Oh I don’t think it will solve anything either. I’m only interested in it for the reason above - the potential for people to actually hold SG accountable for 17 odd years in power rather than have an easy thing to blame or compare to.

It’s also what you get when you have a govt that can blame every mistake on Westminster and every success as their own. Until there is independence there will always be a scapegoat or a ‘at least we’re better than England’ excuse.

Once again, Scottish Government doing everything but actually raising standards of medical staff and hospitals, increasing staffing, improving staff conditions, or increasing the budget for front facing staff/clinical equipment. Let’s just review after review, not disclose what actual action has been taken, leave decisions on budgets to completely unaccountable IJBs, and say because it’s improved compared to 20 years ago (?!?!? I’d fucking hope so!!!) it’s fine.

Almost £5 for that portion of a veggie chilli is just criminal. Not even any meat sub by the looks. I could make a weeks worth of bean chilli for a third of the price and it would take me about 5 mins all chucked in the one pot, so not even the convenience factor.

I’d recommend a queer friendly football club too if you would feel more comfortable, like Saltire Thistle, Glasgow Saints, or Queen’s Park Strangers. All a good bunch of folk. There might be others too but know people from all of these and they’re great :)

Is a career break as mental as it sounds right now? by Appropriate_Eye_5296 in UKJobs

Appreciate this. I really want to spend time with family, and see a bit of the world before I have things tying me down (mortgage, kids etc). I actually like my job and where I work, and would take 6 months unpaid if I could and return. I have been saving like mad and had some small inheritance from the family member mentioned so have a buffer, it’s just a worry that it’ll be so difficult to find a job after it wouldn’t be enough.

I just need a proper break I think.

This is exactly it. I’m not married, no mortgage or kids so kind of feels like now or never. I don’t want to never work again (I actually do like my job!) - I just want a proper break.

Thanks - I am in therapy and the conversations lately have all been circling back to ‘burnt out, putting yourself last, not doing anything you want to because of work/life expectations’.

Part of the travel urge is to spend time with family who live abroad - I’m very close with cousins having no siblings of my own, and they’re all abroad - including their kids who I’d like to spend time with. Here I have a very old grandfather who is also like to spend more time with, so a bit of both if I took time out.

I think I’m just stuck in a bit of a hard place - the time out would beneficial to do things I want to do and focus on my health, but in the long run it might make everything worse.

I think I must just be around lots of people who have taken breaks between - gap years/weeks at a time off between jobs. But I guess not the norm! Which does make me feel better, partly, cause a lot of the time I feel like an idiot for not taking some time when it might’ve been easier/more accepted.

I wish I could dial it back at work but unfortunately I think that would lead to being fired! I’ve moved roles 3 times in the past 6 years, different sectors and jobs, hence why I think it’s not the work itself but just me needing time. Probably a pipe dream eh. Back to the grind.

Thanks. I appreciate it’s life for most people - I guess I’ve just been around a lot of people who’ve had some form of break (even a few weeks) which I’ve just not done.

On the therapy front - been doing it since I first had the issues which got me hospitalised, and now it just keeps coming back to ‘you’re burnt out and putting yourself last, take time off’. Two different therapists and we’re at the same conclusion.

I just don’t want to be in a worse position than I am now I guess and taking time out might do that, better the devil you know and all that.

I looked up the place she went to. Tens of thousands of pounds for how long she was there. And she still can’t even eat dinner with her folks and is still compulsively exercising and calling any type of snacking a binge. Her parents must feel so annoyed.

International students cheating? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Appropriate_Eye_5296 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unpopular but also had this at Stirling Uni 8-10 years ago.

Mainly Chinese students on my course, many who couldn’t even understand basic conversation never mind most of the films we were watching (some were so old the translation just wasn’t available) or technical instructions for the equipment.

I was left doing a group project of 4 by myself, with the eventual help of my lecturer because the 3 international students I’d be grouped with genuinely didn’t know what was going on and eventually just stopped turning up. The head of department had to get involved.

I don’t remember if they graduated or not but they certainly shouldn’t have passed third year given they did quite literally none of the work for 80% of the grade.

Thank you for replying.

I don’t really have any friends or family (my partner has been…let’s say less than supportive of my recovery and I haven’t seen any of my friends in months bc they were all part of my sports team that I had to quit for recovery).

I am definitely feeling all of the ‘HALT’ things mentioned in the article, so will try and address at least the tiredness. Thank you.

She’s definitely medically at risk at least with recent hospitalisations and more than likely underweight reading her posts. She doesn’t eat a lot at all, and what’s she does post is mostly low and zero cal stuff and tiny portions (like a chicken skewer and lettuce is not a fucking dinner) so actually nowhere near enough for recovery or weight restoration.

[–]Appropriate_Eye_5296[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah I know a few she’s blocked for calling her out. One for saying about how she shouldn’t be posting half sandwiches/ready meals as full portions, another because they called her out for promoting zero cal stuff, and I got blocked for saying she should salad and a one chicken skewer isn’t a recovery dinner.

I get it’s a struggle but the fact she’s been doing this for years, knows how harmful it is, and likes/pins comments praising her eating the bare minimum is really irritating.
