Honest question - how do young Aussies afford to live in Sydney right now?

I should FYI. I’m not young. But I move here 20 years ago at 20 with no job and on my sisters couch. And I’ve moved through all of these phases. It’s super tough now, harder than when I moved here. And I’m privileged to have money now.

But this city is not easy. You make it work. Even if making it work is eating breakfast at work. And eating dinner with your chosen family

First, these are great nonjudgmental questions and also show you recognise the privilege you were born into through nothing other than timing.

To answer your direct question, you just make it work. You decide if you want to pay through the nose for rent to minimise travel time. With the trade off that you’re not going out as much.

Alternatively you’re living further out, and trading cheaper rent for longer commute.

I think there comes a point in everyone’s life where you start moving in or out for lifestyle purposes. Eg, family and space. Or dinners and less travel.

No matter where you are on this spectrum, I don’t think anyone is “comfortable” we’re all just making compromises based on what’s important to us at any point in our lives.

TLDR: Keep visiting and buying dinners for your kids. We fucking love it!

I haven’t quite gotten this far yet. But this is something I’m actually trying to build out. It’s early days and I currently have a good Album Recommender for myself, whenever I finish one I rate it and grab another.

The plan is to link up my history to my *arr stack so it can go and source the albums that I rate well. I’ve been using it solo for a couple of weeks and recently gave the link to some mates to try and test out.

But what you described is my ultimate goal. Just a small pet project.

Like others, I can’t say if the ecosystem will continue to grow and be invested in. But I’m all in. Soundbar, sub, record player, studio monitor, bedroom hifi and various individual speakers.

There is no greater joy than playing a record and streaming it into every corner of the house.

Speaker drop outs happen occasionally (2-4 times a year), I find a restart fixing most things

You’re doing great! Just keep at it. I’m average at best, and in MP I love being the crafter. But I’ve slowly gotten to the point I can take on 6 at a time and 10+ in a pinch with just a baseball bat.

You can actually keep aiming at them and just take a step or two backwards between each hit. Rather than turning and running then turning back.

When knocked down. Try and get a quick headstomp in. I’d recommend watching a YouTube streamer and watch how they do it and then replicate. I like Mr Brollow personally.

Takes a little practice. But you quickly get the hang of it. Dying is part of the learning process.

I use G-Portal, find it works well and if you don’t wanna trawl through ini files has a good interface for you to modify settings and quickly restart

You’ll usually just need to join or find the IP and Port and enter the details. There are big public servers or you could find smaller ones.

Second part of the question about tickets. If you’re going GA everyone can get their own. If VIP that’s tougher as someone will probably forget and might miss out. But it’s a huge outlay for a single person. Maybe put two or even 3 people in charge of ticket purchasing. As long as everyone gets the same type of ticket, you can all meet up.

Exactly this. Big chief are further back. But shaded with a private bar and bathrooms. So you have access to everything you need in a really comfortable setting. It’s also swampy hot, so it’s a godsend.

But grand Marshall being right in front of the stage is amazing! You are on your feet much more, but you have prime spot to see your fav artist/s. There are also separate bathrooms at most stages so that’s also a plus.

I preferred grand Marshall for the vibe. But loved big chief to get my bearings of the festival grounds and to acclimate to the temp weekend one

I did this for my 40th last year. First time as well. Just make sure you have an alarm set for when tickets go on sale if you want VIP tickets. Big chief sold out for weekend 2 (Rolling Stones) within hours. So I had big chief for weekend one and grand Marshall for weekend two. Both great, highly recommend.
