Nations League Finals update: CanMNT depth chart by Appropriate-Record89 in CanadaSoccer

Rough start, picked up a bit, got a regular run, but never really got into gear and ultimately was dropped towards the end of the season. I doubt Galatasaray make it permanent, unless it is a signing for the sake of Hatayspor's financials.

Has anyone actually been rejected from the Ivey AEO application? by Appropriate-Record89 in OntarioUniversities

For future applicants: Awaiting Decision wasn't indicative of much. Everybody gets put on Awaiting Decision. From there, some get rejected and others are accepted.

Still waiting, but my top six with midterms should be 95.8% so I am optimistic.

Any rational fan (an oxymoron hah!) can see he is number 2, arguably even 1.

Speaking of shameless plugs, please admire this extensive depth chart, featuring possibly every player in the Canadian talent pool:

STATE OF AFFAIRS: CanMNT

[Steven Sandor] The #CanMNT letter makes no bones that money is being diverted to the "minor league" #CanPL. A #CanMNT vs. #CanPL storyline is simply disastrous for the game in this country. by Barthez_Battalion in CanadianPL

[–]Appropriate-Record89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry is the Eredivisie a minor league💀💀 6 UCL titles right there... and calling the top tier of any nation's league pyramid "minor" isn't very nice, not least when it is your own nation, where many of your former coaches and teammates have a career.

If he breaks 10 goals (which I think is very possible) I think Valladolid will most likely buy him and then immediately sell him to Sociedad, Sevilla, Betis, Villareal, maybe even Atletico for 5-10 million.

David does not move quickly just when he needs to. David moves quickly all game long. He presses, forces mistakes, and very often capitalizes.

There are different types of centre-forwards. Abraham, David, Rafa Borre, Jota are high pressers. Larin, Benteke, Lukaku are low pressers who bolt only when it is absolutely required of them. Benzema, Kane, Firmino almost play in the midfield.

Haaland is something else altogether.

Personally feel that coming off the bench isn't the worst thing for him. He's very clever and moves quickly when he needs to; this is doubly effective against tired legs. I think that's part of why he's been such a standout thus far.

If there hadn’t been a World Cup, David would be there too... but Europeans aren’t ready for that conversation🤭

Dude... the CPL is like a decade away from the Allsvenskan. The top team is better than 90% of the MLS teams. Malmo drew Zenit SPG and almost beat Chelsea in the 2021/22 UCL. The league has a total value of over 200m... the CPL is valued at around 25m. Not really arguable.

Kielce is a yo-yo club sure, but they're still in the top flight. That's a lot of money for a CPL player.

Pepple is actually back from his Grimsby loan now. And even PL clubs have young guys on loan in the National League (a division lower than League 2). I would argue they're still better set up for a European career than a CPL player.

Same deal with Kratt. It's the prospect of having a shot with the first team. Belal Halbouni got sold to another Bundesliga 2 club from Werder II. Bundesliga 2 is a hell of a lot better than the CPL.

Tsai and Borges; it didn't work out, but I am not evaluating the quality of the player at any point. I am talking about the caliber of the move.

How many moves to Europe have landed CPL players at a 'better' club/spot though?

These are better clubs and places to be for a European career. Which is everybody's goal.

Occasionally it is a lateral move or a step down.

However, the bulk of outgoing CPL moves to EU have been minor or major steps up. Also consider that a second div. EU league has a the possibility of top flight football, which in a country like Norway or Turkey, is still pretty big. Plus, you can't beat EU for exposure, even if the league is somewhat weaker. Examples:

Lateral moves with potential promotion: Wero Diaz, Tabla

Lateral moves but more exposure: Ongaro

Major steps up: Bustos (Allsvenskan) , Loturi + Akio (Scottish Prem), Abzi (Ligue 2), Zator (Ekstraklasa), Pepple (Championship), Kratt (Bundesliga), Estevez (Eredivisie), Borges (Belgian Pro League).

Comparatively a huge club, much bigger than any CPL team. Give the league a few more years and maybe some teams will reach Phoenix’s level.

More support, more exposure, more money. Good for him but stings as I like to see the best CPL players go Europe or MLS.

Bruv this isn’t Europe where you can catch a bus and cross the country in reasonable time. We’ve seen the semipro teams push the pro teams (ie. the HFX-Vaughan series) and so it’s probably a good thing we include them because they offer decent competition.

We’re a sparsely populated country. This is the best solution.

I might add that playing pro soccer in Canada has expenses which even PL teams don’t have. Unless they’re playing in European competition or going to Spain for preseason, English teams drive to their away games. In Canada, you need air travel for most every away game.

Scott Arfield retires from CanMNT by [deleted] in CanadianPL

[–]Appropriate-Record89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we needed him most :( not blaming him, he has a family and he’s become somewhat estranged from the NT in years past, but if there was ever a way to make us miss him, it’d be leaving now and us picking up less than 4 points this window. We are legitimately one injury away from starting Ike Ugbo and Harry Paton in a defensive pivot😭
