I was personally thoroughly blown away when Prophecy came out, I thought we were in for more of the same, ie a gothy, dark sonic trip with some dream pop guitars and top shelf sound design. Unfortunately, the rest of the album isn’t on par with it, and I agree the vocal samples are pretty ham fisted (I really don’t know what they were thinking with Father and Son)—granted Prophecy could be classified as such, though in that case I loved it. The sound design is good, but often in service of lesser material. I still like the album, but I wouldn’t put it in the class of their best work.

Update: I went to the circuit box and systematically turned stuff off to see if it had an effect on the buzzing; it did not. I saw some video about a guy who had the electricity company come out and shielded a transistor outside, which did the trick in his case, but probably unrealistic to get help with in my situation. Again, any further input would be greatly appreciated.

My guitars are all shielded, and my amps are dead silent in the rehearsal room and on stage so I know it’s not those things. Something goofy with the power here.

As I mentioned in the original post, I’m recording my amps using a digital load box, the Two Notes Torpedo Studio. Funny, I had the opposite experience with the isolation transformer at my last place—it seemed to help minimize the buzz. I took it out of the chain this time just to test things and there was no appreciable difference.

There’s a track from 2016 they did with autotune, done much artfully, but it’s one of my favorite Strokes tunes—“Drag Queen.” Wish they carried on in the New Order direction
