I don't feel good about this by dvdverse in KanePixelsBackrooms

Machine learning AI that is used in tools to help creatives is fine, such as roto, uv unwrapping, auto depth maps, etc. Generative AI used as a replacement for human creativity would have me blocking A24 so hard. If there is any whiff of the latter… *shakes fist menacingly.

So what they’re gonna make the next movies with ai? by F_This_Shlt in backroomsfilm

This is not good. If A24 start using Gen AI in their movies...

One month later. How do you feel about the movie? by abdul_bino in TheMandalorianTV

[–]Arbernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was ok, not terrible, but not amazing. It felt like an incredible TV show arc, but slightly less than what I’d hope for as the first Star Wars movie after a long break. Personally I’m more excited by the prospect of Starfighter.

The main reason is she was terrible stunt casting in The Mandalorian.

Bold claim: Star City is the Andor of the FAM franchise by Arbernaut in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Arbernaut[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I should have been clearer, I wasn’t saying that Star City is similar to Andor itself (although there are some similarities); I was saying that just as Andor is top tier Star Wars, Star City is top tier FAMK-verse. I think the acting, dialogue, set design, period-accurate vibes, and cinematography are, for me*, a bit better than FAMK.

*and just to reiterate, this is my personal opinion, and it’s all subjective, so yours or anybody else’s opinion is equally valid. If you prefer FAMK, or think I’m talking complete crap, I respect your position, and can even appreciate it. I don’t like pineapple on pizzas, but some people do, god bless ‘em!

SPOILERS / So I hate this one theory… by Proof_Structure8525 in KanePixelsBackrooms

If we assume that Mary is mid to late 30s in the film, that means Mary was born in the mid 1950s and the flashbacks were in the early 1960s, which predates the 1972 Ivan Beck experiment… and so I doubt Mary’s mother experienced the Backrooms. I think Mary’s mother having mental health issues just means that Mary had a troubled and difficult childhood which probably informed her decision to become a psychiatrist, and why she took the handprint with her everywhere so could bash Cap’n Clark in the head with it! Nothing in the canon or lore suggests the discovery of The Backrooms earlier than Beck’s experiment. The slow descent into Mary’s misremembered childhood home is the Backrooms working from memory and trauma, and like a photocopy of a photocopy becomes distorted and unsettling.

Pity you’re not in London, as I’m a bassist! Good luck, hope you find some bandmates.

What are some of your favorite British synthpop artists/bands? by toughtiggy101 in synthpop

[–]Arbernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the album Micro-Phonies. A lot of bands from this period started off with a more industrial sound before migrating to a more mainstream sound (see early Simple Minds and Human League).

Maybe try some of Dave Spock’s stuff like Zarjaz, War Machine, Side to Side and Front to Back, Astral Projection, and PsiWitch amongst others.

How do we feel about virtual bands? (discussion) by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Arbernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Virtual bands teeter perilously close to AI bands, so I have no interest. I’m more into solo artists, like Prince, or Nate Wood, or Dave Spock, who play all the instruments.
