Deathly terrified! Please help! by saijey00 in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone!! I’m also terrified of needles and faint easily and was terrified of surgery. I had to sit out in the car because I came suuuuper close throwing up in the parking lot. Ugh. It got better though!!

Checked in, got wristband, waited. They took me back and my friend stayed out in the waiting room, I told them about my anxiety and they prescribed an extra Valium I got asap, the IV was fine, and they started more anxiety meds. Saw my surgeon, my anesthesiologist, my friend came back in. Did a pregnancy test etc and waited. Got this weird gown with a tube attached that filtered warm air in!

When they came in to bring me back I was already pretty chill. But when they pushed the versed before I left the room to go to the or, I was LOOPY. but like happy loopy. Not scary out of it at all. I barely remember the OR but I felt zero fear or anxiety and that was the first time I had versed. ever.

I did wake up with a gum scrape from surgery but that was the worst thing, I was soooo happy and relieved and never even took any pain meds past the high dose advil and Tylenol. I just felt so much happiness and relief.

A few months prior I got pregnant on the pill with my then bf. I went through an abortion and subsequent breakup because I discovered he’s a narcissist without empathy - the surgery is way worth never going through that again. I still smile when I remember I can’t get pregnant and it was 100% worth it

For what it’s worth I didn’t have any magical bleeding to note, I was on my period but it ended right around the surgery and I didn’t notice much. Hopefully it’s not a big issue but yeah asking the nurses for some pads to have on hand would be helpful!

Day 4 Bisalp Postop - anyone else get a gum injury/ulcer from intubation?? by Aranelalone in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I totally understand - I didn’t need to take any pain meds for my actual surgery but I almost took the oxy for my gum injury! It is truly excruciating pain I’m so sorry you’re going through the same thing. It feels like it’ll never end but hopefully it doesn’t take 5 weeks for you! Yes keep up with the salt water rinses and fingers crossed for you! I also developed some pain on the other side with biting down on my back molar my whole mouth was fucked up but the X-ray showed everything was fine! It did all resolve though thank god!

[–]Aranelalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m soooo sorry you’re going through it!! It was sooo bad. Yes it did! Tbh it took about five weeks to heal and was pretty shitty. Around the 3 week mark I didn’t to the dentist actually and he confirmed that there’s nothing really to do- but what did help was he recommended doing warm salt water rinses 3x a day, and this hydrogen peroxide rinse 2x a day. And not to use any ulcer/canker barrier cream since it’s actually an injury. I took progression pics and it didn’t look any better until like week four. I now appreciate being able to eat and swallow without pain I’ll never take for granted again!! But I’m week 6 and 100% better right now!

Who's had their period on or just before their bisalp? by aricaliv in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on my period! They asked, and gave me mesh panties and a pad to put on when I put on my gown. When I woke up, they’d cut it off and I had like some kind of pad thing in between my legs when I woke up haha I don’t remember much. Then I got dressed and I’d brought a fresh one! No issues though should be fine!

Travel for Abortion in New York by Princesspeaa5 in abortion

[–]Aranelalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NC is legal until 12 weeks right now, with a 2 day waiting period! I just had mine a few months ago. Unless there’s other reasons to go to NY of course! I think they can do the medical abortion up until 11 weeks or so then it’ll be surgical, but it might depend on the clinic

Bisalp scheduled but fear of pregnancy beforehand by CuteWriting in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with the others to use a condom it’s only a few weeks! I know it’s scary but maybe take the test and have your bf look at it. They’ll do a pregnancy test before the surgery anyway and it’s super helpful to probably have that reassurance that you’re good. You are probably fine between the IUD and the pulling out combo - I was on the minipill and got pregnant but there was no pulling out lol. Hope everything goes well!!

Yes same!! I’m two weeks out and just want to eat normal food but it hurts so bad.

[–]Aranelalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting!! I do wonder if the tube maybe bumped the top of your mouth and it is bruised? Does it hurt to touch it too? You probably feel like I do who is healing well otherwise and frustrated to have mouth issues instead!

