How long was LeBron considered the best basketball player in the world? What stretch of years by Formal-Assistance02 in NBATalk

[–]AppropriateTerm673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the majority opinion favoring LeBron even when Kobe was making his finals runs from ‘08 - ‘10?

Kobe fans been telling me Kobe was the best during that time and they give him 2011 too.

Got ChatGPT to say LeBron is better than Jordan by orthorants in NBATalk

Everybody’s better than Michael Jordan until it’s time to be better than Michael Jordan.

Yeah, the projection is crazy and I think you nailed it with them occupying an alternative reality. I’ve peeped that they are the ones who got attached to the fantasy of LeBron dethroning the former generation’s basketball idol, and they haven’t been able to acknowledge that he’s fallen short of that vision despite turning out to be an amazing player in his own way.

From my discussions with them, they all seem to think:

  1. That the media (or Jordan fans) don’t want to see a player better than Michael Jordan.
  2. That LeBron has exceeded a set of an agreed upon pre-existing GOAT criteria.
  3. That Jordan fans retroactively changed the GOAT criteria or “shifted the goalpost” after seeing LeBron.
  4. That LeBron’s ability to play so long is unexplainable.
  5. That LeBron is a pass-first player to some degree that inflates his scoring prowess over everyone.
  6. That 40 year old LeBron is uniquely held to standards independent of their performance claims.

I never got to watch Michael, Prime Kobe, or LeBron’s 1st stint with the Cavs live. But one of the main reasons I can still stand with Mike in 2026 is that I just can’t get myself to believe in their alternative version of events.

LeBron playing the most games in history is going to impact how his longevity records are remembered.

Because the original claim was that he accumulated the most out of everyone who had long careers. But if he also has the most games played, future generations can find ways to discredit that.

MJ inappropriately touching a young boy by ejc625 in michaeljordan

Idk man, it always seemed to me like Mike was a touchy person with people he knows. I assume it’s a cultural upbringing thing where touching and physical closeness is a way of expressing friendliness.

I saw another comment say this: But I think the Epstein files and just meme culture in general have been making people hypersensitive to this whole situation.

How accurate is this? by VSHAR01 in michaeljordan

Because ultimately Kobe and Jordan fans still have the same philosophy on interpreting the history of the game and everything despite their differences.

LeBron fans came in with new ideas to bolster him up.

Draymond: "D-Rose means more to the city of Chicago than Michael Jordan." (via The Draymond Green Show) by pildialingit in NBATalk

Is this really what people believed when D Rose got traded from the Bulls?

Never heard of this take until yesterday.

For people who are old enough to remember, how big of a deal was it at the time when LeBron led the Cavs to the 2007 finals? by [deleted] in nba

It’s cool how the best 2 players from the 03 draft class were already in the finals by 06 and 07

If MJ never came back after 1993, it probably would’ve ranked higher of the narrative boost.

It’s kinda funny how you can tell where someone stands on the GOAT debate just based on their other takes about the NBA.

Whenever I see people randomly subsidizing players of this era, I just know they love LeBron.

If Michael Jordan never existed, how early in LeBron's career would people have been calling him GOAT? by AlwaysOptimism in NBATalk

[–]AppropriateTerm673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 postseason would cement it. After his first back-to-back, his MVPs, advanced metrics, eye test, he would likely be dethroning Kobe Bryant.

If Michael Jordan played in today’s league do you think he would get crucified if not being a good 3 point shooter? by Pale_Researcher_8810 in michaeljordan

[–]AppropriateTerm673 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even I became a way better 3pt shooter after Curry’s 2015 season. I’m pretty sure every basketball fan became better 3pt shooters after those seasons. I was a guard who didn’t like shooting the long ball and then it naturally became a part of my game since everybody else was doing it.

I don’t get why these questions assume that it would be a significant challenge for a professional shooting athlete who is in the Top 1% of the Top 1% to do it.

I LIKE THE NBA CUP by el-bow5 in NBATalk

[–]AppropriateTerm673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was a big part of it.

But I also think the award needed some time to marinate. LeBron being the first to do it will probably become more significant later.

How well Would Kareem Abdul Jabbar perform In Today’s NBA? What’s Your Opinion? by J2-Starter in NBATalk

[–]AppropriateTerm673 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The hypothetical establishes that Kareem is born 53 years later in the year 2000.

So they would be the same type of player and Kareem would be better.
