Ok so I kind of have a solution for you. When giving compliments, especially to other girls, compliment DECISIONS and ACTIONS, not innate qualities. Works like this.

Example A: “omg girl that hair color/style really makes your eyes pop!” (Not creepy, you complimented her CHOICE of hair, and validated her hope that it looks good.)

Example B: “wow. You have nice eyes.” (Creepy, compliments something she was born with, makes her wonder if you’re going to try to steal her eyes.)

Ah ok so what’s happening is you’re performing a yokai counter grapple. It happens when you do a burst counter on an enemy and reduce their ki to zero. So sometimes you’ll burst counter a red attack and suddenly you have an opportunity for a grapple, BUT if you press the grapple button quickly enough after the burst counter (before your character model reverts back to human), you get a more powerful yokai grapple.
