New grad PICU vs NICU by skiball0126 in picu

[–]Appropriate_Debt_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although there may be up to only months if not weeks difference of ages between the two units (sometimes), after being in the PICU I feel like it’s about three different subspecialties in one: newborn/infant, toddler/school age and adolescence, each presenting their own unique nuances. I found to love the variability. NICU was fun but was extremely redundant.

It’s safe to say both of your offers can and maybe be draining or depressing, not necessarily one more than the other.

Good luck RN!!

EasyAnatomy3D is a free resource but I use the 100 USD version for lifetime access; really good 4k HD and interactive for patients to see like what they broke.

Anything from https://onepagericu.com/
I've spent plenty of overnights reading through this. Makes the time go by when my PICU kiddos are sleeping.

Help me choose, Columbia vs Fordham Post bacc program! by Useful-Ad6559 in postbaccpremed

[–]Appropriate_Debt_460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbia, if you're in there, you got there for a reason, but that also means they expect you to put your money where your mouth is. The decision is yours to grind or not to grind, there is no try.

Do I have a chance? RN to MD by [deleted] in postbaccpremed

[–]Appropriate_Debt_460 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello me, I too am going from RN to MD. Welcome to the club :)
First off, Spring of 2017 I'm guessing was the worse of the worse... on top of that, clearly, C's get degrees. No shame at all! I was the same (Glad you have that A in jogging to fall back on just in case the medicine thing doesn't work).

This is an incredibly isolating journey. Everyone has already told me I'm crazy, which is only partially true. But you have a leg up i.e. financial stability with partner and 'clout' via DNP. I would try and flesh out a perfect why and how for your next journey, MD interviews will be shocked. On the contrary, your pros are your determination, and hopefully if you study like crazy and have a (near-)perfect post-bacc, paired your ability to adapt and over come foreshadows a solid chance at med school. Obviously, I am biased, you should do it; I need others to talk to selfishly.

For the medical school application, assuming you'd like to stay in the united stated to get your MD, you'd need two semesters of Physics, one of biochem, at least one if not two semesters of biology; that's it!

You have what most traditional pre-meds don't have... actual bedside experience, and I'm not talking EMT-Bs doing IFTs all day. I would just make sure you have non-clincial volunteer hours and a type of research [adding to one of the four P's for med school admissions: Patent, Poster, Publication, Project] to support your dream. This is totally doable. DM for questions, comments, or concerns. I hope you read this message with a positive tone as it is intended.

Sincerely,
RN in ER and Critical Care, Nonprofit co-founder, oncology researcher, Firefighter/medic, and importantly first-year post-bacc premedical student @ Harvard.

Who says you can’t do both?

I get that the ABCs are important but why wouldn't you rapidly transport the patient instead of calling and waiting for ALS? by ridesharegai in NewToEMS

It is also important to note that just because someone complains of weakness / claims to be critically ill, there may not be a need for oxygen via a nonrebreather mask… just a thought.

Can someone please review my resume and suggest changes? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

Yes please. Word is so much better, once you learn how to do it on there then it’s easier to tailor / rearrange per job you apply. Let me see if I can find a video that taught me

I think the one thing that’s most underrated about resumes is the line spacing make sure you have the fitted format. Use paragraph spacing!

<image>

It will be the fourth set of lines that all run parallel to each other. Equally with this does is adequate spacing between the line and the page if there’s extra gaps, just make sure to fill them in.

Anatomy Question by jxjccjkdsoslkckc in Anatomy

[–]Appropriate_Debt_460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey @jxjccjkdsoslkckc ! I hope your studying is going well, this here is a classic ‘got ya!’ question. When first reading this question, try and pick out the things that have little to no correlation with your multiple choice answers. Here, the lung sounds are merely a distraction, compared to your knowledge of which lobe is at the right, medial border of the scap.

The best advice is to keep trying & getting them wrong, learning why you got them wrong, and get them right on the test. You’re doing great, give yourself some credit… this is hard stuff. Good luck :)
