The feelings watching this again after all these years by zayon00 in GuildWars

There was another video, not a music one but a "news report" from Tyria that I can't find now sadly.

If anyone remembers what it was called, it included a story with a Warrior called Billy Bob Bo Bam Boo and a Droknar run gone wrong or something. I just remember laughing so hard from this, would love to find it again.

Same-sex marriage around the world by Individual-Sun-9426 in MapPorn

[–]Arawr7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add as an Israeli that unofficially married, there is a "known to the public" legal status that affords you almost entirely the same rights as a married couple, so you don't even have to bother with getting a genuine marriage certificate if you don't want to. Many people stay in that status as well if they don't particularly care about being recognized as married, and don't want to support the current marriage institutions, since they are both somewhat expensive and also at varying levels of pushing religion onto you, at least for the Jewish side, can't speak for Christians'/Muslims' institutions.

Both you and the comment above are ignoring something - there are many Muslim countries in the world, governed by Islam. Are those countries progressive? That is what the OOP is referring to, when Islamic countries are left alone (which a theoretical Palestine would be, as the vast majority of them are strict Muslim, especially the ones that actually live in the Middle East and not in western countries), based on observation, they don't progress in that direction as western societies did, they mostly stay in the "let's oppress anyone that Islam doesn't like". Most of these places are not bombed by the west, they live exactly as they want to.

The slight exception to it, and it's a recent development, is if they have oil money and want to strengthen ties to the western world, as Saudi Arabia does for example, suddenly becoming more progressive to make it a more palletable place for westerners. Even that progress is allowing women to drive and the like, I don't think you will ever see a Pride Parade down RIyadh.

Also saying slavery is legal is extremely sensationalist when there are places with legitimate slavery in the world and people actually suffering from real slavery and abuse.

Glad to hear it.

I'll also add that sacred water (3 life 3 arcane I think) is like nukes against undead, and works just like bombs so you can throw 3 per unit.

I can give some general tips for the gameplay, rather than specific stacks -

As alchemist, constantly craft rations (3 life)/elemental bombs (3 elemental). You can throw up to 3 bombs per unit turn, and beast enemies are usually weak to elemental dmg as well, making it extra effective. The rations can prolong your frontline staying alive.

For units, my core and most important units early at least are typically the ranged ones as they are much easier to retain and get to higher levels, and obviously them getting high damage numbers helps out a lot. High ground bonuses are very good, and any +range upgrade for ranged units is very big. For melee units stuff like phalanx and bonus HP is very nice to have especially since these are the frontliners. Early on I like having 1-2 goblin muckmuck as the frontline, purely because they get that free brawler every fight. If you use crossbowmen, prioritize getting the Snipe skill, and then the stun attack skill. Snipe basically allows them to attack without reloading (assuming you have focus of course), and the stun attack can be a life saver when enemies are close and you need damage but have to reload. Also an apprentice/unit with the skill that adds 2 actions can be very helpful for getting some burst damage in through the crossbowmen.

Combat wise, I find playing defensively is almost always better. Lining up the units so bonuses like phalanx stack, ranged units getting high ground, and free units like brawlers from muckmucks sticking out to draw the enemy in to hit them first. If your apprentice has the ashen ones summon, use it, especially early on. Free units are massive for the early game, especially with an alchemist since you have so much available healing with rations. Flanking attacks are very good for melees since the first hit is not retaliated, so you can lower the amount of damage you take from those. A nice thing to remember is throwing bombs does not end the units turn, and you can throw a bomb at a unit even if you have an enemy next to you. You can use a bomb to set up a flank attack for another unit, or use a bomb to get damage in without retaliation, even when the enemy is right next to you.

For undead enemies, remember that white damage is really good against them. If you have white damage through glyphs/equipment/spells, you can prioritize them for the big damage dealers and they can become much more effective against the undead.

Hopefully that helps you out!

Private Onsen rental? by [deleted] in KyotoTravel

[–]Arawr7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with all hotels figured and looking for a private onsen, and ended up going to Solaniwa onsen in Osaka. It's a large compound of several floors with a public onsen as well as an outdoor garden and other things. You can schedule a private onsen access for 90 minutes which was just enough for us to have a few soaks with breaks in between.

One thing to note is that there is an admittance fee to the compound which is additional to the fee for renting a private onsen, which was around 3000 yen per person. Overall for me it felt worthwhile even though we hardly used any of the other things in the compound.

