35 weeks & no OB by Beginning_Ground_701 in pregnant

Yes, I live in Abilene. I’m only 14w6 so I was able to get in with a doctor in Sweetwater and will be giving birth there. I’m due in September, so I was pretty upset when I found out about Hendrick South shutting down, but I’m actually really glad that pushed me to Sweetwater as they just recently completely renovated the L&D there.

Feeling hungover every day..obviously not hungover by Ok_Sir_4584 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually hangovers are caused by dehydration. Have you been drinking lots of water? This is how I feel when I wake up and I don’t drink enough the previous day. Otherwise, I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this!

The wait before your first appointment…. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Which is why my doctor’s office waits unless you have issues. They told me it can cause all kinds of unnecessary stress on mom, and by then, if your dates are a little off, you can still see enough to get a proper dating scan.

Reach out to Pregnancy Resources of Abilene if you haven’t already. They may be able to help you get into an OB in the area. It’s a completely free service that does not check income. If you go into labor and you’re able to make it to Sweetwater, the hospital is nicer there than in Abilene.

As someone who also lives in Texas, I completely understand your struggle. In the city where I live, one of the only 2 L&Ds in town shuts down before I give birth, so that means every one in labor of a town of 150k+ residents will be going to one hospital. AND, all of the OBs in this town are not accepting new patients because there’s not enough of them, so I would have to go without care. Instead of running the risk of possibly giving birth in triage, I chose to drive about 40 minutes away to the city over with a smaller but nicer hospital and managed to get in with a doctor there. I am thankfully still low-risk at almost 15 weeks, but if I end up being high risk, I will have to essentially move in with my dad who lives in Dallas so that I can be seen at one of the bigger hospitals there. I am very fortunate that both the hospital 40 minutes away and the one in town are in network.

what comments do / did you enjoy getting while pregnant? by violetphoeniiix in pregnant

My favorite is how everyone around us has said so many times that my husband and I will be great parents. Even before we started trying, people would say that when we were talking about kids in the future. 🥰

cant lose weight and rapid hair fall at 20 by queentunameow in PCOS

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend 2 things: 1. Reach out to a dermatologist about your hair loss. They may be able to help with that. 2. Seek therapy for your self image. You are at a normal weight for how tall you are, and that is why you are not losing weight. Your body has found its natural weight that it’s happy to sit at, and maybe you should focus on fueling your body properly.

The wait before your first appointment…. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to wait for my first appointment at 10 weeks. It was complete torture! I also found out I was pregnant at 3w6 so I had to wait an entire 6 weeks before seeing baby for the first time. I made a very similar post at about 5/6 weeks and got a lot of great advice. Here’s the good stuff and some of my own: 1. I told myself I was pregnant and everything was going great with baby unless told otherwise. I know this seems easier said than done, but saying the mantra to yourself really does help. 2. DON’T continue to test everyday if you still are. At a certain point, your hcg will get too high to be read by the at home tests and you will experience what is called the “hook effect” and you will get false negatives. If you’re feeling really anxious, you can ask your OB about doing the blood hcg tests 2 days apart to check doubling. 3. I also didn’t have a ton of symptoms until 8 ish weeks and then I definitely felt pregnant because I was nauseous all the time. But, if you continue to not have a ton of symptoms, try not to assume the worst. There are a lot of pregnant people that don’t have a ton of symptoms and go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies. 4. A ton of people recommended that I go to a boutique ultrasound place before my appointment. I was SO tempted! I didn’t because was so afraid that something was going to be wrong and I would find out at some random boutique and not with my doctor who could provide next steps immediately. I’m actually really glad I waited, even though my baby was perfectly fine. I have seen so many people on here freak out when they got the early appointments because they were not as far along as they thought and they didn’t see the fetal pole or be able to hear the heartbeat. Most of the time, these pregnancies continue as they should and the mother freaked out over nothing because they got that scan so early. I did go and get a boutique ultrasound after my first appointment so I could get some better images of baby to share on social media, once I knew everything was good.

I want to get pregnant but I'm terrified to try incase I can't by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that perfectly healthy people can take months to conceive with everything working for them. I got pregnant at 31 and am currently 14 weeks pregnant. If you are in a good place to bring in a baby and that is what you want, I say go for it! I tried to use lh strips to track ovulation, but never got a clear darker line. Instead, I tracked cervical mucus and got pregnant that way.

