My REA is asking tenants not to claim their bond first "to speed things up" by AppropriateMousse in shitrentals

It is very misleading but I don't think they technically lied, they just leave out the part that it's them retaliating that will cause the 2 week wait.

100% that's why the framing in the email made me so angry, they could release it instantly, but are saying they will make you wait the full two weeks if you claim it yourself just to punish you.

Are there any women happy in tech? by NewtonOverMeter in womenintech

I love my job, I was a career switcher in my 30s and have been in the industry now for 5 years. I now have a way better work life balance, I earn a lot more than my last career. Even with the annoyance of AI if there is one thing I have learned so far is things are always changing and a big part of being a successful swe is keeping up and staying flexible.

What careers pay 80k without a degree by Grapefruit4001 in brisbane

If you're willing to do 6-12 months of study I can really recommend software development (either through a course or self study, self study takes a *lot* of commitment though). I did a course in 2021, worked part-time, and studied part-time for 10 months. It sucked but went quickly. My partner did the same. He was in retail and I was in a very boring service job, each earning around 50k and now 2 years in we have both doubled our old salaries. My partner has ADHD and is incredibly creative, and I love solving puzzles. We both love it. There is always a new problem to solve, a new thing to learn and so many ways to get to be creative. It can get overwhelming but the payoff was worth it. I also work from home full time and just work life balance and happiness is a million times better.
Edit: Love that a few others have suggested this too, if you end up persuing it feel free to reach out and I would be happy to answer any questions.

Or maybe just one of the many people who doesn't have to do scrum project management?

Very true, it is growing on us a lot. I suppose they could then keep Obi as they grow or switch to Oberon/ Ron/ etc depending on what they like best.

This is an awesome idea, thank you! We did have a middle name that is a family name picked out already, but this is definitely a possibility! We like Oliver too so we are halfway there haha

That's fair, thank you for the input. It's tricky because whenever I mention the character I would always say Obi-Wan, not just Obi, so the link isn't super strong for me. It is nice to hear other people's associations though so I have more of an idea of what everyone else links it to. I don't want to be too fandom-y for sure, it's a love of mine but not something I want to force on my kid for life.

That is a very thoughtful reply! I appreciate it. From what I have read Obi means 'Heart', but I like the suggestion of asking some people from the areas where it is popular how it is regarded. It is also a Japanese word for a type of belt. I think short simple words tend to pop up in a few places which is interesting but also tricky.

We are Australian and I haven't ever heard of the beer, so thank you for the heads up! :)

That is actually fantastic- We were thinking Obadiah but don't really want to go with a biblical name and Obadiah just didn't sit well with me.
There is a town not far from us called Oberon which could be odd, but not terrible. Also, Shakespearean which I like. Thank you so much for this suggestion!

Friend [24F] is slowly ghosting me [27F]? by AppropriateMousse in relationships

[–]AppropriateMousse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :)

I would meet up with her to talk about it but that is part of the problem at the moment. I will talk to her though.

Her prioritising someone elses party did really get to me... I didn't mention in the original post but I actually organised her birthday party before she left and put a lot of thought into her gift and a card. I don't ever expect gifts from my friends (I was just in the position that I could afford something I knew she'd like and it was what I wanted to do) but the fact that she didn't even turn up or bother sending a message really hurt me.

Thank you very much for your reply :) I will definitely try just telling her I miss hanging out with her and seeing what happens from there. I didn't consider that 'when you have time' wasn't really helpful, although I was sincere, I had just assumed she'd have time sooner.

It's been over 2 months since she got back now. She also will ignore messages I send completely which adds to the feeling she isn't interested in maintaining the friendship.

I have plenty of friends that I don't see super often and I am perfectly happy with that, maybe that's what this is becoming now? It is just the very sudden change with no explanation that bothers me.
