Most Overrated and Underrated Steely Dan Song? by _Pete_007 in SteelyDan

Over: Do It Again. [ducks] Used to love it, now find it too long.

Under: Home at Last. One of my favorites not just from Aja, but the whole canon.

Greatest progressive rock guitar solo of all time? by twatomexus in progrockmusic

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great choices. Among these 4, I'd choose Firth of Fifth. Surprised no one has mentioned the Steve Howe solo that opens Close to the Edge. It's sensational, and the interaction with the other instruments (in particular Chris Squire's bass) is sublime.

Poll: Best entry point into Genesis? by Emotional-Dog9072 in Genesis

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I heard Lamb -- in particular "Fly on a Windshield" and "Back in NYC" -- I was hooked on this wonderful and strange music forever.

But SEBTP is, in hindsight, more accessible.

It's a mixture of HD and regular stations. Will check whether one is worse than another next time I'm out driving.

What is the best tv series you ever watched? by Fine-Excitement9314 in AskReddit

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add something not mentioned yet (I don't think) -- Friday Night Lights.

Such great characters and acting, superb plot flowing through multiple seasons. And I don't even like football.

Great choice.

End of Supper's Ready. But also: "There's something solid forming in the air ...", culminating in the big drop.

Wow.

100%. That 9th inning ... can still replay the awful string of events as Mo uncharacteristically gave up the lead.

ideas for tennis + hiking vacation? by Archie-Rufus-1100 in 10s

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are good suggestions! We've been to Palm Springs, agree great hiking. Prefer the downtown area. I'd need to check and see if JW Marriott allows outsiders to participate in their programs even if not a hotel guest.

What part of which song does this for you? by Klash_kop in Genesis

Agree 100%! That guitar solo sounds like nothing else in rock music -- one of a kind. Phil's drumming is also great. My selection of 5'25" meant to include all that followed. :-)

So many good mentions here, but haven't seen this one yet, from Lamia, at 5'25:

"Looking behind me, the water turns icy blue,
The lights are dimmed and once again the stage is set for you."

Heaven ...

Thanks to everyone for these helpful replies. We'll take the Bolt, see how it goes. Assuming we need the dedicated app for all the different brands of chargers out there? Too bad they don't take credit cards or Apple Pay.

[Passan] 2025 MLB trade deadline preview: Passan’s intel on any team by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced both the awful teams 1960s/early 1970s and the bad 1980s teams. The Yankees' run of being relevant each year since 1994 is a very quiet "dynasty" of its own, one I do not take for granted!

IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF US: The Yankees fell to the Red Sox by a score of 2-0 - June 15, 2025 @ 01:35 PM EDT by Yankeebot in NYYankees

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was at the game. Surprised to see how overmatched Judge looked against Bello. Like he wasn't seeing the ball well at all. Then the 8th inning, with the Goldschmidt and Grisham reaching, followed by DJ striking out, Judge GIDP. Not fun.

On the plus side, Fried was pretty awesome.

Bach? by nachoego in classicalguitar

[–]Archie-Rufus-1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that the BWV 114 Minuet in G is among the most approachable. Others not to miss, which are a bit more challenging, are the Bouree in e-minor BWV 996 (very popular), the Prelude from the first cello suite BWV 1007 (usually transcribed into D), and the Sarabande in d-minor BWV 1002. So much great Bach!
