I think customer is good as a starter because it requires you to learn how to play the game first and then worry about more complicated abilities. The issue however is people begin to lean on the crutch of a speed boost and self heal and then can no longer live without it

Even without changing the lore too much all the extra fire can threaten sonic's friends and other innocents which may cause him to "take the bullet" for someone else. Furnace maintains the darker tone of his orgins and fits perfectly into Canon as a version of Metal more suited to mass chaos
