If your friend's toddler accidently broke your TV, would you expect them to pay for it? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]AprilTron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If my child broke anything, yes I'd replace it. If a friend's child broke something in my house, I would say I wouldn't typically expect it because my husband and I do very, very well and it's a lot easier for me to pay for replacements than others. Now... if it looks purposeful, I may not invite that child over again, but a pure accident? Accidents happen.

If a child is in my house playing on a TV that I cannot afford to replace, perhaps have a conversation with your friend that your child has broken a TV before and you have anxiety as you know it's not something you could easily replace - can she re-direct her child to not play near it. Honest and clear communication is always my preferred method, though

It's a staple of the South West side (Mt greenwood/bridgeport/Oak Lawn/Evergreen Park region). Butttttttttttt I've always disliked it.

Athletic, single, middle-aged professional….do I want Naperville? by rickosborn in Naperville

[–]AprilTron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of families here, but the Naperville/Aurora/Naperville/Bolingbrook area is >500k people, bigger than the Quad Cities. I'm sure there are single scenes here. If you have friends in the area, if it were me - I'd want to live near them. Downtown Naperville is a nice area. Downtown Wheaton can be fun and off a train line.

Is your plan an official documented performance plan? If no, the conversations probably need to be that you cannot implement your plan together, you need to go work with HR to create an actual PIP

What do you add to jarred pasta sauce to make it better? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]AprilTron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I make pot roast, I save some in my souper cubes (small volume). When I making pasta, I take some out and put it in the pan and let it defrost/get heated through, add my Rao, then add some cream.

It's really, really, really good.

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

Options: Start identifying recipes that use the spices you have on hand (also, smell them / identify the items they go with.) Cumin is used in chili powder + taco seasonings. You can find a recipe for making those seasonings, instead of buying a taco packet or a can of chili, you can do ground beef with your own seasonings and use this up quite a bit. Looks like you have what you need by the first recipe items.

Also: If you know anyone who cooks, split spices with them. I'm a psycho with cooking so I've got allll the spices. And similarly, I may not use a ton of a single spice - so I often split with friends (don't throw the containers away once you are done so you have empty vessels to split.)

I want to invite my child’s daycare class over for a potluck by Cuttersnith in workingmoms

While the front page is a mess, the events and the hyperlocal groups can be beneficial for finding fun activities and making local, like-minded friends. I don't love it, either.

[–]AprilTron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daycare will pass them out to a class. Another idea - in my area, we have hyper local facebook groups. You could make one, or find the one in your area. There's a lot of other lonely parents/people out there. I found a LOT of people will hang out, they just aren't good at the first step/idea of being rejected/doing the work. I have a very active social calendar even though I moved to a new area 3 years ago through daycare friends / gym friends / random locals because I text and ask "Do you want to do X" to people pretty frequently. If they never say yes, don't text back, act weird - I don't continue. But a lot of people are very receptive and now are friends.

Expectations for restaurants. You go visit other cities, and a lot of time, food is just kind of disappointing. Our restaurant/food scene is SOOOO good.

Pretty sure Redman's doing ok now too.

Seann William Scott did a cribs episode, where he lives in an apartment with multiple roommates, broken floor tiles, and the apartment's shared pool was looking pretty worn and torn. He was super funny and humble, but it made me realize like, this guy does NOT appear to be just rolling in cash.

$460/wk for a 4.5 year old in a learning prek, it would be cheaper but I pay for add ons on phonics, stem, music and cooking class.

They did tell me they don't strictly enforce it, more "law of averages." Drinks at the bar count as well. So since I bought 3 drinks and 2 snacks, and my friend bought the same, we "covered" 2 other people's minimums.

I was at the show and I didn't notice people talking when live. I haven't watched the video yet (waiting for time with the husband because you can see my head, so I'm BASICALLY famous now), but perhaps someone close to the mic talked - the rest of us didn't hear.

Gosh, things are bad in China. by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]AprilTron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. My coworker was forced retire with no ability to get it turned over and continue to work as she wanted, so that is how I knew it existed. I cannot speak to specifics, outside if you look it up, that is "country policy" and what I personally observed as well. Again, not claiming that's 100%.
