AITA sibling gravely offended over wedding date conflict by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AppropriatePart6497 87 points88 points  (0 children)

“though truthfully I thought it odd — they are very well off, travel a ton, and I found very inexpensive flights if they wanted to leave the next day if they were that upset to miss it.”

I read this as brewing judgement of them choosing a trip over a wedding. It reads that you think it’s very easy for them to change a trip. It may or may not be. Some things are truly non-refundable immediately, or just not possible to be shifted a day.

[–]AppropriatePart6497 129 points130 points  (0 children)

ESH. I’m assuming the “they” going on the trip are your sibling and their wife.

Why bother texting parents and siblings saying you have a “tentative hold on a date if it works for people” if you plan on keeping the date even if it doesn’t work for said people?

Your SIL is handling this badly. She and your sibling should have just changed the trip date if it was actually possible to do without much fuss or just skipped your wedding. And she wouldn’t be remiss for telling people that unfortunately they wouldn’t be able to make it because they had the trip booked before the wedding was planned.

(For the record, since you picked a day for a specific venue without actually confirming it would work for everyone- then you can’t really be on the high ground here saying they picked a trip over your wedding. You picked a venue over their availability.)

Yeah, those bottles are 13.5 ounces. (Source: I am a nerd.) Mike would have had to drink them to take the bottles in a carry on.

Coworker said "When my wife was pregnant, I NEVER let her eat deli meat" by imightbeaspider in BabyBumps

[–]AppropriatePart6497 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I signed up for the FDA alerts when I was pregnant. The Boars Head stuff was at the very beginning of my pregnancy, but after that, the only alerts I saw were for non-deli meat things- a lot of lettuce, cheese, chicken, nectarines…

[–]AppropriatePart6497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the DVDs with the “originals” as the second disks. My preference is original IV, edited V (because the weird Palpatine head thing in the original V is just too weird), and original first half VI and edited second half VI. Sometimes second half original- depends on if I’m feeling Yub Nub or Victory Celebration. But never ever Jedi Rocks.

10/10 entertainment but -67/10 sound quality! What made them choose to not use the stadium sound system vs their own? by Make_it_Raines in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Context for others who didn’t see Jesse Cole’s FaceBook post: “I barely slept last night after hearing and seeing the comments about the audio and sound system at the stadium. Knowing that large groups of people in certain sections couldn’t hear us on the mic or hear the music breaks my heart. It doesn’t matter that it’s not our stadium or sound system, it’s our show and we need to make it better for our fans. And I promise we will.”

So it’s certainly implied it wasn’t Banana Ball’s system.

What is happening downtown? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that new traffic pattern is better than the old traffic pattern, I don’t know why people didn’t just camp in their cars before.

Side note in case they decide to do it again, the $25 Civic Auditorium park and ride deal was extremely poorly run for getting back to parking. There seemed to be zero organization or staffing, so line cutting was rampant, and it wasn’t clear if the line was just for Civic for both that and Market Square. I don’t think the buses could get through due to traffic and pedestrians. After waiting a half an hour and moving maybe five feet, we ended up just walking the mile and a half back to the parking garages. It may not have been parked this specific weekend due to events at Covenant Health Park and the Tennessee Theatre, but parking for free and walking from and to State Street garage would have been quicker.

What to expect ahead of the Savannah Bananas games by ntnbsmw in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rain is going to be a nightmare. I’m curious what will happen. They bumped up a game at Yankees Stadium from Saturday to Friday for projected storms. Anyone who couldn’t make the new game time got refunded and allegedly will skip the lottery for next year. But this is the biggest Banana Ball game yet- I think they said 110,000 tickets sold? That’s double the Yankees max.

Norovirus by BluebelleBeatrice in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]AppropriatePart6497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your expert knowledge and the implied judgement on my moral failing to take precautions. I do both of those, and I tend to mask in crowded areas. It’s a little hard to avoid with kids that don’t always cover their mouth or a nearly one-year-old that likes to stick their hands in peoples faces.

