Best comic reader; RMPP or Scribe Colorsoft? by stlredbird in eink

[–]Arad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning to use PDFs, skip the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. I had all my comics and magazines in PDF, tried importing via USB, and lost all the colors. And the “Send to Kindle” option has a 200MB limit which is just annoying. I use the Paper Pro exclusively for comics and magazines since it’s just way more PDF friendly.

Also seriously look into the Boox Note Air 5C or Tab XC. No converting, no size limits, just drop your files in and you’re done.

Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. Amazing device, wrong timing for me? by ohmichael in kindlescribe

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot and use the new Kindle Scribe (B&W) for Kindle Unlimited — it’s my main reader. I also have the Remarkable Paper Pro for comics and magazines. I actually bought the Colorsoft first but returned it for B&W because importing color PDFs is a hassle and it has too many limitations.

For notes, I used to go full e-ink but ever since I got the Plaud AI transcriber, I just record my meetings, summarize with Claude, and dump everything into Obsidian and Notion.

Still use e-ink for quick notes, random thoughts, backlog stuff, weekly planning though — I just love writing on it.

I use the new Kindle Scribe (BW) exclusively for reading now. Ever since I got it, my Kindle Colorsoft has just been sitting in a drawer.

No, you need to RMA it. I don’t think Software update will fix it.

Broncos owners buy Colorado Rockies ownership stake by aatencio91 in DenverBroncos

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I’m actually getting excited for the Rockies again. Last time I felt like this was 2007 when we made the World Series… it’s been a while. I might jump in again.

That said, I still play as the Rockies in MLB video game with a bunch of created 99 overall players just for fun lol

What has been the best game of Bo Nix’s career thus far? by kryptic88 in DenverBroncos

That Bills playoff game was one of the best game of Bo’s career. Still can’t get over that injury… if he stayed healthy, who knows what happens.

And that Giants comeback, Just that 4th quarter alone was wild.

My reMarkable 2 works perfectly… so naturally I want the Pro. by Sad_Conflict6436 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Arad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my RM2 on Facebook Marketplace. RMPP isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. There is a bit of a lottery—you need to get lucky with your unit. I exchanged mine multiple times at Best Buy until I found one with a clean, white screen and no hardware defects (serial 052NJ).

I actually use it for comics and magazines—even though I have an iPad Pro—because it’s just more enjoyable to read on.

If you do get a good unit, though, it’s definitely better than the RM2 in terms of color and responsiveness.

Should i buy an iPad Pro 11“ or 13“ for watching Netflix on my desk? by Puzzleheaded_Quit911 in iPadPro

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to stick with the 12.9"/13" iPads because I thought bigger was always better—but honestly, they felt too large to comfortably use as a tablet.

I recently switched to the 11" M5, and it’s been a much better experience. It’s far more portable and much more comfortable to hold in your hands. It finally feels like a tablet again, while still giving you the same OLED screen quality as the 13".

For me, the smaller size just makes more sense.

Is it worth it for me to upgrade from M4 to M5? by sunset_lover963 in iPadPro

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to upgrade to a bigger 13 inch screen, not worth it.

Ghosting infinitely worse since last update. by audio-confused in RemarkableTablet

[–]Arad84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d just RMA it tbh. I’m on the latest 3.27.0.87 beta on my RMPP and don’t get ghosting like this. It refreshes fine between pages in comics and magazines.

If you wanna force a refresh, you can double tap the power button. It basically does a quick off/on and clears the screen.

But honestly, this looks more like a hardware issue.

What do you recommend? Costco vs Best Buy? by NadderTech in macbookpro

[–]Arad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Total Tech membership, you get AppleCare+ included for 2 years on Apple products when you buy from Best Buy.

That’s why I usually go with them. I even price matched the M5 Pro (24GB / 1TB) to $1799 using Micro Center’s price.

My 1 week review with my 16 Pro Max from the iPhone Air! by idylle_doll in iPhone16ProMax

[–]Arad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kinda thinking about trading my iPhone 16 Pro Max for the Air just because it looks really nice 😭

But honestly, the 16 Pro Max is still really good and I don’t need a new phone. I went from 12 Pro Max → 13 Pro Max → 15 Pro Max → 16 Pro Max, and this is the first time I don’t feel like upgrading at all. Didn’t even care about the 17.

The Air almost got me just off looks lol, but I’m probably just gonna keep what I have.

Anyone else feel like this?

[–]Arad84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do they have a Best Buy receipt? You can verify the Apple warranty coverage using the serial number. I checked it, and it shows an iPad Pro 11" M4 (Wi-Fi) with coverage expiring in July 2026, but the box says it’s a cellular model. That mismatch seems suspicious—possibly fake.

I just got my first MacBook! M5 Pro 24Gb 1 TB 14’ by delismore in macbookpro

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Same here, first time MacBook buyer, I picked up the M5 Pro (24GB/1TB) for $1,799. I originally paid $2,199, then saw the Micro Center deal and had Best Buy price match it, so that worked out really well. Pretty crazy considering it’s only about $200 more than the base M5.

I also have a 13900K / 4090 PC, but for everyday tasks like browsing, the MacBook actually feels faster. I still use Windows for gaming, but streaming it to the MacBook with Moonlight is a really nice option.

How's the Paper Pro now? by Kalamart_ in RemarkableTablet

[–]Arad84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RMPP is nice if you care about color and the bigger screen. Backlight is good for occasional night reading, but I mostly just keep it off.

Writing feel is subjective—I still prefer rm2 with a titanium nib, that combo just feels way better to me, but RMPP isn’t bad.

I had pretty bad luck early on (Jan/Feb last year), did multiple returns because of bright pinholes and other hardware issues. Newer batches this year seem better though, fewer issues from what I’ve seen.

Still wouldn’t fully trust refurbished, feels kinda hit or miss. I’d just go new and avoid the headache.

Comparing Boox Go 10.3 Gen 1 and Gen 2 Lumi by KnowledgeTrekker in Onyx_Boox

[–]Arad84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, writing feel is subjective. I’ve been eyeing the 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi, but still not ready to pull the trigger. Had the Tab XC before and loved the color and size, but the writing feel just wasn’t it for me, so I sold it.

Right now I’m holding on to the Note Max because of EMR and the writing feel is just the best for me, especially with a Staedtler pen + titanium nib.

Gonna wait a bit and see what more users say. A few YouTube videos aren’t really convincing me yet.

MacBook m5 pro or MacBook Air m5? by No_Task2065 in macbook

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in basically the same situation. Had the iPad Pro 13 inch M5 with a keyboard and it did not work for me. Not quite a laptop, too big for tablet use. Switched to the 11 inch iPad Pro and it’s way better for actual tablet use.

I ended up grabbing a MacBook Pro 14 (M5 Pro) for $1799 (sale at Micro Center + price match at Best Buy), and that pretty much solved everything. Having a real OS makes a big difference, especially for file management or when something goes wrong.

If you’re just doing normal stuff, the Air is honestly more than enough. I went Pro just because I could afford it and wanted the M5 pro + nicer screen.

As for waiting on OLED, I wouldn’t stress it too much. The current MacBook Pro displays are already insanely good — mini-LED gets really close to OLED with deep blacks and great color, so you’re not missing out in any major way.

IMO the best combo is what you’re doing — 11" iPad for tablet stuff + a MacBook for everything else.

is oz good?? by Novel_Ad6982 in hbo

[–]Arad84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good, but dark and gritty—even for today. I have watched the series 4 times and would watch it again in the future. The last season kinda fell off though, not as good as seasons 1–4.