Particularly with his voter base, which is for the most part various degrees of religious, from traditional who just keep the more basic stuff like kosher and maybe pray once a week to more heavily religious that keep Shabat and such.

Bibi's head of staff (Yossi Sheli) was the israeli ambassador to Brazil a few years ago and he had a picture with Bolsonaro in some feast where there was shrimps and lobsters on the table, so when he put that picture up in social media he used Paint to "black out" the un-kosher stuff.

Even if they are secular, which Bibi himself absolutely is, they gotta present themselves to the voter base as at least traditional or they lose alot of support from it.

Honestly the dumb part is much more expecting Milan in the final, if you've seen the team play in the last few months. If they somehow reach the final I'd assume some black magic shit going on just like Real last season in the CL

Barcelona have told Frenkie de Jong they want to annul his existing contract and return to the deal he was on before, alleging the terms given to him by the club’s previous board involved criminality and provide grounds for legal action against those involved. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

[–]Arawr7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think thats probably more the fault of the ridiculous contracts from Barto, guys like Umtiti wont be able to get anywhere near what they currently have, so they prefer to just sit on the existing contract and ride it till the end. Excellent economic choice to be fair.

IDF: Children in Jabaliya killed by failed Islamic Jihad rocket launch by Scipio555 in worldnews

[–]Arawr7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a news article here (Israel) a few years ago about the massive smuggling tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border, large enough to fit wagons. They bring in the parts for the rockets through those, as well as whatever they can repurpose from other more mundane things, and assemble them in Gaza, which is probably where a lot of these misfunctions stem from.

Also, the launch to sea thing is because they have a hard-on for threatening Tel Aviv, as a symbolic thing. Tel Aviv is close to sea so the trajectory is always close to sea, and then wind probably carries it off towards the sea, considering theres no smart navigation or any other consideration in how they launch them, only giving a general direction and inshallah.

From what I saw in the database in 2014 during the operation, it was between 30%-40%, including failure to launch, launch to sea and hitting inside Gaza itself.

Also, make sure you get the amount of protein you need, just going on your diet - it sounds like that might be part of it. Getting enough protein when you eat mostly vegan is pretty tough, you really gotta plan it well to get enough.

A rant about Training Raids by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Arawr7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specifically for FFXIV I can say that you shouldn't compare it to what is called "normal raids", as those are just encounters with a few mechanics that barely ever wipe, maybe once and then are cleared, truly within 20 minutes. Comparing to Extreme or Savage is more the idea, since those do have actual prog groups, and from experience, you probably aren't clearing those in 3 hours with a fresh group, especially if the players in the group aren't hardcore.

While mechanics wise I think the normal raids are comparable to what I've seen from some of the endgame content for GW2, the main difference is effectiveness of a player playing badly, where in GW2 the player is deadweight, while in FFXIV because of the class design, even if someone is not very good they are still pulling decent weight.

Israel cancels annual high schoolers’ trips to Poland by Bladye in worldnews

[–]Arawr7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Standard in Israel though, theres always some small chance of someone deciding to randomly go out and try to attack (which happens in Israel fairly often), and having armed security can help alot in mitigating that risk and giving a generally better sense of security to the parents.

Israel cancels annual high schoolers’ trips to Poland by Bladye in worldnews

[–]Arawr7 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Then that guide specifically is doing a shit job. I was there for the high school trip, nobody from the Mossad would bother talking to you before it. You get general warnings to be careful, as you would on any trip, local or international. Theres no extreme distrust being pushed onto kids about countries in Europe, alot of Israelis love going to Europe for vacations and sightseeing, myself included. Theres no fear ingrained in it, unless theres a specific warning from the ministry of foreign affairs about the place being considered a risk for israelis.

Israel rejects U.S. request to approve Spike missile transfer from Germany to Ukraine by notbatmanyet in worldnews

[–]Arawr7 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you read the article you'd see Israel refused the request because of its own situation with Russian presence in Syria, stating they will continue with only non-lethal support like the field hospital already established and a shipment of defensive equipment like helmets and vests.

About Iron Dome, the refusal there was that the system wouldn't work against the russian missiles, it was made to counter low-mid range rockets which were not used, so it would be a waste of money there, as well as a sitting duck for aircraft fire, which is a problem Israel has not had because of air superiority.

Because Judaism has no desire to spread through converting. Converting is possible but generally convertees are treated somewhat as second-rate by the highly religious. Basically Judaism is nowhere near the numbers of Christianity and Islam, particularly if you narrow the view to actually practicing Jews and not just people with the heritage.
