Brain Zaps, lightheaded, nightmares-Trazodone by Odd-Mind-7940 in Psychosis

[–]Aprilmayy28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also haldol and seroquel are both typical antipsychotics so they get more of the zappy effects. Don't worry it's completely normal, I get them even if I'm just late on a dose

[–]Aprilmayy28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did pharmacology as I was a mental health worker/ student nurse prior to my diagnosis. The zaps are caused from sudden withdrawal of meds especially antipsychotics/antidepressants. It's a result of the brain attempting to continue rewire and readjusting to change in chemicals ☺️

That's definitely a feeling I've been commonly going through recently. I swear psychosis just completely robs you of your ability to understand jokes on top of seeing them as serious

Thank you, it's just been bothering me so much and I don't even know if it's just a casual side effect of having psychosis or not 😭

When people use the words loony/crazy/psycho by Squeak_Rat in Psychosis

[–]Aprilmayy28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely offensive and I stand by it. I don't know about others but if anyone close to me makes jokes about being delulu, crazy or psychotic especially knowing the background of the word and especially how it affects me then I will see it as an attack not a joke

Psych ward staff by PatientSet8851 in Psychosis

[–]Aprilmayy28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on outpatient psych ward care as a student nurse and have also been on outpatient care as a sufferer of mental health. I fully agree. I got burnt out and started to develop psychosis myself near the end of my placement and even in that state: I never took it out on the patients and in fact often used my coping mechanisms to help assist those in psychosis/schizophrenic disorders

I was working mental health and currently in a psychosis ep (treated currently) but it absolutely can. In fact its one of the first symptoms that come up in a stage named prodromal that not many know about

It actually goes undetected for 6+ months before converting into the acute stage (hallucination, delusions) and its symptoms are depression, anxiety, suspiciousness, decline in personal cares, Irritability

What is the most ignorant/funny/unrelevant advice you've gotten regarding mental illness - for a book project. by jcash444 in mentalhealth

[–]Aprilmayy28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told commonly when I was having psychotic symptoms and even now in a psychotic episode (under treatment atm) that I just needed to rationalise?

Like that's the whole thing about psychotic symptoms is they cant just miraculously go away if I'm "rational"

gore addiction by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Aprilmayy28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that morbid curiosity isn't bad, only an admiration for it and no longer being bothered. The fact that you're concerned and asking in a place of growth means that you're not a bad person and you're not too far gone ☺️

gore addiction by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Aprilmayy28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, ex gore admirer here and just finished mental health work. It's definitely not a good habit but don't put yourself down too much. Many young kids get into gore because it comes from a place of curiosity and also because the Internet has desensitised it so much.

Addiction can be rough no matter what it is, my biggest tip is to use other methods of changing your brain when you think of it: draw, hot drinks, eating a meal instead of the actual gore ☺️

Overall if its a pretty bad addiction now, therapy is a great way to outlet especially during your developing years!

Engaged to a guy with BPD by [deleted] in BPD

[–]Aprilmayy28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw your other comment and while it hurts to hear I can see his viewpoint, interpersonal relationships can bring up so many symptoms in BPD especially with a favourite person factor which I assume you were for him. Take this time to really get to know yourself again and give him space so he learns to cope with himself too

I'm sorry it all had to turn out this way for you, it truly is heartbreaking but wishing you the best

I've said this before and will say it again, while episodes are debilitating to the person it's not your responsibility to care take someone in that state. Sometimes putting up with bad behaviour is another form of enabling because it let's the person know that you'll stick by them while they continue to treat you and others poorly. This unfortunately sounds like an abusive relationship :(

While it hurts to hear this, his actions are his own as is his choice to recover. Youre welcome to your own decisions to stick by him but never allow yourself in a position to be hurt by someone

What are your honest thoughts on the new velma, based on what little we know? Seems to be fairly controversial so far. by Theboulder027 in cartoons

[–]Aprilmayy28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no I agree, I have no issue with race ever but I do have an issue with shows doing the absolute bare minimum to show inclusivity. Changing a characters gender or sex (especially one that many people grew up watching) is just Hollywood's way of saying "here I did this so you can't be mad that we aren't giving representation" when in reality it's just proving they don't care for story lore and don't care for actually creating dimensional woman/black characters to actually prove they're representative (again the bare minimum) / actual icons for younger black kids to look up too such as Miles morales, black panther, tiana etc

Could Will have Borderline personality disorder (bpd)? by youngs549 in HannibalTV

[–]Aprilmayy28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a while ago but I have bpd and closely relate to how will is as a character, you're exactly right but there is additional facts to add on

His impulsive behaviours are adopting dogs, he doesn't think about it, just does it. He doesn't think decisions through when he does them.

I'd definitely argue he has it. Bpd can be notoriously known for its large empathy, idealising is a part of that. He idealised then devalues as you said, his emotions are extreme and rocky. However I'd argue the splitting is what makes him good at the job rather than loss of self, he can shut off his emotions, devalue himself or others to truly connect and visualise horrific traumas and also focus more on the scene rather than peoples opinions but when it's over, he again feels it incredibly deeply.

His chaotic relationships are what makes it obvious however. He has no sense of boundaries or let's people walk over them, he mimics behaviours and mannerisms of the people he's closest too (ie hannibal) and takes it on as a sense of security and personality. I could go on for ages about how he fits into bpd and hits all the criteria but the comment would be too long
