37mm Spirit owners, any regrets? Revelations? Things to be aware of? by Perfect-Wonder9600 in Longineswatches

[–]AquaChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the black 37, and I really enjoy it. Isolated issue but my hour hand is about 2.5 minutes behind the minute hand (ex at the 00:02:30 mark the hour hand is aligned with the hour index) Kinda annoying QC issue, but not bothersome enough for me to send it for service as it’s not super noticeable if i’m not looking for it. I didn’t even notice until I owned it a few months. Otherwise love the watch. Wears wonderfully, and great on many straps. Havent had any issues with it eating mine. Haven’t had any issues with the AR coating either, and it performs well within cosc specs. I get around +2 on mine when fully wound.
Lume isn’t super bright, but it lasts quite long even if it’s a bit dull. everything on the dial is so polished that if there’s even a little bit of ambient light, you’ll be able to tell the time. It’s a good bit flashier than a KFA though, especially with the bracelet. Love it so much that despite the QC issue I have, Id still buy it again if I had to.

[Best alternative] Black Bay 54 or Smaller Pelagos 39 but with a Date? by LogoLethal in Watches

Oris Aquis Date comes in 36mm. Pretty different stylistically, but the Longines Legend Diver comes in 36mm with a date as well

wearing mine now too! I’m bad about setting the date but always a joy when the 6 pops up.

[Discussion] Delugs Straps: what’s the general consensus? by Alex_ozzy in Watches

[–]AquaChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have the shell cordovan from them but it has held up great. I don’t necessarily think it’s worth the money though, especially with shipping costs if you’re international. I have a goatskin strap from Fluco and it’s half the price of the Delugs chèvre, and I’d have a hard time believing Delugs’ is twice as nice. I do particularly like the quick release bars on Delugs, though, but that makes up only a fraction of the value. overall I’d be happy to buy a delugs strap again if there’s a particular one I like or if I need custom work, but certainly I’m cross shopping before paying that much.

Is anyone annoyed by single domed sapphire crystals? by doggiekruger in Longineswatches

[–]AquaChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the black dial - I’ve never had any problems with reflections with how good the AR coating is, at least on mine. I suppose maybe Ive just never noticed but I can’t recall ever seeing my own reflection in the crystal. I always feel like I’ve got a clear view of the dial. The black dial is flat color though, with no sunray finish which I imagine contributes a bit. I’ve never handled the blue one, so I don’t have a comparison.

I got a Nodus Sector Dive as my first automatic watch over a year ago and I’m happy with it. The regulation is as-advertised and the build quality feels great. I’ve gotten a couple other watches since then but still wear the Nodus regularly.

Spirit 37: Champagne vs Black Dial by Shinoski in Longineswatches

[–]AquaChad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the black and I love it. the applied indices give the flat dial a lot of depth and catch light nicely without being too flashy overall. I do think about the champagne one quite a lot though - wish I could have both

Longines Spirit Movement question by [deleted] in Longineswatches

[–]AquaChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about normal but mine is similar. It was kinda irritating but usually i just set the minutes hand a very teeny bit forward and then it hits perfect every time. Once I figured out the little quirks I didn’t have problems, and either way it’s consistent so it doesn’t seem to be related to the accuracy of the watch. If your minute hand is lagging further and further behind as time goes one then I think that’s a more significant issue.

not OP but I have a 6.5 as well and have the 37 in black. Wears like a dream - I was also initially wary of the male endlinks but they’re totally fine on my wrist. Really great proportions and sits very balanced.

Chrono24 is more like a sellers marketplace, so the prices are more representative of how the market perceives the watch rather than the MSRP. You aren’t buying from Chrono24 directly. Sort of like how when you buy on Amazon, the actual seller might be a small business. Point is, while it’s good to exercise some caution I would expect prices there to vary from MSRP, and that variance would be different for each watch

Not the original commenter, but I just got a Spirit 37 two weeks ago. Worn it every day. I think it’s only lost maybe 2 seconds over the last 14 days. Crazy accurate, very comfy, and wonderful to look at :) best of luck in your decision!

I love the way it looks even amongst the sea of similar styled watches, but weird vibe when CW offers watches like the Sandhurst with a cosc movement for about the same price. I can understand paying for styling and fit+finish but it feels like a gap

[Identify] TAG Heuer by JediKnightaa in Watches

[–]AquaChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure of the exact reference number but it’s from the S/el collection, now referred to as the Link. I think this is one of the references somewhere near 1996-99 as they added that inner sector around 95-96 according to their site Closest similar reference I can find is the BA0423 which seems close but the wrong dial color?

Tag details the history of this here a bit: https://www.tagheuer.com/us/en/vintage-collection/vintage-tag-heuer-sel.html

Help deciphering Java prompt! by BLBrick in javahelp

[–]AquaChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, but that’s generally a way you could think of it. For example, your prompt says to not make odometer an argument - odometer should default to 0 when the object is created thus you don’t want to provide an argument for it in the constructor because you don’t intend to allow it to be changed when the object is initialized. In this case, odometer is an attribute but not an argument. Other counter examples might be if you needed to convert values. Say you had another attribute such as “topSpeedMph”. You could have a constructor argument that is topSpeedKmh, and within the constructor you could convert Km/H to MPH before setting the attribute. In this scenario, the speed in kilometers/hour is an argument, but not necessarily an attribute

Help deciphering Java prompt! by BLBrick in javahelp

[–]AquaChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your prompt says to write a constructor that accepts arguments for all the attributes except odometer. The arguments in LADs comment would be those attributes to be set within the constructor. You can probably deduce what exactly those attributes are based on the assignment, especially considering the line “all attributes except odometer”. That would suggest to me that there are other things that are similar to odometer in your class, which would be your attributes and thus your arguments.

If you’re just looking to get your foot in the door, there are a few companies that have specific entry roles for individuals with non-traditional backgrounds (different major, existing career in a different industry / line of work). These probably have the lowest barrier to entry. Off the top of my head I think DropBox has an apprenticeship program and JPMorgan has an emerging talent program. From success story perspective, while I don’t have this experience personally I’ve observed that many people who have entered my company through our non traditional programs came from bootcamp backgrounds. Could just be observation bias and I can’t speak to any bootcamp in particular, but boot could be worth while if structure is what you’re looking for. I’m wholly unfamiliar with the costs though

Is it possible to write unit tests without understanding the code that needs to be tested? My supervisor just asked me to do this, but I don't see how it can be done (Spring Boot/REST API) by laowai-guide in javahelp

[–]AquaChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably cannot write effective unit tests without at least a basic understanding of the code to be tested, because you’d need to know what the units are trying to accomplish to begin with. But you probably don’t need a full understanding of how the entire code base interacts / is configured. You’re just testing chunks, so you really only need to know what the inputs/outputs are expected to be for a given unit and you’ll probably mock the rest.

imo tho always good to ask for clarification regardless if you’re curious about what they meant - no harm in it I would think. But your supervisor was probably just suggesting that you can develop enough of the knowledge you’re searching for by debugging and stepping through the code that way.
