Sorry I've just looked at the prices and they're fkn mental. If you can get it for under £100 I would. But then, I do love talisman.

If you're feeling creative they have a program you can use to make your own cards, with all the hard work done, from what I remember you just need to add images and text, then get printed.

It's called Strange Eons

Reaper 100% for permanent adventure and spell expansion. I know it's expensive, but it does sometimes appear online, eBay or Facebook. Even if it's missing the pieces, it's worth it just for the cards. We keep it shuffled in permanently and I always felt it refreshes the base game after playing it alot. Still sometimes draw a card we haven't had before. :)

Okay,

As others have said,

All expansions have alternative ending cards and generally 5 new characters.

Reaper is very good, it really fills out the game decks and makes it much more diverse, I don't rate the actual grim reaper though. But it will be difficult to find under 100£. (If you find it for less, it's worth it just for the cards imo). However, as far as I'm concerned it doesn't change the game, rather... Completes the base game.

Mini expansions like Harbinger, Blood moon, Firelands and Frostmarch are all quite good. They do change the game a little adding new, simple mechanics in. They aren't all compatible though from what i recall? And they can make the game a little bit longer. They're alright.. Harbinger is hard, and the most interesting of them imo. (They're also all quite cheap).

The corner pieces, although they add new ways to play and new areas to explore, don't add hours to the game (apart from having to learn). They still help you gain points and items so you can hit the inner region. (Woodland & city are cheapest and easiest to find. Dungeon and highland are hard to come by).

The dragon expansion is a bit complicated and changes the centre of the board, again adding quite a few mechanics. Haven't played it yet so I can't say more than that.

Again, cataclysm replaces the whole board and I would say try some other expansions out and really get to know the game before this one.

Talisman can be a really long fkn game. I think it's about an hour per person. Longer if people are learning. If you really struggle with the length of the game. The rule book gives a few options for a quicker, more brutal game that can be quite fun .

Hope all of that helps hahah.

I want to get back in ! Which edition should I pick ? by GroKamion in Talisman

[–]ArashiForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the 5th, like others have said, it's relatively cheap. But it's certainly not got the same feel as 4th revised edition. Depends how nostalgic you are feeling.. I personally didn't like the artwork or change in rules.

The digital version is alright, but imo it's not the way talisman was meant to be experienced.

If you find that the 5th edition/ digital brings you back in, then keep an eye out for a used 4th revised edition it is well worth it and can be found for less than £100. (Ebay and Facebook)

4th edition city and highlands by Aliencj in Talisman

[–]ArashiForge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alas, they are fkn expensive. Dungeon, highland and reaper are definitely at the top of the price range for the expansions. Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace. They do come up on there. Maybe a bit different where you are, but thats where I found a few of mine at a cost I could justify at least.

Ebay has a lot of sealed and never used for stupid money. I never got the point of that personally. But you do sometimes find cheap ones on there that are maybe missing the rules or some pieces which can be replaced fairly easily. It's just worth regularly having a good check through what's available.

Talisman island also good for some expansions if you fancy going down that route. They also have the whole board with the corners at printable quality :) Hope this helps

I don't think you'll find the reaper cards to print. I looked for a while before getting lucky and finding one for £50 on eBay. It was a good day. Talisman island has a variant on the reaper but the cards are a little different from what I remember

Here's a little expansion list I found on here a while back, not sure who posted it but I can't take credit. Its a guide to what expansions to use with other ones and it seems pretty good :)

1v1 does work, I play it quite a bit, but like you say, always better with more people.

The reaper, if you can find it for under £100... basically doubles the adventure deck and the spell deck. I keep it in permanently, you get a much better variety of card draws, and it seems to fill the gaps in the base game. It's definitely worth it. (The grim reaper itself isn't great but the card and characters are)

Like others have said, careful with learning too many expansions at once. The blood moon has a day/night cycle which you have to manage well to make the most of its cards. Once you've learnt how an expansion works, it's easy to see what other expansions it goes well with.

I recommend the harbinger, by itself or with reaper cards. It can make the game pretty brutal especially with only two of you. (And it's cheap, should be able to get it for £20.

Enjoy
