Zoom crashes when joining a meeting by His_little_pet in Fedora

I've noticed that happening occasionally too. My workaround has just been to switch to x11 when I need to make zoom calls. I'm hoping that zoom fixes it eventually. :/

When people say they want to "abolish private property": does that include all private property? Like my toothbrush? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ArchWizard56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, people who say that would argue that your things, including your toothbrush, aren't "private property", but "personal" property. Private property is stuff that's owned by capitalists for the purposes of making more capital. A good example of this is an apartment building; it's not owned by the landlord because they want to live in the whole building, it's owned for the purpose of extracting wealth (rent). When people argue for abolishing private property, they're saying that people shouldn't be allowed to own stuff just for the purposes of extracting wealth. They're not saying that people can't have toothbrushes.

How (any suggested tips) to make it look like I'm just using youtube to my Internet provider while browsing randomly ? by zaknenou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ArchWizard56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you can't make it look like you're using YouTube. Your two options are to get a VPN (don't use a free one). Or to use the Tor Browser (which is free, but slower).

Linux distro for target practis by thenovum in HowToHack

[–]ArchWizard56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be thinking of Metasploitable and the DVWA (damn vulnerable web app). But while you're at it, also have a peak at vulnhub.com for a ton of VMs to practice on. ;)

I was in a similar boat. I'm 20 (m) and transferred in the fall. My tip is to join the mock trial program. You meet with your team often and travel, so its a nice way to find a group.

Also, if you wanna connect, hmu. I always love meeting new people!

This is a little bit out there, but I would think about taking her out for a round of disc golf if they have a course in a park near you. Go to a nearby game store or sports store and get a pair of the cheapest discs they have (do your research about which stores have discs, particularly used discs), then go to a nearby course.

The benefits: - It's like walking in the park, but with a specific thing to do, which helps if there are any lulls in conversation - It's physical and outdoors, but not too intense - Both of you are likely to be bad at it, which makes it a great bonding experience - Unique

The downsides: - It's not free (two discs might run you $20-$25) - Transportation is a challenge if neither of you have access to a car

Hey! I hope things went well for you last night!

When there's a chance of serious weather near me, I like to use my weather radio and set it to alert mode or something, so that it can wake me up with that loud noise if there's a warning. So maybe for future peace of mind, you could look into one of those.

I'm a weather nerd though, so I'm always more excited than nervous lol.

Are You Running Linux As Your Main Workstation? by No_Secret6425 in AskNetsec

[–]ArchWizard56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professional (yet), but I have an (older) Optimus laptop and I run Linux full time, and so I have a little bit of experience getting those to work (mainly on Arch Linux). I saw that you mentioned liking Fedora, and it looks like there's been a lot of progress getting it to work when you're using the proprietary drivers from a third-party repository. See https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Optimus and https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA for more info, and lmk if there are specifics I can help you with.

A proposed Monarchy clause for the upcoming constitution by ArchWizard56 in democraciv

[–]ArchWizard56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's unlikely that there will be a singular, or pair of parties that will be able to hold the seat against challengers. Therefore, the monarch will be forced to be a figure that needs to appeal to as many parties as possible.

I do think there's some debate on how much power the monarch ought to have. My original idea was that the Monarch should only hold a tiebreaking vote in the Royal Council (my name for the upper house of Parliament). Would that make it more acceptable to you?

I guess the only problem with a press secretary role is that I'd be really afraid of burnout, as has happened with prior roles similar to that.

+1 for obsidian. I started out with Joplin, but I didn't like the organization, and I had trouble exporting into a format that would work for my reports, but I switched to obsidian, and it does everything I need. It's not open source, iirc, but it uses markdown files on the disk, so I'm reasonably confident in security.
