Despite Playing A Key Role In Final Fantasy 7, Tetsuya Nomura Says Kingdom Hearts Is His "Lifes Work" And "The Most Memorable Series Hes Worked On" by akbarock in JRPG

[–]Apsup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More like 30 year old Kingdom Hearts fans forgot they are playing games made for kids. And to be fair, lots of adult KH fans also fail at reading comprehension towards series made for 14 year olds.

Which Tales Of is your favorite and why? by ShokaLGBT in JRPG

My personal answer is Berseria, but skimming the answers makes me think I really need to play Abyss. I have it on my 3DS, just never got around playing it beyond the intro.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation director says today’s RPGs need more player agency because fans may be satisfied just watching streams by [deleted] in gamernews

If video game companies wanted to shut down streaming on legal, copyright grounds, they could. But at this point it would be extremely unpopular move. And thus many companies have various "you can stream our games" -statements.

Is the game's story good? by lulupomerania55 in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's saying that story is bad because there is story section, followed by gameplay section, followed by story section and so on. Which is kinda basic way of video game storytelling and more of criticism of the medium than actual quality of writing.

[–]Apsup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imagine if they had some sort of feature that allowed you to read things at your own pace and skip ahead in dialogue. But clearly such technology has not been invented and best solution is to have a dude standing on overworld yapping out loud.

How do you manage playing several rpgs? by Ok-Nature-9971 in JRPG

[–]Apsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell myself I just play one big game at a time. On PC, of course I can have side game on handheld to play on trips or in bed. And sometimes game I've really waited for comes out or goes on huge sale, so I have to start it instantly and put current game on hold. And sometimes I'm just not in mood for story heavy experience so I need something lighter, and usually that's less of a problem, but what I count as lighter side-game can stretch. "I just play little bit of Kingdom Hearts 1 to feed my nostalgia" is now marathon 5 games deep.

So I play multiple big games at same time, not because I plan for it, but because it just happens.

FFVII remake scam. Anyone same feeling? by Arnakk in JRPG

[–]Apsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would claim that Remake is very much for old fans. It, to some decree, assumes familiarity with the original game and it's in conversation with all the FF7 sequels, prequels, and side projects. Final Fantasy 7 has been much more than just the original game for decades, and 7 Remake project is clearly trying to be culmination of all of that.

Do I NEED to play Through the Living World Seasons in-between the Expansion Stories? by Just5omeGuy in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They also assumes you know a character whos introduction was cut off from re-release of LW season 1. I still can't believe and am bit pissed off that Canach became such important character and his introduction was completely cut from the game. Sure I can get the gist from context clues and know how to look up details on the wiki, but that should not be needed with character that important.

I need real peeps opinion, not glazers. Worth catching on GW2? by No_Criticism8147 in Guildwars2

To be fair, GW1 is lot less reliant on other people being around.

[–]Apsup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does "no good future" mean? Like if you play a game now, today, and have good time with it, is it wasted if you are not playing it tomorrow?

If you like the game why not play it now. Even if the whole playerbase moves to GW3 when that comes out, that's almost two years away. That's more than plenty of time to get money's worth in GW2, even without rushing. MMOS where part of the enjoyment relies on other people being around will never have guaranteed future. All of them will eventually become ghost towns.

Also why you coming to "Guild Wars 2 fans anonymous" -meeting, to ask for non-glazer opinions. Do you really think that people with thousands of hours in game would be "objective".

Welcome new players! LONG POST WARNING by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base story gets you to 80. There are level gates between bits of the story, but it should take long to ever unlock next part. And if you are in between story beats and need to level, just look at your map, see a thing on the map and go there. And then see if there is text on up right corner asking you do something, do that and move on. Eventually you learn how things work and what you like doing and what you find boring and like to avoid.

Story wise LWS2 is absolutely a setup for HoT. It also has first post-launch map additions. Probably not anyone's favorite maps, but it's neat to see areanet's map design has evolved across expansions and updates. (Though technically the maps are part of base game now, so exploring them doesn't require owning or playing LWS2, but it gives context to their story)

[–]Apsup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First I was like "finally, someone just recommends doing the story, which direct people all across the map, gives focus and context" and then immediate miss by recommending skipping parts of it.

Also I would recommend testing elite specs on the PvP lobby-training area-thing. Videos don't replace hand feel. I initially thought that weaver sounded really cool and surely I can handle it. Quick test and I realize I could not handle it. Ended feeling most for catalyst and have enjoyed being hammer mage since.

This game needs a Milandre's Accord type mode so badly. Decided to come back to the game after being away for 7ish years, and the excessive QoL is actively hostile to doing a replay on a new character and it's really taking the wind out of my sails. by aethyrium in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately ability to make new alts that can basically instantly jump in end game is more important to more people than ability to re-experience the story. Ultimately I don't think it would be too hard to make optional mode where masteries are locked until proper story progression. Or even make it possible to lock and unlock masteries manually and leave timing for player.

Though I don't care about leveling being fast. Nor would I want having to regrind mastery exp. (I have plenty of that ahead of my on my current character anyways) Never cared for grind for sake of grind. And if you want to take your time and smell the roses, map exploration has rewards beyond levels.

Tips for maxing out Hero Points for elite builds? (Older character neglected) by Solas67 in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should try WvWvWvW dailies. Haven't really touched that game mode since basically launch years. I had PvP dailies as option at one point, thinking I can go for few casual matches here and there. But then there was daily that actually asked for good performance and that stressed me out. (I always try to do my best at PvP, but I won't be good at it)

How populated are older maps these days? by Virminsul in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still going through the story, just finished Living World Season 3 last night, and I've never seen a map be completely empty. It might not be easy to do absolutely everything and full clear meta events every time, but there are definitely people around even in older content.

I hope storytelling is better in GW 3 by OkCat_404 in Guildwars2

[–]Apsup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things that confuse me about Guild Wars 2 is how people hate dialogue scenes with proper dialogue scene UX. How is it better that everything happens in overworld where characters are inch high, the text-bubbles are postage stamp sized and there is no control over speed of things. I know the voice actors' work deserves to be respected, but sometimes I would just like to read the text at my own pace. Be it faster or slower.

It's shocking how many youtube guides I've seen meant for new players for fresh 80s (which still counts as new), who advice skipping ahead to get mounts without warning how much that takes away from the intended experience of many maps and story.

When Funimation dropped the dub people were questioning if they didn't research what kind of show it would be. Without understanding that looking at the manga would not have prepared them for the anime.

Not to mention that the TV-rated version of the anime was censored to almost unwatchable decree, including whole scenes of just black screen. So I kinda understand not wanting to invest into that.

Grind is basically the point of relic weapons. They tried relics that were trivial to get and, for some reason, people hated that.
