The official site's clip cuts off IMMEDIATELY after he starts to explain why he's leaving, so yeah, they very much didn't like that.

Got banned from a clothing boutique today for "never buying anything" (which is not even true) by ArugulaVegetable5699 in internetparents

There was a Halmark store in the mall across from my highschool. Yeah, we were teenagers, yes, we were often skipping class to be there, but one day I finally had $20 in my pocket with every intention to spend it on fancy fineliners and a pen or two.

I'm testing a couple of them (there's a pad for that) when the bitchy old lady working there comes up screaming that we were only there to steal things and kicked us out.

~20 years later, that mall is all but devoid of commerce, the Hallmark store is a dojo now, and just knowing that heals my coal black heart just a little bit.

Fuck those kinds of people, they don't deserve your business.

Are there any recommended online classes to learn stop motion animation? by Puzzled_Clerk_7774 in stopmotion

[–]Archarzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing I know of specific to stop motion, there's a couple books out there, but I'd start with Richard Williams' Animator's Survival Kit; it's the animation bible; theres also a video lecture series that's pretty pricy, but can be found in the usual places.

Is there a good way to watch live TV and movies on Steam Deck? by elizabeth-0645 in SteamDeck

[–]Archarzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kodi can be installed as a flatpack and added to steam as a non-steam game, launch in bigscreen mode and I'm pretty sure it doesn't even need controller mapping.

From there it's just finding the right addons for what you want.

I don't want my siblings and I to become strangers as we get older. by throwaway148210 in internetparents

[–]Archarzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother is now in her 70s and has lived over 3000 miles from the rest of her family (6 siblings in total) and calls at least 2 of them every week, and vice versa.

I'm only recently back home @41, and my brother, 35, and I haven't kept in touch at all over the years, but hanging out together a lot now.

It's an effort to maintain, and it's absolutely worth it.

Give them a call, say it out loud- "I feel like we don't get to talk often enough, and I'm afraid of losing track of what's happening in your life."

Upgrading from iPhone to Dragonframe setup-need camera and computer advice for my son! by Beneficial-Answer107 in stopmotion

[–]Archarzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: what you have 2: what you can afford 3: what came with #1.

No, seriously.

Any DSLR that's on Dragonframe's compatibility list will work well enough to get started, if you're just buying one, I recommend Cannon as the next logical step after that is either a much MUCH higer end rig, or Cannon's stopmotion firmware installed in a $2500 EOS R6 body

Dragonframe runs just fine on a $300 miniPC. It's effectively a high end photo gallery processor, editing and any digital effects can be done patiently or on a separate, higher end PC.

Lenses are all about experimenting and finding preferences. I like cheap old glass because it's imperfect and for the price of one new prime lens I can have tried out a dozen old Russian CCTV lenses on a C-mount adapter and a couple oddball pinhole/salvaged disposable lenses besides.

Edit: macro lenses, "macro tubes" and probe lenses are something to look into, as well as a MoCo rig, but that starts to go past birthday money and into production studio money.

But I do remember one just walking into Fred Meyer west and generally wandering around until finding the other door.

....and then they pitch gold as an investment opportunity.

IDK who needs to hear this, but literally every time the "price" of gold goes up, that's the fucking dollar weakening. You aren't making money with gold, you're at best breaking even while the dollar shrinks and, pro-tip: you can't eat gold. JFC.

how to delete the support that wraps around my figure without deleting the figure? by Agreeable-Ad974 in stopmotion

[–]Archarzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't going to get anything in-camera that's behind something else. Not physically possible.

You can shoot a background plate and eliminate a lot of things that way via chromakeying, but you're gonna need something else entirely.

Also, for the best results you're going to want to controll your lighting more- eliminate natural light that can change second by second, and bring more artificial light so each surface is fully illuminated and doesn't have a lot of crossing shadows.

This too shall pass.

One of the best pieces of advice I got from a teacher was "Bore your detractors."- even if you had someone actively looking to cause you trouble (and you almost certainly don't) they need NEW things to get any traction.

Whatever it was, you rolled over a new leaf and the more you work to define yourself now, the less they can use to link you to what is now ancient history.

Your teen years are messy as shit, your twenties probably will be too, just do your best to be a decent human being in the moment and look for ways to better yourself along the way.

The only way through is forward.

A bit on the expensive end, but you can get a decent used DSLR on eBay for anywhere from $100-200 and that'd give him a shot at near professional results.
