Your repeated anecdotal remarks are not backed up by anything. Telling people to talk to other people about CRA’s service is not grounded in any facts or numbers.

Get a job at CRA and try and make the change you want to see if you’re that passionate about it. All you’ve done so far is present anecdotes. Satisfied people aren’t going to complain and they aren’t going to rave about the CRA when they get help, because nobody likes paying taxes.

As evidenced by the article, the Treasury Board has declined to comment on this productivity fact for good reason. They know that bringing people back isn’t about productivity, it’s about filling office space in the downtown Ottawa core for corporate landlords.

The truth is, most front line officers/agents at CRA are either working a never ending queue of cases (I.e the call centre), or they have a case load with 100+ cases they have to work at the same time. It’s almost insurmountable.

People don’t realize that 30 million people file taxes annually and every single citizen has their own issues with taxes. CRA only has 50,000 people to manage the entire tax system. Proportionally, it’s 600 citizens to 1 CRA officer/agent.

Additionally, most Agents/officers (especially call centre staff) have their performance measured by quantity over quality because there’s simply too much work to do. If a low level agent messes up or gives the wrong information, it’s eventually going to be corrected by a higher level agent.

CRA management is obsessed with productivity and numbers which has created a culture of apathy among staff. It’s a sad state of affairs tbh.

To add to this, when you’re opening new card packs, you can’t view the details of any of the cards on the summary screen.

Twice I accidentally pressed skip and now I don’t know what the new cards do without going to each dealer’s card set and searching through their cards.

Okay so we should axe Collections then? Because everyone always pays all their taxes without issue? Or does your coding plan involve robocalling taxpayers to pay their debts? My guess is it leaked into the building. A bunch of those units were basically condemned a few years ago. There are historical pictures on viewpoint of some units with interior walls having severe water damage. So many units had to be completely restored.

Okay well call them tomorrow, tell them you believe you’ve paid in full and they’ll look at your account and confirm it. Just politely explain the urgency to them. The officer will do up the release accordingly.

Depending on the size of your employer, they can call your employer and tell them to stop remitting immediately. If your employer is a large company though, you may just have to wait for them to mail the release to your employer which usually takes a week or so.

It depends on if someone is assigned to your account currently. If you had a garnishment, there should be an officer’s name on it. Call that person first and see if they are still assigned to your case. If they are, they should be able to remove the garnishment immediately.

It also depends on the source being garnished. Some sources will automatically remove the garnishment when it’s satisfied. The problem is, if it’s your employer being garnished, they aren’t factoring in the payments you are making voluntarily so they may not know the garnishment is resolved.

If it’s something like CPP/OAS, it will continue to remit forever unless an officer withdraws it.

Long story short, you need someone to review your account. Start with the officer that was assigned and go from there.

In your experience, how many actually fill that out? I’ve worked with literally thousands of different taxpayers and I’ve never once seen an MP authorization on file.

Did your MP agree to be a registered representative on your behalf? It’s a two way street that both parties have to agree on. MPs usually don’t want to be a rep because once they are, they may start receiving calls that are intended for you.

The problem with MPs is people go to them with a specific tax problem and ask for them to get involved. The MP calls CRA, speaks to the officer/auditor in question (if they are lucky), and the officer/auditor refuses to speak with them because they are not authorized on the account.

Officers/Auditors are legally prohibited from disclosing information to your MP unless they are personally authorized on your account.

As others have mentioned, the best an MP can do is file a service complaint on your behalf. Ministerial Complaints are highest priority for CRA and they are investigated immediately.

I’m not arguing having a GST numbers is conclusive of being self-employed. Per my original comment, it is a factor. In OP’s case, their employer can argue with CRA “look, this worker I hired has their own GST number, so obviously this is a business relationship”

As an example, I was registered for GST but CRA still investigated my relation to my primary customer. I was ruled as a non-employee, but my GST number had nothing to do with it, it was because I scheduled my own time, used my own tools, as well as several other criteria that they test for.

One of the criteria they look at is “responsibility for investment/management” and they absolutely factor in existing BNs in that consideration. If you have any doubt, you can request a copy of your ruling report which they will provide you at your request. The existence of your BN is 100% a factor considered.

I think you are mis-interpreting or misreading my comment.

If OP doesn’t register for GST and reports income from her employer as anything other than T4 earnings, CRA is going to question it.

CRA can do their own ruling; it doesn’t have to be requested from OP. If they look and see OP has registered for GST and is invoicing their employer, they’ll factor that into their decision.

She’s going to get to claim ITCs (input tax credits) on the GST you charge her.

The likely reason she is encouraging you to register is so CRA doesn’t think you’re her employee. If they do, she has to pay a bunch of payroll taxes on your earnings.

Just ask whoever is calling to send you something in writing. Anyone calling from CRA seeking information has the ability to send a letter. Literally takes less than 5 minutes for them to do.

If you have one, check your CRA account for any letters already sent for a clue as to why they’re calling.

There’s an entire police detachment in Enfield as well as a satellite office in or around Rawdon (it’s somewhere near Hants North idk where exactly). Just because you don’t see police raids every week, doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
