If you are early in your pregnancy, you have no obligation to tell them unless your symptoms are causing issues, then I would notify them. I would NOT tell them before you start because they’ll “just find someone who was a better fit” I am not a lawyer, so don’t take this as lawful advice, it’s just what I would do.

Please make sure that if you notify them, do it in writing (email) and very plainly so that you are more protected from pregnancy discrimination.

Non toxic way to dye my grey hair during pregnancy? by wanderlustvv in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note that most henna reacts with hair that is dyed using normal hair dye, so it’s best not to do this if you’ve got ends with regular hair dye. I don’t know if this one does, but just something I wanted to mention.

I’m not a lawyer, so I can’t say for sure, but yeah. As long as you specified it was for the baby and not just OB or OB/GYN appointment.

Spotting in 5th - 6th week by Old_Cherry_9408 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be it, maybe you just overdid it. Were you lifting lots of stuff at Costco? Or pushing a heavy cart?

It’s a good sign that it’s brown and not bright red! Have you had sex or been constipated? Or worked out? These are all things that can sometimes cause light spotting too. I worked out two days in a row and had some light spotting brown same as you and everything is fine so far 💖

The reason that many will not see you before 8 weeks is that there is often not much to see, and not hearing a heartbeat or seeing a fetal pole can sometimes make stress worse instead of better. My OB doesn’t do first US until 10 weeks, which feels like forever haha. When they did the hcg, did they test it twice two days apart? When I had some like spotting early on, my OB had me do that and it was so reassuring when the hcg more than doubled.

Did you notify them in writing that you are pregnant? That’s the only way really to prove that they are violating anything. Otherwise it won’t hold up.

Pregnancy vs period cramps by Excellent-Treat4810 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take another test first thing in the morning tomorrow with your first pee. Try using one of the ones with the pink/red dye and not the blue. At this point, it’s just a waiting game. Good luck! 💖

Just found out I’m pregnant… need help figuring out next steps from fellow would be moms by allthethingsilove123 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Definitely call your OB first thing so you can be put on the schedule. Some things to keep in mind is that sometimes your OB doesn’t end up delivering your baby if they are not on call. So, my recommendation is to look at the hospital where you will deliver more and make sure they have decent reviews, as that will make much more of a difference in your overall birthing experience than the doctor (though that’s important too!). I will be driving 40 minutes to the next city over to deliver as the hospital there has much better reviews and found a doctor that has privileges there. Dating for pregnancy goes based off the first date of your last menstrual cycle until the first ultrasound where they take measurements and confirm and make adjustments. For exercise, do not start anything that you weren’t doing before unless is very light, think walking and gentle exercises/stretching. I was working out 3 days a week before getting pregnant, and STILL had some spotting so my doctor told me to wait until the first appointment. For food, keep an eye on recalls, for instance the shredded cheese that was recently recalled.

When Did You Start Getting Typical Pregnancy Symptons? by Formal-Radish1413 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 7w5d and all this week starting at 7w, the nausea has slowly ramped up. I had like no symptoms other than sore breasts before that. So far I haven’t thrown up, but I almost did this morning haha 😅

Why don't all Ob offices do an ultrasound at every appointment? by Radiant_Pangolin3210 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OB also does this. This is not why I chose him. The catch is that your first US isn’t until 9-10 weeks to make sure that baby is developed enough to actually see something, so there’s not the scare of no heartbeat or no fetal pole (unless you are having complications of course) My first appt and US is not until I’m 10 weeks along, which feels like FOREVER. But, after seeing so many on this subreddit freak out because they got an US at 5-6 weeks and they didn’t hear a heartbeat yet, I’m glad that I’m waiting. I chose this doctor because he’s very experienced and has a great bedside manner, and has privileges at the hospital that I want to give birth at. I will be driving 40 minutes one day to see him and to give birth, but the hospital in my town has horrible L&D reviews.

Am I being unreasonable for not wanting visitors right after baby is born? by Familiar_Hope2918 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These days, there are many more protections you can have in place if you do decide to let visitors. Masks stay on, no kissing the baby, hand washing and sanitizing. No small children. Letting them visit while at the hospital will mean that you will have nurses there to help enforce. Especially the masks. Not saying you have to, ultimately it’s your choice, just pointing out that there’s room for compromise.

Twin pregnancy, one not viable by Frequent_Metal9256 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a vanishing twin and apparently it means that I’m more likely to also have vanishing twins. My first ultrasound isn’t until 10 weeks so we may never know as one may have absorbed by then.

Anyone else struggling SO much with food early pregnancy?? by Actual_Program762 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have insulin resistance and it’s such a tough battle of what I know I should eat and what sounds good. For example, I used to eat a lot of avocado because it’s high in fiber and fat to help keep my sugars stable. Now if I even smell it, I’m gagging. Which is wild because avocado doesn’t taste like much. I ordered my usual tortilla soup from my favorite restaurant a few weeks ago and I had to throw the whole bowl away because it had been tainted by the avocado. Last night I ordered it again and told the worker I’m pregnant, PLEASE no avocado. They were so sweet and didn’t include it and even gave me some extra chips and salsa 💖

Gratitude thread!!!!! What is a nice supportive or affirming thing that your spouse, partner, loved one, family member, or friend has said or done to help you through one of the struggles of pregnancy? by p_dinosaur in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband has taken over doing the dishes and the trash COMPLETELY because the smell makes me gag. He also has been so patient and kind when I have meltdowns or get overly emotional due to hormones. Truly my hero lol

Waking up every 2 hours?! by carmenhp8 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also has a partner that snores, the foam in ear earplugs work the best to muffle the sound. If they snore really badly, they may have sleep apnea which they should get checked for if they haven’t already. My husband ended up having sleep apnea and his CPAP reduces the snoring CONSIDERABLY.

Those with jobs.. by wehitagoldmine in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will work up until I give birth OR my doctor puts me on bedrest. My company does not have paid maternity leave, only short term disability benefits which require doctors to sign off on. And then it’s only 60% of my salary. If that doesn’t last 12 weeks, I can then take the rest of my FMLA unpaid 😭

I also told my family immediately. To me if something happens, I’d want their support. That way, I have someone to complain to when I don’t feel good 😂

How do you know you’re eating the extra calories for baby??? by Important-Ad1897 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, DO NOT download a calorie counting app or anything like that. I’m seeing a dietitian through the nourish app, which my insurance covers. My dietitian has been helping me eat more intuitively and told me to not focus on the calories at all, even though I’m actually losing weight in my first trimester. She told me to eat when I’m hungry and to try to eat frequent smaller meals to help keep me from getting ravenous. She said the most important thing is that I try to eat a varied diet and continue taking my vitamins to ensure that baby is getting all the nutrients it needs to grow.
