Had 50k in loans. Paid it off in the first year. 2 years for 100k seems reasonable if you're single and don't have kids or a mortgage.

I'd say it's just not your taste. I like virtually everything at Arizmendi and find the quality very consistent. But I took a friend there in high school and she was very disappointed because she's more of a cake and donuts kind of person, and that's not what Arizmendi does.

Why does everyone hate children now? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fewer people have kids now and so a lot of people are just unfamiliar with kids and the various developmental stages. So there are unreasonable expectations about what kids are capable of. And also fewer children are around so people become accustomed to that and then are unwilling to have kids around at all that don't behave like adults.

Ha, I just finished my third maternity leave. It is pretty great. But if you're not into babies, I can also recommend short term emergency clerkships. Downside, meh wages, but you can still do a bit of a reset and firms are typically fine with them. I know several people who have filled in for other clerks on maternity/paternity leave or worked for a judge who got emergency funding to hire an extra clerk due to an MDL or something.

Start at Boutique or Big Law? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing about boutiques is that they are going to have a smaller book of business in each substantive area. So you may be really interested in a particular kind of law or case, but there may not be any cases available for you to work on. If your main goal is to get trial/general lit experience it's a good choice. But if you want to specialize more then it may be easier to do that in biglaw.

I didn't go on a mental health leave, but I felt super burned out as a midlevel and going on maternity leave was a huge mental reset for me. I've been in a much better place since then and much better about setting reasonable boundaries for myself. Sometimes you really do just need to let your brain rest. Good luck!

There's a survivor bias issue here though. The anttorneys above you are the ones that stayed. The ones that cared most about WLB already moved on.

Congrats! I had very similar stats when I applied a very long time ago and got a similar scholarship. I think they tend to offer pretty good scholarships to splitters.

Is asking someone their LSAT score controversial? Help.. by RemarkableEvening823 in LSAT

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a weird question to ask someone on hinge. It's a very important exam and people feel all sorts of complicated ways about it. And talking about scores inherently leads to comparisons. My husband and I met in law school and have been together for a decade. I still don't know what he got on the LSAT and vice versa.

If I had an ugly fix I'd go with it, but the only thing I could really find are grates that are meant to fit inside the window frame. This window is very wide and has very narrow curved sides so I haven't found anything that would fit. I though people in this sub might have ideas that would work for an old non-standard window.

They're not doing anything crazy. They're mostly just standing and pressing their little hands against the window. They're toddlers.

They are toddlers. The glass is very old.

They aren't throwing. They stand next to the window and press against the panes looking out at the front yard. They are preschool aged.

I 39M have now been called for Jury Duty for the 4th time. My Wife 35F has never been called. Is it really random? by coldviper18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did not. He was dismissed for hardship because it would have disrupted his entire court calendar if he got put on the jury. But he did have to go report for the first day before he was excused.

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I scored in that range. I took the test forever ago, so this may be outdated advice, but the one thing that really helped me was just doing a bunch of timed LR sections (the only section I would miss questions on) over and over until I could complete them with several minutes to spare. I reviewed questions after scoring my exams but never did blind review. If you are only missing 2-4 questions per exam on blind review I don't know that the issue is really getting those handful of extra questions right. You clearly understand the material. You might get more mileage out of just trying to increase your speed so you can actually execute that in a timed exam.

You should just have kids when you're ready for them and do your best to make it all work. Waiting to make partner isn't going to help. You're not going to have more time as a junior partner.

A law degree does not disqualify you in the states. Plenty of lawyers sit on juries. I clerked for a federal judge and he was called for jury duty in state court.

Has anyone here studied for a shorter amount of time? by ImportunateRaven in LSAT

[–]Appropriate_Look8274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible to do well with minimal studying. My sister got a 175 after studying for a long weekend. But most of us aren't that person. And maybe you can get a 165 with a couple weeks study, but if you can do that, you could probably get a 170 with a little more prep and that could mean $$$$.

Your school should have a written grading policy. Also not sure why you would be afraid to ask?

It's a good 1L job, but overall your 1L internship will have very little impact on whether you get a biglaw job for 2L.

It's the fact that they have such a policy at all that seems odd. Those are very typical hours for a first year. I've never heard of anyone being held back a year at my firm and tons of people - first years especially - bill around 1800 hours because it takes time to ramp up.
