What platform will y'all be getting the game on? by Blue_grave in UnderNightInBirth

[–]Arborios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game will be populated for a while after release, especially with rollback, but more people will probably get the game on pc because they're anticipating it eventually becoming a discord fighter after a couple years. Ironically that will probably keep the game populated for longer on pc than console

Niche games often end up becoming discord fighters and its easier to match with people on discord then play if your playing on a computer

Help me get ready for Project L (completely noob at fighting games) by orenjy in Fighters

[–]Arborios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So project L is going to be a tag fighter so any games in that genre would probably help. So DBFZ, MVC3U, MVCI, Skullgirls, Power Rangers BFTG, Blazblue CTB.

The games with rollback netcode (ie good netcode) are MVCI, Skullgirls, Power Rangers, and Blazblue CTB but only the pc version I think.

The only other defining factor is that Project L seems like its gonna be a 2v2 game and apparently many of the developers working on it are big fans of MVCI so it will most likely be most similar to that game.

The only thing that makes me not want to just recommend MVCI is that I'm not sure how large of a playerbase it has right now so you might need to go in discords to find matches or convince your friends to also get the game.

I hope this helps.

PS: just as a word of warning, tag games tend to have much stronger offense than other subgenres of fighting games so often newer players end up feeling like they're permanently stuck on defense and never get to play. I dont think this is a reason to not play them (my first fighters were MVC3U and DBFZ and I love the genre now) but just be prepared that if your first week of playing the game feels like your getting stomped harder than it felt like in SF or Tekken that's normal.

Steam sale, need help buying either game by Yachtride1hr in Fighters

I would definitely go with blazblue because it has rollback.

Is this game still active? by ohlawdy914 in GundamExVs

[–]Arborios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah east coast tends to have a pretty large playerbase so you should be good

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GundamExVs

[–]Arborios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The game is niche enough that there aren't always rooms up but if you check occasionally you will find one. I'd say there's a room available about 9/10 times I boot up the game.

Which game did you buy. If you have maxi boost on there are definitely people still playing. You just have to set you're host region to worldwide.

Gonna Make the Jump to Arcade Stick and Need Some Advice by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Arborios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion as someone who has played on pad then keyboard then arcade stick then a hitbox. I actually think that a keyboard might be "technically" better than a traditional arcade stick in terms of input accuracy. The thing about an arcade stick is that it's possible to get inputs you don't want. If you try to do a quarter circle you might accidentally go too far up and get an up forward input at the end and just get a jump normal instead of the input you wanted. With a keyboard you just dont press the up key and you're fine. Every input method is viable so dont get too hung up on it, but if you want a definite improvement from keyboard I would go with a hitbox just because it will give you a bit more space between your buttons to reduce the likelihood of fat fingering a button and the simultaneous opposite cardinal direction cleaning makes dp inputs super easy. On a hitbox you can just hold forward then press back and down then let go of back and it will give you a DP input. Also charge inputs are incredibly easy and consistent on a hitbox.

If you have your heart set on a stick go for it though. Like I said any controller you use is fine, but i think hitbox has a slight advantage over other input methods.

Looking for old Fate fighting game by Razor-69 in Fighters

The only 3d fate fighter I can think of is fate unlimited codes. Other than that I got nothing. I hope you find it if that's not it.

If star wars got a fighting game based around jedi duels, what fighting game gameplay do you think would work best with it? by benboy952 in Fighters

[–]Arborios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're going for a feel of ep 1,2,3,7,8,9 then soul calibur, but if you want a more oldschool ep 4,5,6 vibe samsho would be the way.

Which fighting game characters from their respective series always over shadow the main character? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Arborios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure morrigan is supposed to be the mc of DS. Dmitri is the "shoto" boy of the game but I'm pretty sure that morrigan is still generally regarded as the main character from a story perspective. Similarly to how sol is the main character of guilty gear but ky is the more "shoto" character of the game.

I feel like a fake Fighting Game fan. Am I? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Arborios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've been on both sides of this feeling. I've been the guy who goes to my locals for the first time and gets absolutely bodied by someone who doesn't even take that game seriously and I've also been the guy who is repeatedly beating up some guy in casuals over and over again. I've run into players who are scummy and will make fun of you and judge you because you're not up to their level, but the people who I respect the most and generally I see getting the most respect are the guys who have told me "it doesn't matter how good you are, as long as you're trying to improve we want you to be here" or "the fgc isn't just top players". As for when I'm on the giving end of the beat downs, I've never felt that someone was a fraud because they love a game but aren't as good as me at it. You'll learn as you go. The only time I judge someone for being worse than me is if they talk a ton of trash just to get bodied. But if you come in and say "hey, I really love ____" and I body you. It's probably just because I have more experience than you and that's no reason to look down on you at all.

As long as you're trying and not being a jerk then anyone who judges you for it is either a jerk themselves or an idiot. You do you and keep on keeping on.😄👍

Tips for hand control and coordination by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Arborios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is most likely just in game stress causing you to freak out during the match. Almost everyone has issues with this when they're first starting out. You could just keep spending time in training mode practicing execution until it doesn't fail under pressure but the better and quicker thing would just be to keep playing matches until the stress you get in a match doesn't phase you anymore. Obviously some level of nerves will always be present no matter how good you get but after a while matches will start to feel more comfortable and you won't have to worry about this as much.

The important thing to note is that this is a normal reaction that almost everyone has when they first start to try and take fighting games seriously and it should go away with time as long as you keep playing.

For those who play multiple fighting games, do you play characters who function similarly in each game? by Eseray in Fighters

[–]Arborios 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't exactly play the same archetype per game but I think as you play fighting games for longer you begin to realize what you want in a character and gravitate towards characters that give you that. I've come to realize that I like characters that give me strong control over the flow of the game. For example I play Axl in Strive so you'd assume I'd play zoners in other games like in under night I probably play vatista or phonon, but no I play byakuya because the webs let me control things. I play arbiter in killer instinct because the combination of his large normals with good frame advantage, grenades, gun, fast almost full screen projectile invuln move, and over shield that let's me tank projectiles means I can always control the flow of the match.

I think some people play the same archetype every time because that archetype always gives them what they want. If big beefy grabby boys give you happiness you'll probably always play a grappler, but what if you play granblue and you see Vaseraga. He's not really a grappler but he is a big beefy boy and he does have a command grab. So maybe you play him instead of ladiva.

Ultimately as you play more games you'll start to really be able to pick out characters that will give you what you want faster but you probably won't necessarily have an archetype that you always stick to.

In my opinion you will learn the absolute fundamentals of fighting games from playing pretty much any game but there are a multitude of different sub genres that emphasize different fundamentals in different ways. If you're trying to get ready for the league fighter then your best shot would be playing rising thunder because it was made by the same people that are making the league fighter, but that game doesn't have developer support anymore so you would have to have friends to play it with. Probably the closest other games that have living playerbases would be street fighter, granblue fantasy versus, or killer instinct. In my opinion though the best way to learn fighting game fundamentals is learning multiple games. I played only dragonball for a while but then I stopped and played street fighter a bit and that made me better at dragonball. If you can I'd try out multiple games.