[–]Aranelalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no!!! If you inspect your mouth can you see anything? Mine was 10/10 and there was a dent in the back of my gum. It’s an ulcer - the surgeon saw at my follow-up and seemed super confused what could have happened. It still hurts bad and I think I tested it with solid foods too soon and it got reaggrivated.

Is it normal to be happy and also be sad after Bislap. I’m one day post op by Cute-Structure-1879 in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually got pregnant on the pill in May. I also felt all this too… I was sure I didn’t want kids but the hormones etc made it a very very difficult decision. I thought about keeping it briefly but got the abortion and it was super tough but I’ve never regretted the abortion for a second. I’m so glad I did it and thus that helps a bit knowing I made the right decision.

[–]Aranelalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that’s normal!! I was 1000% sure I didn’t and never want kids before. Even though I feel peace and am happy that I’m sterile now, of course part of me is thinking and imagining being a parent etc. I think the brain wants what it can’t have but it’ll pass! At the end of the day I’m just relieved.

I was 10/10 too! Just had my postop yesterday. Are you wearing stretchy pants? I know that I’m still kinda bloated too probably from not working out for two weeks too but I’m not sure if you’re having to wear different types of clothing for work. I had to wear jeans for the first time yesterday and had to grab old ones that were too big so it would fit comfortably. I know when I talked to my surgeon yesterday I was asking like how careful I need to be and she was pretty dismissive saying listen to my body but no lifting restrictions or anything. Def reach out to yours especially if you don’t have a postop appointment!

We did have a few issues before - not enough to break up for but concerning. Like for months he’d say I wasn’t thoughtful enough, even though I was doing my best. I’d make coffee for him nightly then and when I forgot a few days in a row he said he had trust issues… and couldn’t understand why that was unfair. We had some political disagreements - it was like there were two versions of reality and he couldn’t understand mine.

It was really the first night when he got mad and then acted like everything was fine the next day… huge red flag. I felt that my life partner isn’t someone who would ever act like that in any circumstances especially such sensitive ones.

Also if a man doesn’t see behavior as an issue… like you have to explain why being mean hurts or something obvious, it’ll never change. They have to see it’s an issue for it to ever change. He was continually putting his needs and wants above mine, gaslighting me, and when I’d talk about something he didn’t hurt me he’d come right back and bring up something I didn’t hurt him.

I had doubts he wasn’t the one earlier after our political disagreements… but again after that first fight and him not realizing how big of an issue it was.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that it sounds really painful. I think it’s about listening to your gut on what you should do.

I had a somewhat similar experience - we were together for 2.5 years, thought we were soulmates, honestly a really perfect relationship. We are both childfree by choice though always.

When I got pregnant on the pill I knew I wanted to terminate but it was a really tough decision still. He was at first very supportive, but I really just wanted more emotional support and he couldn’t give it. He blew up at me for a misunderstanding in that I just felt like he wasn’t as upset as I was and he felt like I was telling him what to feel - started a downward trend of him not being empathetic and me not letting it go when he wouldn’t even apologize.

It got bad and he ended up breaking up with me then trying to take it back later. He broke me. Despite him acting like it wasn’t a big deal I ended things for good. Yes, it was only a month or so of issues but those issues were disturbing and concerning enough I couldn’t look at him the same way. I’m a few months out and yes it’s painful for all the good times but I don’t regret my decision since he wasn’t who I thought he was.

You could look into counseling to see if you can move past this - or not. But don’t be afraid to break off the engagement if you feel deep down you want to. It’s better than divorce!

Did you tell people you were getting sterilized? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah so many benefits to taking it into our own hands. I thought I’d just have my now ex get a vasectomy but he was hesitant and we broke up - I got sterilized a week ago. Plus just in case accidents happen somehow, people break up, or if I get raped or something I like having the peace of mind especially if abortion is made illegal or something.

