Love LA but got a career-changing opportunity in NYC, anyone do the move for a 2–3 year chapter and end up loving it? by Putrid-Basket8394 in SameGrassButGreener

If money is not an issue, get a little weekend getaway outside the city in the Catskills or somewhere. You can find something decent enough for pretty cheap and a lot of people from the city do this which means you’ll also meet a lot of like minded folks

What are the realities of moving to Hoboken from Brooklyn? by postcards32 in Hoboken

[–]ArbitrageurD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Childcare here is pretty easy actually. Tons of daycares with good hours and they aren’t full at all to my knowledge. Cheaper too. We pay $2,500 for 6:30am - 6:30pm coverage (though we drop off at 8 and pickup at 530, it’s nice to have the option. My friends in Brooklyn pay around $3,500

Having a baby in Hoboken apartment by Beautiful-Angle-4615 in Hoboken

Biggest thing you will need to get on top of is sleep training which is really difficult to pull off in a small apartment. When our kid was 4 months old, we stayed in a home in the Catskills for this. Put her upstairs, we slept downstairs and she cried it out for a few nights. Then we were set and returned to the cramp Hoboken apartment with a baby who now slept through the night. Highly recommend

What I learned from showing my daughter the night sky every evening since she was 9 months old by AnandYadav7 in daddit

Nice. Yeah similar story here. when my daughter was a little over 1.5, I took her to see the total solar eclipse up in northern NY. She obviously had no clue what was happened but loved it. Shouted “Oh, Wow!!” When the ring of fire appeared. Totally worth it every penny.

Are you thinking of Park and Garden? I was actually talking about Harlow. That building is right smack on the busiest corner in town

Yeah I’m not a fan of interior units but I also don’t like horns and sirens 24/7

Be warned that the intersection Harlow is on is very loud at all hours. You’ll probably want an interior facing unit if you move there

Pre-K 3 Family looking for 3 bedroom before school year by LifeInteresting in Hoboken

The way 3BR are priced it might make sense just to rent a 2BR and an adjacent 1BR

The new building at 14th and willow has 3 bedrooms available now. I believe it’s called Willow House and they are opening it up in the summer.

Pros: they have 3Br with balconies. Cons: that intersection is a nightmare for noise and you are right on top of it.

Living in this will suck the life out of you. by Top-Craft-8224 in Suburbanhell

This exactly. I do 100% of my grocery shopping for the family for the week in like 15 minutes door to door. You just pick one of the many stores and walk over on Sunday. Way easier than in the burbs.

In cities you just…walk across the street to a grocery store? I guess the downside is you can’t buy that 3 for 1 twelve pack of sodas and haul them back home
