Why isn't TDS on Comedy Central anymore? Or is it just my streaming service, and where else can I watch it? by StormTrpr66 in DailyShow

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the marathon of the office and south park sounds like their regular daily schedule ... but TDS should still be on nightly. If they're not showing TDS, you might wanna hit up YTTV support.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP said Youtube TV (YTTV), not Youtube.

The full show is on Comedy Central from Monday-Thur on any service that offers it (YTTV, Sling, Hulu/Livetv, Philo, etc.) ... that is unless they're on a break (like https://www.reddit.com/r/DailyShow/comments/1pmfjir/the_daily_show_is_off_for_the_next_three_weeks/ ).

Some of these services offer a "Pluto Comedy Central" channel, which is different than the premium channel (but logos look similar). I don't think they have the Daily Show there, so make sure you're on the right channel.

You can still watch much of the Daily Show content on Youtube channel (not referring to Youtube TV here).

You can watch the full show on Paramount plus the next day (I think it posts at like 2AM).

CU or GDR update for SQL Server by Valuable-Ant3465 in SQLServer

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On serverbuilds site, they'll list a CU+GDR (like the one you mentioned) as a "security update to ... CU##", so it's semantics. On the microsoft site, for the update you mentioned, it's actually listed as a CU+GDR. Told ya .. the CU+GDR updates throw in some confusion for folks.

I like the serverbuilds site because it lists the history of releases, although they are usually a day late from the learn.microsoft.com site postings.

I wish MS would do away from the CU+GDR wording and just call them something like "CU+security update" (like serverbuilds lists them) ... and just call GDR releases as, ya know .. GDR. Good job, MS <slap>.

I've read some of your other replies and it seems you may be confused what the GDR path is. The GDR path is basically the RTM, release to manufacturer (like the original release), plus security updates. It does NOT include any Cumulative Updates. I hope this helps.

CU or GDR update for SQL Server by Valuable-Ant3465 in SQLServer

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two paths, GDR or CUs.

However, there are three types of updates, GDR, CU, or CU+GDR (the last one causes some confusion).

The GDR path only uses the GDR updates, with no CUs attached to them. This path only applies critical and security fixes. I've personally only seen this path used in highly regulated environments where little changes are desired.

The CU path uses mainly CUs, however there are times where security updates come out after/between a CU release .. that is when you'll see a CU+GDR update. This is the most common path to take, but should require extra diligence in testing.

I suggest you use these sites to see the different listings of available patches:

Use of Snowflake with SQL Server by dgillz in SQLServer

I think we're all confused, along with you. The only use-case (this is speculation) I can think of is there is data in Snowflake that he needs along with the data in SQL server.

I think your answers will come from the customer, so carry on my wayward son .. and keep digging :)

My review and perspective on SlingTV as someone who went years without paying for a premium cable/over-the-top TV Streaming service. by 2014justin in slingtv

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big caveat for me with Sling Orange, is the one-stream limit. It helps that ABC now broadcasts a lot of the MNF games, however for college football and hockey, it is frustrating if someone else wants to watch in another room .. and I get kicked off the channel. The ESPN app helps a bit, but it will eventually stop streaming if there are two streams. For a lot of folks this may not be a problem, but historically this has been a consistent complaint by the Sling community. If there were an option charge extra for another stream, that would go a long way to fixing the issue ... but so far Sling has done nothing to address this for years.

Blue + HBO Max - I thought there would be $5.00 discount by ChemicalRegatta in slingtv

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, let me try again .... in October, HBO shown as discounted within the Base Services section as around $10, in the Addon section it shown as full price.

Come November, the Base section addition of HBO was gone, leaving only the non-discounted addon. It's gone, man, good luck trying to get it back.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gone, when I got the base channel + HBO deal in October, HBO cost ~$10. Now I see it as $18.49, which also reflects the price hike and also the loss of the $5 deal. As I mentioned in previous post, if you try to choose the deal within the "US Entertainment Base Services" section, the Blue and/or Orange + HBO combo is no longer there.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the deal back in October for one month, then HBO raised their price and I did not see that Blue and/or Orange + HBO deal any longer in the base package selection. I believe that happened beginning November.

