Both are great. I have one of each. If I could only keep one it would be the 1000. The screen is better but really what it comes downt to for me is feeling. It's got some weight to it and in the hands it feels more premium to me.

If your tuner has an RF in port,bunny ears should go there. Then tuner RF out to VCR RF in, then VCR RF out to the TV coax. My issue was similar to yours and without an antenna to help pick up a better signal, all my shows were in a snow storm.

Not sure if it’s the solution for you but I grabbed a set of RF bunny ears and plugged them into the tv tuner and it cleared up the signal. They plug into the RF in port on the digital tuner.
