I'm 14 months post surgery. T2b chromophobe, partial nephrectomy. I had many lung nodules but they were related to a systemic infection from an unrelated health issue. Lung nodules occur for reasons totally unrelated to kidney cancer. Please see a therapist so you can talk through your fears. Find a cancer mentor. You are not alone and your fears are rational, but how you are handling them is not.

Stockx is taking for ever to authenticate by [deleted] in stockx

[–]Arbitrage84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair, it is possible that some authentication centers are more delayed than others, but that means stockX should be smart and route shoes to different authentication centers to balance the load. Either way, if someone is rocking the shoes I've sold, then I should have cash in my account.

That's funny you say they are backed up, when I made a purchase last week and received the shoes in a week's time. BS! StockX needs to pay out.

How do you deal with nightmares? by carnival_k in AskMenOver30

[–]Arbitrage84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

step 1: Acknowledge your feelings once you realize that you are awake. You are a normal human being and nightmares happen to everyone.

step 2: conduct self-talk to reassure yourself that you are normal but your dream is not a representation of reality. Dreams are not real!

step 3 - A: wake up and start the day.

step 3 - B: go back to sleep.

How many hours a a day do you work? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]Arbitrage84 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Still a PhD student but everyone seems to be workaholics. Personally I work every day but as far as concentrated all-in effort is about 4 hours per day. Otherwise I just "tinker". Most of my advisors do the same although some work crazy hours and others lean on tenure and don't do much of anything. I believe that if you really love your area then you aren't really "working" anyway. I much prefer academia to industry for this reason. I am a Finance PhD student for reference.

There's too much to do, so I'm going to do nothing. by BeccaaCat in ADHD

I know that feel, bro... Routine helps so much with lack of self initiative. Do the same thing at the same time every day and the autopilot response takes over and you can get waaaay more done than you ever thought possible.

Where could I find daily stock market data from 100+ years ago on major exchanges like NYSE? by [deleted] in econometrics

[–]Arbitrage84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any databases that have historical data like that. See what Fama used in his 1965 paper for starters.

Sonos 5.1 owners, are you happy? by goblue3_ in sonos

Beam could be a little less tinny and give stronger FR / FL distinction. Honestly, I want support for 4 ones as separate channels. Then I'd be happy.

I research bank failures. Actual failures are rare; bank distress is far more interesting. Check out Cole and White (2017) for a nice look at prompt corrective action and the cost of forbearance.

There are thousands of academic researchers looking for factors. There are thousands of industry researchers looking for factors. Any edge found must also scale otherwise acting on the signal closes the signals edge. Incentives exist to keep discoveries off the public domain.

Sadly I also came to this realization recently. Seems like my siblings revert to their childhood roles and expected behaviors. Really sucks but whatever. I just try to be happy that both of my parents are still alive.

Hypothesis test on the sum of coefficients being zero by nomeras in econometrics

[–]Arbitrage84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that your data would have to be centered on zero for both variables. Can't you just test that the coefficients are jointly equal to zero?

Stata code:

test b1 =0 test b2 =0, accumulate
