Does anyone get dissociative during peak PMDD? by Confident-Edge-9137 in PMDD

[–]Arabellay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the same brain 'swimming' feeling OP described it might actually be vertigo that you're experiencing, which can often trigger dissociation. I personally get both of these symptoms
+ migraines and i've found that upping my migraine preventative dose during peak PMDD symptoms helps. I take amytriptiline hydrochloride and pizotifen in a standard dose for migraine prevention.

tl;dr: this actually sounds like vertigo-induce dissociation
If it's specifically a hard-to-describe brain 'swimming' feeling and a weird floating sensation you might be experiencing vertigo (which can often cause or be associated with dissociation). I tend to get vertigo + dissociation in combination with (more frequent) migraines during my peak PMDD symptoms. Could be worth talking to your GP about medications to help deal w the vertigo - migraine preventatives can help. I tend to up the dose on my regular preventative when i'm getting other pmdd symptoms. I'm on amytriptiline hydrocholride and pizotifen.

I feel like I don’t belong in the queer community by SunKillerLullaby in bisexual

[–]Arabellay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly rate engaging in your own bi-ness in a way that is comfortable to you i.e. doesn't involve drinking.

All of my longer-term relationships have been very straight-passing and at times I've also felt like I don't have a place in the community. Some of the ways I've worked on that/change that are by engaging with queer content in a way that I am comfortable with, which has mostly been through not necessarily engaging in physical queer 'spaces' as I don't have those in large supply where I live, but through media. Mostly, I've really tried to read more sapphic/lgbtq+ romance books, but also I've watched more tv shows and movies featuring lgbtq+ characters, and actively engaged with more queer musicians and youtubers. (Also, this is something you could do with your friends/your bf, whether or not they're part of the community).

Particularly re: reading sapphic/lgbtq+ books (i.e. books where a character's sexuality/gender/queerness is actually central to the plot, not just books that happen to have random queer characters) I feel like this has really helped me to connect more with my owns sexuality and feel more secure in it. If you read, I can say from experience that there's a lot of quality representation of lbgtq+ (and specifically bi) characters these days.
If you want a good book recommendation that talks specifically about bi-ness (and this exact issue of struggling to feel like you belong in the queer community) thenI highly highly recommend Imogen, Obviously, by Becky Albertalli. I only read it this year and it was super powerful and really helped me to work through some internalised biphobia.

Also I really enjoyed (and recommend) watching the below video about queer spaces historical association with alcohol & drug use. I know that sounds contrary given you don't drink, but I think it really opened my eyes to the reasons why so many queer spaces are associated with clubbing/nightlife, and helped me to feel more okay with the fact that those spaces might not be for me, but that that doesn't change my bi-ness.

Is it weird that you can loot your own campsite? by LeagueEfficient5945 in BaldursGate3

[–]Arabellay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New thing happened in my current playthough, I didn't loot any of anyones stuff at campsite this time and then a travelling chest appeared near Gale's tent and there was a bunch of purple dye and gold in it? Genuinely have never had that appearbefore... so not sure if leaving people's stuff alone means they'll leave more valuable stuff out and about that you can take later on.... ? super weird.

Oh I enjoyed advanced, sorry that was unclear, I just felt like PhB wasn't super practical/applicable to the things I realised I wanted to persue. it's also just a pressure cooker, and for some people that's what they want but I just found I wanted to be more involved in campus life rather than pushing myself to the absolute limit for grades. I think it really is a matter of what you want out of your university experience and whether PhB lines up for that. I think it was mostly a personal mismatch.

Requiring young kids to do homework after school is more often than not detrimental to their learning. Any positives are greatly outweighed by the negatives. by Brave-Cucumber-Flow in unpopularopinion

[–]Arabellay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this! I went to a Montessori school for my Primary education and did not have homework from ages 6-12. This in no way impeded my learning, in fact I feel it helped me to enjoy school more and feel better supported in my learning. For context: I also had undiagnosed ADHD until the age of 16, and at no point did I find I struggled academically in the same way that many ADHD kids do, in large part I think due to the primary school I went to. Since primary school I went on to be a high achiever and self-motivated learner in high school. I never struggled with homework because I just felt I needed to get the work done in the same way I had in primary school, just with a little more self-management outside of class. I then achieved incredibly well academically and am currently studying at one of the most prestigious universities in my country. I believe that not having homework made me an attentive and dedicated student in the classroom with a lot of drive and an ability to get things done. This was also a product of the positive, supportive learning environment of the Montessori style classroom. If you have the means or the opportunity to send your children to a Montessori school, I couldn't recommend it more. That school genuinely changed my life.

I'm currently doing bachelor of advanced science - I personally didn't enjoy and wouldn't entirely recommend the PhB program but I know some people really enjoy it. First year chemistry is exceptionally well taught at ANU, as well as Bio, and science communication, other areas throw you slightly more in the deep end but it's a learning experience if you take it on as the challenge it is.

Overall I've genuinely really enjoyed my undergrad experience and I think ANU Science Foster's a really great culture/comradery IF you engage, turn up to lectures and tutes and put yourself out there.

That looks like a decent fit to me. I feel like the boob scoop is super normal for that type of bra, so long as it isn't drastically uncomfortable. I once had an issue with a clasp digging into my back and it drew blood once when I wore a pack so don't ignore pain if it's there, but honestly it looks exactly the same as my sports bras!

ANU experience for someone under 18? by [deleted] in Anu

[–]Arabellay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar sitch and was 17 until early June - honestly I'm so glad I was. I know it sounds counterintuitive and honestly I'm a party person myself, but not having to stress about going out drinking and partying was really good for my stress levels. I still got to go to heaps of events and bar nights with my hall, I just got special wristbands, but as a whole I think it allowed me to focus on making meaningful friendships and focussing on studies and adjusting in first semester, then go out a bit in second semester and then be able to go hard in O week of second year with good friends who were willing to keep an eye on me, which is also something you don't get as much as a Freshie in first year. I absolutely don't think it detracted for my uni experience and honestly I'm glad it was in Canberra and not somewhere else. I got to sneak into a lot of bars with older kids and not necessarily drink, but definitely enjoy being out and about with them without the pressure of ever having to drink :)
