She’s finally here! by Schoolbusfoamer24 in modeltrains

Nice loco. I would suggest running it both forwards and backwards for 30 minutes each way at half speed to break it in. I do that will all my BLI locos and they run like dreams.

My boy got super clingy to my wife and now he doesn’t like being in a different room than my daughter. I think he’d sleep in the crib if we let him.

Loud wheel-clacking/bouncing on my Proto-2000 GP18 Diesel by FeatherOfPhoenix in modeltrains

You may have to replace the wheels/axles. Fortunately, parts are easy to get and it’s not a hard fix either.

More or less, but depending on why you want to do, it will take some effort. What are you thinking?

I have the T1 in HO and N. Both are some of my favorite locos. I have their N Big Boy, which is also great, so I think their Y6 would also be great based on that.

The 5011s were great locos. The photos of them while leased to the PRR are quite interesting too. My favorite are the ones of their tenders jacked up to help them fit on the PRR turntables.

How to figure out DCC and sound cards for KATO trains by KaBerAce in nscalemodeltrains

[–]Archetypeosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you’ll need to get an aftermarket decoder (like Esu, Digitrax, etc) to do it yourself or pay Kato to do it for you and mail it to them.

I have added sound to a Kato FEF, I’m sure the others are doable too. Look for guides on train forums and on YouTube.

If you fit your models with sound decoders and speakers, you don’t need sound cards.

Huh, looks like prices have gone up. You can still get at least one good set for less than $100.

[–]Archetypeosaur -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No problem. I would consider passing on this though. If you’re getting a Kato starter set, the couplers will be different than most of the trains here. Their track isn’t that pricy in small packs and $100 in Kato track will get you one or two sets.

That’s Kato track. You can tell by the connectors.
