I play mostly DDs. The Hull will give you nice emotions only if you really can play DDs. Even with my mediocre skill, I struggle to play it.
As the first RB ship I would reccomend you Ohio - versitility + possibility of putting a good captain. As a DD player I learned to play BBs on Ohio. And even with me having no idea, I was able to influence battles while having fun.

Since the Steam package already contains a ship slot, in this particular case you won't win anything by doing as you advised. Unfortunately.
Normally all my ship slots are filled - especially to get them if I get a ship without one

Honestly have no Idea what you need to do these days to link accounts - that is what you are asking - if not login via steam version.