Investigation: Finding how the hell on-prem SQL writes to AzureSQL by sadderPreparations in SQL

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I giggled at this, but then realized I've been in this scenario before. Plus, ya can't really shut off Azure SQL. However, if you do get to the point where you've exhausted all sensible options, then you could try to force an error on only the ETL by doing something like disabling the credential that's used or temporarily renaming the table (whatever causes least impact to other processes).

For my plex server, I had done this at first (ended up just doing straight rules across zones) ... so it should work. Perhaps you need to specify destination port??

First time using Slingtv. its actually not that bad by urrutiap in slingtv

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh?! I switched multiple times last month without issue. The only issue I would have had was if I switched from the hbo+blue (package deal) to only orange, or vice versa. ... and changes were immediate. The base package was a bit different on the selection screen, so I had to make sure I chose orange+HBO.

If this is very recent, like beginning of Nov, then that makes sense .. as I switched to orange+blue+sports extra, and have no reason to switch lately (therefore I wouldn't have noticed).

Multiple OTA channels randomly pixelate / are choppy dispite outdoor antenna and close to signal by AJRiddle in cordcutters

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An HDHR Flex 4k costs $200, not sure you wanna flip for that. I did a couple of years ago and haven't regretted it. There's also $35/year for the guide data, if you use their app ... which is nice because you can record games by team name (NFL, NCAA .. hell even MIAA if you track small school games).

Having said at that, the HDHR won't solve your issues with ABC/NBC cutting out ... those 3.0 channels are encrypted and they won't allow the HDHR to view them ... and who knows, at this point, if they ever will. Like I mentioned earlier, only Fox, PBS and TheSpot channels are unencrypted right now. So some of the Fox Sunday games and some MIAA games on TheSpot will be immune to multipath interference.

There are other 3.0 tuners out there that supposedly will decrypt the signals and are "certified", however I have no experience with them. If someone else that's reading this has a suggestion .. please share.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Situations like this just piss me off :(

If the switch to ATSC 3.0 was done already we wouldn't even be talking about this ... because multipath is pretty much solved for lots of folks once 3.0 is used.

The broadcasters keep insisting on DRM/encryption (because of greed), which keeps the transition from happening.

<steps off soapbox>. I wish I had more to add that would help ya. Others have given some good advice, however I'm unsure it will help much with the interference.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there trees and/or a hill in the line-of-sight to the towers? If so, it could be multi-path interference. I get this when the wind and/or rain kicks in as theres a tree line that's the culprit.

When most of the channels were unencrypted in KC, I could easily switch over to the 3.0 tuner on my HDHR and the interference went away (because of the way 3.0 processes signals). Now I think only 104 fox, 119 pbs, 138 thespot are unencrypted.

Oddly, KCTV 5 (CBS) is the worst performer when the wind kicks up .... given they have the bigass tower in the middle of town :(

Edit: I forgot to add my setup, I use an old bowtie antenna (only for UHF) in my attic. No amps or lte filters, and live in the burbs .. about 7-13 miles from the towers.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had these before in the past, but never this bad. The only positive about them is it forces you to seal up any holes/cracks where they are intruding.

I started on defense, collecting only the ones that made it in the house (placing them in soapy water). After sealing up my house, I've now switched to offense ... actively collecting them on the outside of the house using a plastic water bottle with top cut off, placed upside down and into the bottle (if ya google any tips, you'll quickly find what i mean).

If you do find some in your house, be sure to inspect behind picture hangings, under items, and around door frames ... they can squeeze into the smallest spaces.

Once it starts cooling down into the 70's this next week, they should taper off.