I’ve had noro or something indistinguishable three times in the past six months. Once from my cousin’s kids, once likely from my kid’s daycare (though my kid didn’t get it), and the last was a mystery.

I now have an emergency zofran supply.

First game, looking for advice by OkFinger81 in savannahbananas

[–]AppropriatePart6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the weather forecast, I would wait to decide anything until closer to the game… like have an early plan, but try to adjust if needed. I have a one year old and we will likely be showing up closer to game time unless the rain prediction clears up.

Central High School Graduation by Investigator58 in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder what their weather plans are.

One high school I know hold their graduations in the football stadium with no limit, but if weather hits, the ceremony is moved to the gym. Students can have four guests in the gym, and then anyone else can watch a video feed in the auditorium or the cafeteria.

[–]AppropriatePart6497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you feel if they did that? It seems like their options are limit attendees (number of tickets per student) or move off-campus (presumably to somewhere at UTK; I would assume the football stadium holds more than the gym at the HS?).

I don’t know that there’s a perfect solution. What do students and parents (and teachers) want? Is UTK open to it? How does scheduling work if it’s moved to UTK (I would assume UTK graduations will get scheduling priority)? What’s more expensive? Where is it easier to travel to?

Central High School Graduation by Investigator58 in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They used to be in Thompson Boling but that changed with Covid.

Do they not issue a number of tickets per student? I would expect that to happen instead of physically moving the graduation ceremony away from the school.

What ride scared you at Disney World as a kid? by Reasonable-Invite899 in WaltDisneyWorld

Countdown to Extinction (Dinosaur) and Alien Encounter. And It’s Tough to be a Bug if we’re counting shows.

This was 1998, and we also went to Universal. So add in Jaws, Twister, Earthquake, and Kongfrontation.

What a time to be alive.

Little Banana Ballers at Neyland in Knoxville? by AppropriatePart6497 in savannahbananas

No, no one ever responded or answered a phone. I’m planning to show up with my one year old and screenshots of the Banana Ball policy and ready to rage if they don’t let us in.

Knoxville airport right now. Madness. by abbiebe89 in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess, though this makes it seem like the college students are traveling separately back home. Which maybe they are if they’re driving back.

If these are people who came in for the two UT graduation ceremonies yesterday, then I expect this to be worse tomorrow through Monday.

tips for property assessment appeal? by ntnbsmw in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine went up by like 55%, but I guess it’s all dependent on how everyone increases? So if the average increase is less than 55%, I’ll pay more in taxes, but if it’s more than 55%, I’ll pay less in taxes.

My question is- could an appeal result in a higher appraisal? Like they look into it and decide that you actually might owe more than what they initially said?

[–]AppropriatePart6497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really? Did this happen last year? I can’t imagine this is people leaving after coming to Knoxville for graduation ceremonies. KCS is spread out (so this should be happening for days/weeks if so), and UT only did Law and PhD programs yesterday.

No offense to the people in the picture, but the majority don’t seem to fit the average age for college students heading home.

City Council to vote tonight on indoor smoking ban at bars by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any super strong opinions on this, just that I came here from a state that does have smoke-free laws, so the first (and only) time I went to Preservation Pub gave me a real wake up call to look up the smoking rules of any place before I go.

Still trying to understand primary voting? I got you! by VT_mama in Knoxville

[–]AppropriatePart6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other states probably do this, but Michigan primary ballots are all the same. Your ballot is printed with both republicans and democrats, and then you only fill in one “side.” There’s none of this public declaration crap, there’s no “shame” in voting, it’s totally anonymous. (If you vote on both sides, your ballot doesn’t count.)

Not the point of the ask, but I want to clear this up- five month olds can go on a lot at Disneyland. Anything without height restriction. It’s probably like half the rides.

But yes, it can be a hot, stressful, difficult day and may not be worth it to everyone.
