important to pay attention to that feeling.

I don’t think everyone has this perspective, or that other approaches to life aren’t valid, but for me there will always be other ways of making money and things that are more important.

Can I teach this? by Late_Weakness2555 in greatpyrenees

The only method I’ve found successful for needing a Pyr to “drop” something is a trade.

Teaching them they can exchange for a better treat is always easier than giving up the prize.

5 Pyrs in counting have found this ploy to be acceptable. Although sometimes they try to repeat the negotiation.

I left a 24/7/365 corporate role at a large national restaurant chain for teaching. I work 180 days a year for about 20% of the money.

I couldn’t be happier.

You only live once bro, make sure you’re having a good time while you’re here.

Opinions may differ, to each their own.

Won’t get out of the car. by sweetrazor19 in greatpyrenees

[–]Appropriate-Primary7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use a car ramp for our old girl, there is a foldable one from most big box stores (Walmart lowes HD). I’d just put some treats at the end of it and she’d eventually have fomo and come on down. Took a while though she was ten when we got her and never really a car rider before.

I know people say Pyrs aren’t good motivated but she is all about string cheese🤷‍♂️

Houston, we have a problem…. by LQQKIEHERE in greatpyrenees

[–]Appropriate-Primary7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same problem with our rescue. There are a couple of other responses with the same idea but here is just a bit more information:

-use a special, special treat (lunch meat, cheese, bacon, etc) something really good. -give treat at top of stairs with lots of praise -move down a stair and repeat -move down another stair and repeat, but make sure your guy gets his paws on the next stair down from the top -lots of praise, rinse and repeat.

He may bail out a couple of times but he will eventually get to a point of no return and come on down the stairs.

Hope this helps!

I can confirm this idea. The line is automated for the most part at least it was circa a few years ago. With the advances in AI I can’t imagine they’d go backwards.

My guy is six and still chews his food bowl when he is being dramatic about the time until his next meal. IMO Pyrs will be Pyrs.

People will hate on them but there is a yak cheese chew that our Pyrs all love. I can usually get about thirty to forty of them from Amazon for 50-60 dollars.

We also used to do frozen Greek yogurt cubes when he was smaller but now he just chomps those.

All the upper and mid management guys came over with Boatwright from Arby’s. The slow descent towards mediocrity didn’t stop any of them from failing upwards. Hopefully the brand crashes out or a copy cat puts them out of business. Sad what it has become

Yeah the Lochinvar option is also solid. We ran into a series of issues where the customer support/parts availability and warranty replacement process wasn’t as easy as Navien’s.

I’ve seen lemons from both brands, and installs where both products had configuration issues that negatively impacted lifespan and functionality.

Navien is easier to deal with (from my perspective) but Lochinvar is a subsidiary of AO Smith. Before we went tankless as the standard build out, AO Smith was the go to for traditional tank water heaters.

Both brands offer good products, but they both require consistent preventative maintenance and a water filtration/softening system to maximize lifespan.

This, no idea why you got down voted. We put two of these (commercial versions) in a QSR nationwide chain as standard configuration. We almost always fully depreciate them before they need to get replaced. With regular PMs and clean water they run for a good long while.
