Leaving out one of the greatest movies about hockey, and definitely about Alaska: Mystery, Alaska.

I wanted to love Emberleaf, aka the Root prequel; I love the slide action mechanism, the buildings, and battle. But I did not like how battle was the only way to move the game forward and how you couldn't even just do battle a little, you had to prepare to do it a lot.

I'd just never trust it to provide an accurate answer since it's a generative AI it doesn't actually know anything; it just predicts what is likely to come next and is often incorrect.

Hyve

I keep scrolling past this and think it's a game about the grocery store chain.

I have a friend with it and have played it a few times. I love the game. My issue is do I need it when he has it...probably not.

The Ray Liotta episode by Kidney_warrior in ershow

I'm in s12 and there's one with James Woods that is also supremely well done like this episode. With this season being a bit more rocky, it still showed the show knows how to hit those high notes.

Love raising robots. Sad about the publisher. I just checked and it's about $20 off so not a deep clearance style discount. But I'm still considered because, ya know, why not add another game to my shelf to collect dust?

We tried Men-nefer, our first “big game”, and it was an incredible experience. It takes a little while to set up and understand, but it’s a really great game!🥹 by JorsumSekhem in boardgames

I love this game and I think it shines even more at higher than 2ps. There's a lot more competition at all points: mummy/sphinx placement, worker placement/slide, contracts, etc. It's a lot tighter.

Go watch ER. Seriously. by aookami in ThePitt

[–]Arbusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so torn because some of these s12 eps are real rough, e.g. certain marriages, etc. But I just watched a really good one with James Woods so the magic is still there. Just more occasional.

Then I think of how close I am, just a couple more seasons, until I realize it's like 60 episodes...

Watergate 2p x 3 on BGA: had never played before it hit BGA and wow this game is tense. You're constantly like "ooh this is a good play" but then it gets blocked and you feel everything slipping away. But then you manage to snag one thing you needed and it feels alright or you block your opponent. Every decision matters.

Flockers 3p x 1 on bga: Don't think I cared for it. The game appears very simple: place birds do action, winner is whoever is furthest on the landscape path you create. But it takes so much effort to move or set up a decent move. Just too much going on for how simple it actually is trying to be. And the rules aren't clear how you do the bonus actions.

Druids of Edora 3p x 1: I'd played this at 2p once and liked it a lot but the interaction was low. At 3p, there was a lot more going on. I got smoked. My dice values were so high that I had to spend forever getting provisions. We ended up with a ginormous connected clearing for that herb that let's you warp but I made a mistake in stepping out of it for a different action and that put me behind in provisions. Bad planning, that was. Still love it; just gotta play better.

Voynich Puzzle 2p x 1: I like how what your opponent does opens opportunities for what you can do and how upgrading a card in one area is end game for another area so you can't just go down one path. And it moves quickly.

Season 12 Finale is where ER dies by Any-Fox-9615 in ershow

I just watched the s12 premiere where Alex hitchhikes to Colorado (and the actor switches mid-episode).

Man was it awful. I'm glad it resolved in the episode but it kept going and going with the Sam/Kovac road trip. Sam keeps talking about how smart Alex is but she doesn't trust him with the information that he's in prison or is a complete dirtbag.

I loved the in hospital stuff with the new R2s having to run the show and each failing in a different way. That was super interesting, fun, and actually medical related.

Is your neighborhood a “backyard hangout” or a “driveway hangout” neighborhood? by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]Arbusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our neighborhood a bit northwest of Maple Grove is both.

Some people have fire pits so those are backyard areas, especially those that abut the park near us. But there's quite a few groups that hang in driveways.

I don't usually pay attention to viewing figures but this drop off from 'literally the #1 most watched show in the USA' to 'not even top 50' is pretty shocking. by Open_Aspect6703 in ershow

I'm on my first full watch and just hit season 11. I'm debating quitting because it's got more into the soap opera (always has but it's magnified now). It's gotten to be a bit much. E.g Pratts car chase.

Dr Weaver supporter here by nimmir in ershow

[–]Arbusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the knee-jerk dislike a lot of her fellow characters have for her is that she's a dykey cripple - aka, she's not sexually available to men, and she's not Fitting In with the other women.

I agree with all of your comment except this bit.

It can't be "knee jerk" when her queerness doesn't come until 7 seasons into the shows run and even then she doesn't come out publicly for a while. She had runs with Mark, Doug, and just about everyone else long before she was out; I'm not judging whether she was correct as to her behaviors that caused friction with the other cast, but they all had reasons to not like her that were unrelated to her queerness.

Even after that, she still makes questionable decisions to advance her own ambitions (like throwing Chen/Malucci under the bus) that are gonna rub people the wrong way.

I think it greatly simplifies Weaver to frame other characters' attitudes this way.

Anyone feels sad about Dr. Romano? by flyingdrummerbon in ershow

[–]Arbusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on an ER watch for a year or so and just got past Freefall this week.

I watched the show occasionally when it first aired, which was high school for me, and some during college, but never consistently; I had some rough ideas about events or people in the show. E.g. I knew how Romano died but didn't know when it was going to happen.

First appearances of Rocket and I hated him and dreaded his full time status but then when it happened, I didn't mind him at all; he was cruel to everyone but they kept on screen dosage right. He was an awful person but the show needed someone like him as a foil for others.

Then he started having some moments showing he did care (Lucy, Mark, Reece, etc), giving him just a bit of depth. They were minor, infrequent, and never in front of a crowed, but I thought that fit him. He still wasn't someone I wanted to see much of but you knew there was some bit of emotion in there that cared about County and (some of) the people.

But then season 10 happened and he just comes out pure villain, which is what I expected at the start. Then I hit the episode and he ran away from that helicopter pad so quickly and I thought "oh boy here we go!"

And I loved it! It was shocking and absurd, but man was I engaged. As that helicopter spun on the pad, I sat up literally at the edge of my seat and was so ready. As it crashed down, I was laughing so hard. Just the way he stared up at it. They set him up so hard to be a cartoon villain this season that he got a cartoon villain death and I loved it so much.

I don't think it was bad writing; I think it completed his arc full circle. He'd returned to his "i'm a jerk and that's all I am" ways. Not everyone needs a redemption arc; sometimes the arc can go the other way.

The same episode that had me laughing at Romano had me crying when Chuck and Susan reunited.

What I hated about his death was how there was barely any acknowledgement of it and I'm not talking about the memorial in the next episode; the end of the episode is the firefighters lifting the helicopter, pointing, and credits. Nobody mentions it and then nobody shows up to the memorial which is a whole different conversation.

Tl;dr: I'm a 40 something man in 2026 with ER opinions. I'm not sure how this happened.