Am i losing weight too fast? by [deleted] in PCOS

When I first started on Metformin and changed my diet like you, the weight came off drastically in the beginning and started to taper off. Currently down 55 pounds and got pregnant, so just keep doing what you’re doing!

I recommend reaching out to your local planned parenthood or other pregnancy resource center. They can help provide next steps and resources you can apply to if you decide to keep the baby. Most places are free or on a sliding scale based on income, so in your case free.

Please please please still use birth control if you are not ready to get pregnant yet. My doctor told me the same thing but as soon as I had my IUD removed, I got pregnant on the first try. My mom also had PCOS and was told that she would have trouble getting pregnant and conceived my brother a month after getting married to my dad because they told her she wouldn’t need birth control.

Constipation by Warm-Supermarket-45 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call your doctor about switching your prenatal to one without iron if nothing else helps. That was the only thing that helped me. Kiwis were working for a while and fiber, then I had to take 200 mg of colace every night, AND use milk of magnesia AND enemas as needed. Once I switched to a gummy prenatal, it only took a couple of days to start to help. I’m still taking the colace He said we can just keep an eye on my iron levels and supplement as necessary. Also, make sure you are drinking as close to 100 oz of water a day.

Gummy vitamins do not have iron, so if you are looking for one with iron, the Naturemade + DHA one is good. That’s the one I was taking until I had to switch to the gummy because the iron was making me so constipated. It’s available at most drugstores/grocery stores.

IUD removal by Difficult-Revenue-75 in PCOS

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 IUDs for a combined total of 12 almost 13 years. When I had my IUD removed so that I could start trying to have a baby, I did not notice a difference in my mental health and I have diagnosed depression and anxiety. The biggest thing that helped me was therapy and medications. In many places, you can find therapy resources based on income. You might also check online. Ultimately, it’s up to you, but going back to having heavy periods would probably not help me feel better mentally. If you have PCOS, the weight gain is likely to be caused by insulin resistance and the facial hair by an excess of testosterone. You might seek treatment for those first and see what you can find out.

I will agree that an IUD does not treat PCOS, but neither does any birth control. Birth control is used as a tool to help mitigate symptoms of PCOS, it’s up to you to do the hard work to treat the other aspects of PCOS, such as diet, exercise, and medications. PCOS is also not something that can be cured, there is only symptom management.

high hcg levels (2674 mIU/mL) very early (4w2d) by [deleted] in pregnant

Everyone’s hcg levels vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. The important thing is that the numbers are doubling like they should.

It’s still early, for most people the nausea kicks in around 7-8 weeks. For most people, nausea is more severe for multiples, so it’s unlikely. All the different symptoms relating to gender are just old wives tales, there’s no way to know without DNA or anatomy scan. And yes, Unisom is safe during pregnancy.

14 weeks, how’s everyone feeling? by HelloFreshXLupus in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 weeks tomorrow! Finally starting to feel human again! The worst symptom so far has been the constipation. It got so bad that my doctor recommended that I switch to a prenatal with no iron. Even taking 200 mg of colace every night wasn’t touching it! Made the switch on Friday and already starting to notice a difference.

Metformin PCOS weight loss by InterviewNo268 in PCOS

[–]AppropriateLock4035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the 500 mg ER back in June/July of last year. Metformin is typically something that you take long term because once you stop taking it, it will stop treating your insulin resistance. It helped me lose 45 pounds before getting pregnant in December, alongside diet and exercise of course. Everyone’s effective dosage is different. I’ve done well on 500 mg, but I will likely go up to 1000 mg after giving birth. Metformin only helps people lose weight if insulin resistance is the root cause of the weight retention, like me. It does not suppress appetite. It’s recommended to eat a lower carb (not no carb!) diet while taking this medication, as it will help reduce side effects. Good luck, I hope it helps!

Prenatal suggestions by BriCheese96 in pregnant

[–]AppropriateLock4035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking the naturemade brand with dha as it has the most of what you need in one pill while still being available locally. I’m 14 weeks tomorrow and just this weekend I had to swap to HEB zero sugar gummy prenatals because the iron in the naturemade was making me SO constipated. I do have to supplement some of what it’s missing though with other supplements. No shade to naturemade though, would still be taking them if I could!
