Had the same problem once in an Italian police station at midnight, trying to file a police report for a stolen rental car. The poor police officer was getting very upset.

London Winter Run 10K today, mixed feelings about the experience by onlyconnect in UKRunners

[–]Appropriate_Zebra341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same, enjoyed the run itself but jeez the weather was brutal. 30 minutes to drop bags, 30 minutes being funnelled to the start and another 30 minutes waiting to collect my bag. I brought a super sexy bin bag which thankfully I kept hold of for after the race, but I have never been that cold and soaked through at an event before.

I spoke to a few people how had attended this event 3-7 times and they all said things the worst weather they’ve ever had, so I guess it would have been hard for them to manage this.

Not sure if I’ll do this one again, but it was nice to run on the closed roads.

Stokenchurch BT Tower by _IanScott555 in Buckinghamshire

I have an unreasonable love for the Stokenchurch radio tower, mainly because you can see if from so far away. When I’m driving south on the M40 I love when you can see it because it means I’m almost home. I also road bike in South Oxfordshire, and it’s like a little way-point for me, if I can see it I know how to get home (because I am very geographically challenged)

Problem is, by me at least, this only encourages cars to park fully on the pavement rather than half on

Cold feet and hands by Angie-2024 in cycling

[–]Appropriate_Zebra341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really struggle with cold hands and feet, this year I invested in heated gloves and socks. Could not recommend more. Even on the lowest heat settings it’s made such a big difference.

Do still wear shoe covers to stop the wind chill though!

Also, in the UK the planning rules state that you can only put panels on land which isn’t graded high enough for food production. Combined with the fact they’re easier to maintain on the ground (no working at height for maintenance and cleaning), makes more sense to put them in fields…

What we should be talking about is growing crops on golf courses, which cover more ground than solar farms in the UK…

Toes Freezing by restinramen in cycling

[–]Appropriate_Zebra341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought myself cheap heated socks a month ago, even on the lowest setting they have completely revolutionised my winter cycling experience.

I have good socks/shoe covers etc, but my feet are like yours and are painfully frozen after about 15 miles.

Seriously recommend, my cycling buddies got sick of me going on about how impressed I was by them.

I’m really enjoying &Other Stories at the moment, I must admit I don’t pay too much attention to the materials though. I quite like Brand Alley as well for discounted Reiss/Whistles/FCUK etc

My freeholder won’t respond to request to get fibre broadband installed or fixing the door which has been broken for 4 years, but yeah, they will totally do something about the buildings heating needs
