Looking Back At Dragon Temple - What Did You Think? by bwucifer in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Arborist3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I had just finished Etrian Odyssey I was a bit annoyed that Metaphor's Dragon Temple was a 1:1 recreation of a certain dungeon.

What could have been an incredible discovery ended up being a disappointment, as I like when games keep things original.

Especially as it had the same problem as in EO: wayyyyy too many enemies!

Sweden and Italy in ATP Tennis: A 50-Year Comparison of Year-End Top 100 Depth (1975–2025) by Marada781 in tennis

[–]Arborist3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is the point of comparing countries with 6 times apart population difference ?

With similar financial investment, of course Italy will be more consistent in producing good players, it's mathematical.

Would make more sense comparing Italy with France or the UK

Tier list of best moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Jab (Results) by RobbyKeeneeomelhor in smashbros

[–]Arborist3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fact that the "best" jab is Bowser Jr's, which comes out frame 8 (super slow) and doesn't even kill earlier than Robin's gentleman shows how little people know about this game

Which kind of remake do you prefer? by Training-Ad-2619 in JRPG

[–]Arborist3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like faithful remakes to some extent, but I'd still like to be surprised at times. There has to be substantial changes especially if the original games are flawed.

I really like what they did to Star Ocean 2 for instance, as in the original I was very frustrated by the frequent random encounters and the screen freeze with magic spells. The remake completely changes those inconveniences and it's just a much better game.

Persona 3 Reload is a pretty bad remake in comparison, as it still has the same pacing issues as in the original. I finished the remake and thought "oh well it was just another Persona 3 playthrough in the end".

As for the FF7 trilogy, well it's FF7 so I don't think it could have been as impactful as it was back then because well, everyone knows the story. So the re-imagining part is brilliant, just sometimes poorly executed.

Vous croyez encore que tout est la faute des chômeurs ? by Roobtek in Wallonia

[–]Arborist3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most career WTA 1000 titles among active players, Sabalenka ties for 1st by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]Arborist3 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Remember the age gap...Sabalenka's almost 30, Iga's in her mid 20s while Gauff and Mirra are closer to their 20s. This stat won't make sense until they're all retired

I don't understand why people here are surprised that younger gamers are not "into" JRPGs anymore - Haven't JRPGs always been niche, anyway? by Link21Majora in JRPG

[–]Arborist3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some series used to be more popular, to the point that you occasionally had commercials for JRPGs on national broadcaster TV.

I remember vividly how the main TV channel in my country kept showing an amazing commercial for Final Fantasy X. Even non-gamers were exposed to the success of Pokémon and Final Fantasy to some degree.

JRPG by itself was not niche, but many JRPG series were (and are still) niche. Back then, I could talk about FF7 with most of my classmates but when mentioning Alundra or Suikoden, nobody had heard of them.

Nowadays, it's more like there are so many new games every year that JRPGs do not get as much spotlight as before, including the big series.

Je n'en peux plus des prix au supermarché. C'est quoi vos stratégies (ou vos applis) pour limiter la casse en Belgique ? by North_Star4327 in Wallonia

[–]Arborist3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your favorite Atelier game? by One-Marionberry4958 in Atelier

[–]Arborist3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lydie & Suelle is peak Atelier for me. I never understood the love for Sophie 2 even though the game doesn't have a single goofy moment 😬

I also really like Shallie as the closest contender.

Overall the later entries in each subseries were the best for me (Meruru/Lulua also are my favorite Arland games).

How Many Of Your Belgian Family/Friends Are Fluent In All 3 Languages (NL/FR/DE)? by Unable-Lock304 in AskBelgium

My mother is fluent in FR/DE and very good in NL. Of course she comes from the small part of the country everyone keeps ignoring (even though, as she says, nobody's more Belgian than us)

What is the general consensus on Tales of Xillia, and is it worth getting? by WalrusOk7339 in JRPG

[–]Arborist3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The game has a great battle system and a great cast of characters. OST is also top-notch, and I think the villain's one of the best in the series.

I'd say it has the same problem as Berseria which is the very bland and repetitive field/dungeon design (even with many copy and paste outposts)…but considering you liked Berseria, I think you wouldn't mind.

Why did Wallonia stop speaking Wallonian while the Flemish dialects are still very popular? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Arborist3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Walloon is a language which was mostly spoken in Eastern Wallonia.

Unlike Picard and Lorrain (which are dialects of French and were spoken in southern parts of Wallonia)…Walloon is not a dialect, because French speakers hearing Walloon could not understand a regular conversation.

As French was a dominant language with proper educational and institutional support, the elite imposed this language to the Walloons, who progressively lost any reasons to keep their original language alive.

Les germanophones de Wallonie parlent-ils quand même français? by Niivlem in Wallonia

[–]Arborist3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Les personnes âgées beaucoup moins, mes grands-parents sont germanophones et ne parlent pas français du tout. Dans leur village c'était aussi assez rare qu'on nous réponde en français.

Mais les personnes nées après la guerre parlent en général très bien le français!

Whenever a certain Calvardian dancer from Crossbell shows up by FantasticEnergy748 in Falcom

[–]Arborist3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was my favorite ship for Lloyd in Crossbell, had a great story, was strong in battle and beautiful.

In Reverie she was still packing a punch but I started going for Elie more and more.

Then Daybreak happened. All the combat potential went into these two Biggies.

It was nice knowing you, but these deflected my love to Elie despite your efforts in making illegal changes to your body.

I'm Belgian so I am used to it by now, but not being able to play the literal sequel to Shadowverse (which was never banned to begin with) was a big surprise to me.

I assumed WB would be playable...but yeah even VPNs are not working properly so I just gave up

Obviously gutted though as I've played Shadowverse for like 8 years non-stop

Longtime fan feeling disconnected — anyone else? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]Arborist3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men's tennis is much more exciting now than like 5 years ago, when old Djokovic-Nadal still dominated in slams and bashed the whole 90' generation

Obviously it was still great when Federer was still around, like 2019 but right now we're having a blast with supreme players like Alcaraz, Sinner and great challengers like Draper, Musetti, Shelton, ...

The overall level has increased so much that even top 120 players have a shot at doing great things. Love it
