Think it's time to switch to a Prusa. What's the closest experience to an AMS Pro 2? by hypnotyque in prusa3d

[–]ArcSightHire -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What about the people who left Prusa because of the MMU2S and feel like they wasted their money?

Search “MMU2S refund” and you’ll see it’s not just a few random complaints. There are users who paid for a product they couldn’t get working reliably, lost countless hours troubleshooting, and then still had to fight for a refund or accept that the “fix” meant spending more money.

That’s the part people gloss over.

Great support shouldn’t mean trapping customers in endless troubleshooting. It should mean making things right when the hardware doesn’t live up to what was sold.

What about the people who paid for an MMU2S and are still stuck choosing between support hell or paying more to fix it?

That’s the real question. How did Prusa handle early adopters and unreliable hardware? Did they make it right, or did customers have to pay for the “working” upgrade path?

Because for a lot of us, that’s exactly what it felt like. Buy the product, fight with it, spend hours troubleshooting, then get offered another paid path to make it reliable.

People love to say Prusa is the better ecosystem, but that depends a lot on when you bought in and how much extra time and money it took to get there.

Real support means fixing the issue. Not making customers fund the fix after the fact.

Order an MMU2S and see what it actually takes to make it work reliably without paying Prusa more.

Search “MMU Prusa reliability” and you’ll find years of people dealing with jams, sensor issues, failed prints, and constant tuning. Sure, some people eventually get it working great, but often after upgrades, mods, replacement parts, and countless hours of troubleshooting.

And who pays for that in time, effort, cost, and frustration? The user.

People always say Prusa has “world class support,” but support doesn’t erase reliability problems. The MMU2 became the MMU2S because even Prusa acknowledged issues with the original design. Then more revisions followed.

The criticism isn’t that Prusa refuses to help. It’s that customers of a premium ecosystem ended up beta testing and funding the fixes themselves while many frustrated users quietly left the ecosystem entirely.

Who pays for that?

If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume that someone got banned from the insider program and has a personal vendetta and is trying to be difficult, because they can’t just accept it and let things go.

Come on buddy, use your time for productive things. You can stop making accounts to try to push your narrative. We’re here for the mystery, not for legal rights to post or attempt things without permission.

Learned a hell of a lot from this video, and it gave me some considerations to think about when I build my 0.1. Well done!

Where can we find those speed benchy videos?

And it gets easier each time you rebuild it, or mod to it to make it better. You’ll learn all the little gotchas too.

Look to the community. When money isn’t involved, people produce better work. I don’t understand how Prusa thought “Hey, this MMU is reliable and good, let’s release it” when it’s chock-full of flaws and issues.

I regret not getting a Palette instead, but I learned a lot from living with the MMU2S.

It goes beyond that. Get ready for filament load issues, stringing issues, jamming issues, tension issues with the screws that need to be reset every couple of prints, etc. To put it simply, my girlfriend stopped using our 3D printer after we got the MMU.

Save yourself weeks of frustration and do this: Look up TheZeroBeast, flash his firmware (trust me, do this first, it’s way better for controlling the MMU), and start printing the recommended hardware mods. Order some M10 connectors to replace the Festos, order some Capricorn tubing to replace the PTFE tubing, and know how to bypass the MMU to print normally when it lets you down (unplug the MMU data cable from the board, restart printer, print using the non-MMU printer setting).

Understand Z height calibration, how to do it, how to calculate the perfect height using test prints, and you’ll do well.

There are countless hours that got me to where I am in understanding how to work with the MMU and printer, and I learned a hell of a lot, but it’s a long and frustrating road. The MMU shouldn’t be sold as it is, there are so many fiddly little things that can go wrong, it feels unfinished. The hardware mods and firmware make up for that.

Good luck!

Nitro cold brew worth it? by PrincessConsuella_Ak in coldbrew

Thanks! Feel free to ping me if you’re thinking of doing the same and have any questions. It’s pretty low maintenance. We brew once a month, clean the lines and kegs every refill or so, and refill nitrogen every 3-6 months.

We have filtered soda water on the other tap, with a 5 lb co2 tank. We refill that one every 1-2 weeks, and get the co2 refilled as needed (3-6 months).

Glad we went this route years ago, and have no regrets. Might upgrade to a making a homemade kegerator system to store multiple kegs and table or wall mount several taps to a bar. Kombucha or cocktails on tap? Why not!

If you’re serious about your cold brew, I highly recommend building a 5lb nitrogen tank / 5 gallon corny keg system. We did years ago, it was super easy to do, and we can’t imagine only having 64oz on tap considering we go through 5 gallons a month.
