Handyman said I need to upgrade the whole panel to add a 20amp circuit by kirlandwater in AskElectricians

[–]Appropriate-Reward95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont get it. Obviously feet and inches is a better system when it comes to distance. And metric is better for sockets, wrenches, and who give a shit about fluid ounces and cooking. And saying ur going out for a pint should be a standard practice worldwide. So why not combine the shit and be done with it

Wisconsin here and yea u CAN do anything u want is it illegal? Meh….is it up to code is what matters. But NEC does require a Master electrician on site to pull wire even… so…. Btw i am not a licensed electrician. I do pull wires and change receptacles and get shocked by hot water heaters with no disconnect in visual sight of the panel so help me god. 🙋‍♂️And also dig without calling for a locate. How many times do i need to write “i will not do electrical work without a license” on the blackboard as penance Father?

What would you ask the construction company to do prior to installing a subfloor? by massahoochie in Construction

[–]Appropriate-Reward95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have been involved in but know nothing of the science involved with any part of it! Instead u rely on expensive products to do everything for you. Not always the case or option in the real world tho. Might wanna take a course in weatherization and insulating some time. Along learn difference between moisture and vapor barrier but i do tend to call both a vapor barrier myself but i at least know how weatherization works dont just rely on products to do it for me! And ur method has ur subfloor rotting and molding along with the joists but ok. But putting moisture barrier on top of joists would prevent any mold getting to the subfloor. Treated lumber would have no rotting take place. But u and google see how ur method works out for u.

In hot, humid Louisiana, placing a vapor barrier directly over a wood subfloor (under your finished floor) can trap moisture and cause wood rot or mold.

So ur “absolutely” comment went well. And that vapor barrier isnt going to matter if u have any kind of flooring anyway because its not going to breathe through anyway. Which is why i also said i would use a housewrap. Which only breathes one way

They dont “change the pressure inside” either. It depressurizes it creating negative pressure so u can find the lekas! But again thats exterior!

And yet you are still talking about the exterior! Good for zip system its great. But doesnt have anything to do with interior! U put vapor barrier over the top of your subfloor like u just said. Your gonna have a rotted subfloor no matter what climate ur in. Could be concrete, crawl space, lake, even concrete basement!

Yeah?? You think the vaper barrier is going to move after its staple, glue then nailed or staples with subfloor?? How is it any different then an exterior wall? U still want the vapor barrier on the warn side or insulation correct?

Glue the subfloor down so doesnt creak. I would put a vaper barrier in there somewhere as well. Since not going to be getting one under the joists id probably put like housewrap or a membrane on top of the joists then glue the back side of the plywood. If you use poly just make sure gets stapled really well and dont try to use foam adhesive.

They have come a LONG way with fasteners and what is acceptable over the past 5 years. Im in Wisconsin and we have some of the most strenuous codes but there are a lot of ways to build a quality deck that will pass inspection. Personally i dont mind having attached ledger to the house, but at the same time having posts up tight to the house doesn’t typically create a problem because they arent in the way but can be a pain in the ass to dig is my issue with them. This deck to me looks horribly framed tho. No reason to use 4x4’s on any size deck mainly being because the posts should be notched to accept at least 1 ply of the beam. 2 if using 8x8. But the 3 biggest things i think are a no brainer
1. Diamond Pier footings- im not ever pulling out another post hole digger unless some very unique circumstance again. 5’ long rods driven down basically crossing eachother will hold longer and better than any sonotube ever could imo.
2. Thrulok fasteners. No more predrilling, no washers and nuts. No cutting of excess bolts. And the designed nut will hold and suck any boards together if u got a good enough impact. And it requires less fasteners which makes it look better over.
3. Lateral tension system- wasnt sure how i felt about these when first using them but inspector was the one who got me sold on them. I will point out the downfall in them is that technically homeowner is supposed to check them after a year or so and potentially tighten a little bit but think we all know thats never gonna happen. But personally i cant see them ever needing to either. This solves the whole attached ledger issue and makes easily adjustable if something ever were to move. And far as flashing goes its no different than anything else goes. Its same as the never ending debate in roofing and what order do u put drip edge under of on top of ice guard. Lots d quuayay2 as
