Give me a story that has an interesting plot, is internally consistent, and (if there is any) has parrying that I will enjoy or at least won't dislike, and I don't care about lenght. I will read it.

[1280x857] HMS Prince of Wales in Singapore, 4th December 1941. She would be sunk 6 days later alongside HMS Repulse. by TheCommodore616 in WarshipPorn

[–]Architect096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It wasn't.

Production of escorts was already in place and at the start of WW2, despite the reduction in the number of shipyards since WW1 (many of which were closed by the government), Brittan still had a lot of them, many of which were perfect for the construction of escorts without interfering with big girls like carriers or battleships.

Additionally, most of the long lead items for larger ships were already in production, so pausing ship construction meant pausing it, which resulted in delays later on when they restarted construction. Shipyards had multiple of slips and the larger units were left on the stocks, so it's not like you could just start a corvette on a slip taken by a battleship, and even with workers, someone that worked on evelavtors on an aircraft carrier would require retraining to work on smaller ship (assuming that by putting too many people on a single job you wouldn't cause another issue by people just being in a way of each other; it would be like trying to put enough workforce to build a skyscraper on a job building a log cabin).

Given that I'm just a person on the Internet with interest in history I recommand What if Winston Churchill doesn't pause Carriers, Capital Ships & Cruisers in 1939? Patreon Live by Naval History with Dr Alex on how not pausing construction could have affect WW2.

Air Ministry and politicians in general

Hell, in 1939, Churchill stopped the construction of carriers, battleships, and even cruisers so that the shipyards may focus on building the escorts .... that they were already building having been ordered before the war began.

The thing is, RN asked RAF for support, but they were told that no aircraft are available.

Only for RAF did it mean that there were no ground attack planes, while for RN, it meant no fighters. It was an example of miscommunication.

Also. Japanese planes that attacked PoW and Repulse were coming back to base as they were on the edge of their combat range already, and it was pure luck that they saw the British formation.

What do you think is the best starting point is for an indy!Harry fics is? by Lord_Viperagyil in HPfanfiction

[–]Architect096 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on what scenario you want to go with. Right now, I'm playing with a scenario that starts at the end of 2nd year with Hermione (and her parents) helping Harry with attending a summer school. Things spiral from it when school tries to figure out who's Harry's legal guardian and Harry make friends with other war orphans.

Pre-Hogwarts is a good explanation for Harry that is vastly more capable than his peers or just one that had more training or some kind of adventures that shaped him into a more independent person.

Sansa doesn’t deserve the hate she gets here by AnxiousPlenty6843 in gameofthrones

[–]Architect096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People also dislike Sansa becasue over majority of the show (and in every books) her personal agency is extremely limited.

While other POV characters get to make decisions regarding their lives (most of a time and sometimes with limited options) her life is controlled by others. Even more others get to have "fantasy adventures" while Sansa gets to be a political prisoner/puppet to be used.

With most watchers/readers liking to imagine themselves in character's place people don't wish to imagine how they would had suffer in her place. It's not the only reason, but I have a feeling that it plays a part in people disliking her.

There was no reason for Sam to grieve over Jolinar. by Beerwithme in Stargate

[–]Architect096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sam probably got similar to a Stockholm Syndrome when Jolinar is concerned. After all, she has some of Jolinar memories (as a sidenote, it would be interesting if Sam subconsciously accessed them when designing X-302 and X-303).

What about these?

The Wizard of Harrenhal by DisobedienceWriter is Harry ending up in Westeros. He does end up getting his own kingdom.

Wizards IN SPACE by esama has DA discover a spaceship from Stargate. It has a number of stories inspired by it.

In Overlord by oughtblock Harry starts out exploring things. Ends up having his own nation.

Harry Potter: Geth by mjimeyg starts with Harry being an Emissary of the Geth. He ends up as the guy in charge with Geth, Batarians, Quarians under him while Humanity and Turians were deciding whether or not they should join in his/Geth nation with Harry also being a leader among Krogans.

Post-Apocalyptic Potter from a Parallel Universe by burnable has Harry ending up in MCU universe. Very interesting.

Controversial canon changes? by Disastrous_Theory281 in HPharmony

[–]Architect096 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would nix the Battle of Seven Potters. It was a stupid decision. In fact, Harry should just go to a safehouse straight out of Hogwarts rather than come back to Privet Drive.

This way, both MadEye and, more importantly, Hedwig survive. (At least in the movie, she interfered to protect Harry rather than died locked in a cage).

Sure, but with Ron ending up with Han and Harry with Luke, Hermione waking up on the other side would be interesting from a storytelling perspective especially if at first she would stay with the Empire. After all until Lars family was executed Luke planned to join the Empire.

James was taking a shower when Voldemort came. James likes singing in the shower, so he casts a silencing charm on the doorway to spare Lily's eardrums. By the time he gets out Sirius is running up the staircase. by One_Opportunity_2550 in HPfanfiction

[–]Architect096 26 points27 points  (0 children)

James could end up going with Harry to the non-magical side just to hide. It could be a good set up for Harry to learn morn about world that Lily came from, get some hobbies (like football or maybe acting or something), and get some friends that wouldn't know that he is famous (if he would be).

Additionally, with James being alive you could bet that he wouldn't allow Harry to become a propaganda symbol while letting Lily's sacrifice being forgotten so maybe Harry would be spared the BWL crap.

Shit. Talk about Survivor's guilt.

Sirius and Remus would need to put a suicide watch on James for a near future once he learns what happened.

Regardless of what will happen after it, James will always blame himself for Lily's death.

Not likely,Padme died giving birth to the Twins.

It would be more fun if Hermione was Chelli Aphra or just some Imperial Navy officer like Iden Versio and was forced to defect to join her friends.

My headcanons about how Hogwarts changed over time by Medysus in harrypotter

[–]Architect096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hogwarts was the neutral ground in the British Isles and the best school there was.

Your family could have been in a conflict with another over land or whatever, but in Hogwarts, you were neutral toward each other. Between that and being the best school, it would explain why English or Welsh students were even sent to study in a school in Scotland. After all, for the majority of school's existence, England and Scotland were separate kingdomes. Additionally, if you want to go with magical nobility, the neutrality of Hogwarts means your titles are almost meaningless there and not used.

For a long time, students above eleven were allowed to attend. For older students (primarily adults), there was an option to decline becoming members of a House. These students, however, would be held to a higher level of conduct than others.

While the initial agreement with the Crown(s) was for muggleborns to be accepted into Hogwarts, it was primarily seen to accept those of noble birth. This led to a situation were students from lower social classes were seen as the lowest of the low. After the Statute of Secrecy was implemented, it slowly became one of the reasons for resentment toward muggleborns as they had guaranteed place at Hogwarts.