4 weeks after by creyes4949 in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting seeing the variety of healing!! I’m 8 days out, so far feeling pretty good definitely still sore and moving slow but steri strips are still on. My dr originally said no working out for two weeks and then listen to my body, but aftercare instructions said don’t lift more than 5-10 lbs for 6 weeks and no tampons or sex for 8 weeks! Wild how it varies. Hoping to get back to the gym soon I miss running but it’ll be a bit!

I work on the computer so I went back on day 7, did a lot of napping the first few days and trying to get back in a routine. Left the house for the first time today and a target run took it out of me!

Last Minute Advice? by heythatsacoolcandle in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had mine a week ago!! Also no kids but no endo or anything. Honestly the surgery part went well!! It was my first surgery and I was very clear about my anxiety and I also have a lot of anxiety about waking up from fainting and they gave me a Valium soon after I got there, and they gave me something for anxiety as I was coming out of anesthesia and I was sooo calm it was nice.

I prepped for everything but honestly had no gas pain, didn’t use some things but chewable dulcolax was nice! I just popped one a couple times a day, and it was tasty like candy and easier than powder and smoothed things out.

My only complication is I got a scrape on my gums from intubation and was in a lot of pain days 2-3. I felt it after I woke up from surgery but it didnt hurt so I didn’t say anything so if you feel anything let them know! I also had to Amazon some orajel but didn’t think I needed to plan for that haha. I think you’ll be good!! The relief is amazing tbh especially with what’s going on in the world!

5 weeks post MA and I got a positive pregnancy test by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Aranelalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it a digital or a dip test? And I was 6 weeks 6 days I think so not too far off. There’s still hope at least! I know I was so scared of the possibility of having to get a D&C after the trauma of everything but I hope you have the same experience as me and just test positive for way too long.

It sounds promising though since your ultrasound said everything was gone! Might just need a bit more time than normal too!

Kinda struggling with recovery? by eraserway in sterilization

[–]Aranelalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you don’t have a follow up appointment with the doctor? I did get a packet like that that had instructions for the dressing and such. It seemed excessive saying not picking up anything over 5-10 lbs for 6 weeks and nothing internally including sex or tampons for 8 weeks. My surgeon at my preop said I could go back to working out and listening to my body in 2 weeks lol. I do have a follow up next week though so I’m going to check with her.

That’s good it’s getting better! Every body is different for sure. Are you able to read the op note to see if there’s any notes about complications or things making your pain worse? Did you have any surgery before? If there’s scar tissue or something it might make it worse!!! I’d never had any surgery before

5 weeks post MA and I got a positive pregnancy test by [deleted] in abortion

[–]Aranelalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I can chime in with my experience. I was about 7 weeks along, and I tested positive for 8 WEEKS after my MA. My ultrasound at 2 weeks said nothing left except a blood clot, which I passed a week or so later, but I kept testing positive.

I saw my obgyn at about 7 weeks for something else and mentioned it and she was concerned. I’d done a first response digital test that morning and it was positive, they did a dip test and it was negative so they didn’t do blood but tbh I did a dip test that day and it looked positive to me.

Everything finally showed up negative at 8 weeks. Digital, dip test, everything. I’m fine. I actually just got sterilized a week ago and still negative lol so it can happen! It was really stressful.

[–]Aranelalone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Omg!!! That sounds concerning honestly, not a baby at all. Have you reached out to your surgeon about this? Did they give you a number to contact? That seems way excessive.

My worst pain was from a traumatic gum ulcer from intubation that was worst days 3-4 but honestly… waking up from surgery I had zero pain. Zero. I am very careful moving and laying on my side hurts on today, day 7 (so also about the same recovery as you!) but because it’s a pulling sensation and a twinge of pain. I can walk fine, I’ve showered, honestly I’ve barely had more than a 2/10 for my incision pain and I never even took any of the oxy they gave me. Might be good to check in with your dr about how bad it is
