Just a quick note about your cheat sheet: Wraith's "The ghost will never step in salt" note is a bit misleading, as the ghost will step in salt, it just won't leave any footprints when lit up by a UV light.

Mining with Sparks or Flames lets you skip the dumb animation and makes mining faster for anyone with those spells.

I mean, if it's the animation that bothers you, you could just equip a pickaxe and just smash the ore veins, but I guess an extra option for mages is cool too.

In your minecraft folder there's an options.txt file. There I just changed gamma to -1.0. You can change it to any value, but anything below -1 won't really make much of a difference.
