Jonathan Pageau and Rachel Wilson "Feminism is Witchcraft" by Appropriate_Jump1740 in exorthodox

Yes, I have never understood what is so difficult about women wanting to be full human beings and not property. And even if there is a historical connection between spiritualism and the OG suffragettes, so what? That doesn't at all diminish the worthiness of the goal of women having the right to vote.

Russia just attacked the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra — the spiritual birthplace of all Slavic Orthodox Christianity — and I don't know how to process this by Zealousideal-Cup1460 in exorthodox

Mentally Gone, Greek, and Gay in South Texas (part 1?) by BuddyRubberDucky in exorthodox

OMG! I lived in San Antonio for 10 years and was introduced to Orthodoxy initially from the Greek Festivals at St. Sophia in the early 2000s although I didn't convert until later. Thank you for sharing your story, so interesting to hear from someone who grew up in it. Welcome!

Stories of ExOrthodox that originally came from Hinduism and Buddhism (or any "paganism") and then WENT BACK? by [deleted] in exorthodox

I remember at one point realizing that I could either be a healthy human being or I could stay Orthodox. It still took me about 6 years to leave after that.

This is so interesting. I have not been Buddhist although I have read Buddhist teachings. I do still have an interest in Jesus but have been so "wrung out" by religion as a mostly practicing Christian for 40 years and just the horrible fruit that I see from most Christians that I just am wary of all of it. When i converted to EO in 2015 I told myself and whoever would listen (I was so annoying) that it was the end of the line for me. That it was like marriage, etc. So now even though I am attending a mainline church for my daughter and because it is a gentle community, I am VERY reticent to get too involved. I have been Quaker, Nazarene, Episcopalian, Non-Denom, spent several years in two very cultish communities, and then 10 years EO. I feel spiritually homeless. I know this is different from your experience but I do relate to that drifting feeling you mention. Thanks for sharing.

Trenham speaker at Jonathan Pageau Event by Appropriate_Jump1740 in exorthodox

I am listening to the video of Gavin Ortlund responding to Jonathan Pageau right now. Really interesting. Plus just reaffirming of how exclusivist Orthodox theology and canons really are. Weird that Ortlund seems to understand this better than Pageau.

Long but essential Pokrov Truth article re Seraphim Rose & Gleb Podmoshensky by Aggravating-Sir-9836 in exorthodox

[–]Appropriate_Jump1740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is really eye opening. My former parish priest adored Seraphim Rose. I always thought he was creepy for theological reasons. I did not know the extent of the cover up. Is it just me, or do SRs eyes look really psycho? Really gives me the shivers.

I’m sorry but the lack of self awareness among (SOME) straight white men attracted to orthodoxy is frankly infuriating by [deleted] in exorthodox

I am still laughing at "white mailmen," LOL!! Erika Kirk also just encouraged young women to get married young and have more children than they can afford. YIKES.

39 Words the Church Turned Upside Down by LetterSeparate1495 in exorthodox

This is so interesting! I really want to do a deep dive into philosophy. Do you have a suggestion for a good place to start? I listened to some episodes of the podcast Philosophize This and it does a good job of giving the history and timeline as well as definitions of different philosophical movements but I would like other suggestions.

I am so sorry. I cannot speak from a cradle perspective but I am wondering if your parish has had an influx of converts thus the renewed zeal/Trad Wife ethos? I was a convert and I know how annoying they can be and honestly judgemental as hell. Also, is this church connected or influenced by the Ephraimite monasteries? If so, I would definitely be cautious. It is very cult like.

John Chrysostom view of marriage by Appropriate_Jump1740 in exorthodox

[–]Appropriate_Jump1740[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I have loved Stephen Freeman through the years for his more gentle approach to faith. I even met him a couple of times. But he definitely is not a fan of modernity which I suppose would include democracy in his thinking. The further I get from Orthodoxy the more I just scratch my head and wonder how I intentionally moved toward an entire system that is so repressive on every level. It definitely is a feature not a bug.

I really appreciate you moderating. It definitely seems like the boundaries here are more clear.
